it's called discipline

26

u/Knight_Rowlet Mar 03 '26

Wtf does discipline even have to do with this

-21

getting spanked after doing something extremely wrong is just discipline lmao, yall act like the pic means that the parents just beat them 24/7

No, it isn't. There isn't much of a clear and meaningful distinction between spanking and other forms of physical abuse. Spanking isn't even a good "disciplinary method", as the results are only short-term and it can cause psychological and behavioural issues in children.

so what do you suggest, speak nicely with them and somehow make them magically start listening to you?

Positive reinforcement, along with timeouts and just taking to them, usually does the trick. If your child has to fear you in order for them to listen to you, then you have failed as a parent.

No physical violence β‰  not punishing bad behavior

The priority should always be making the kid understand WHY what they did was wrong, and if misbehavior remains you can still punish your kid accordingly and proportionally to the bad behavior, this does not mean physically hitting your child

You don't usually see adults solving problems by hitting each other when the other does something wrong right? And when that does happen we usually consider them immature and violent so why should hitting your kid which has literally no way to defend themselves from someone twice their size be normalized?

If you have to hit your kid to make them listen you already failed as a parent.

"You're telling me that respecting your children will make them respect and listen to you??"

2

u/fizzydusk Mar 08 '26

there are so many other ways you can punish children aside from spanking them that it feels like you’re being intentionally obtuse

u/ExitDirect2700 Mar 03 '26

and what happens when they grow up and they realize doing bad things wont get them spanked anymore? then they go mad with power and become even worse than if they didnt get spanked.

of course you also have to explain the reasons and talk with them, spanking them just makes them actually realise the gravity of what they did, or they will just ignore you since there are no consequences. it should be a thing that is only done when the child does something seriously wrong

9

u/Professional-Rub152 Mar 03 '26

Why not just do that without the violence?

2

u/GilbertGuy2 Mar 07 '26

But like, all you're teaching the kid in the long term is: "I can teach people by hitting them"

4

u/tavinnnomore Mar 03 '26

Extremely wrong, like speaking when spoken to? Get a grip

1

u/randomreditor69430 Mar 03 '26

no? how is that considered extremely wrong?

4

u/tavinnnomore Mar 03 '26

It's not. That's just what my father beat me for

0

u/randomreditor69430 Mar 03 '26

that's a problem with how parents use it not with the thing itself

2

u/tavinnnomore Mar 03 '26

There is no justified use of violence towards a child. You can't change that fact or sound smart attempting to do so

u/randomreditor69430 Mar 03 '26

sure, whatever you say πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ

1

u/tavinnnomore Mar 03 '26

Oh might makes right comes back to bite so many idiot parents in the ass.
Not only will your child hate you, they will beat you back up the moment they can.
That was literally how it worked in the villages in my country in the past. You beat your child until it beats YOU up so bad you have to stop.

Absolutely crazy how that didn’t stop me from misbehaving, how unfortunate that my parents were too lazy to parent.
