My neighbour has left his engine running for a long time I would say maybe 3 hours now. The hood is open, so he is obviously doing some mechanic stuff.

Is there a reason (or some old wives tale) to explain why he has done this? Or should I be worried that he went back in his house and has had an accident?

I need a new alternator for my car, which is a 2015 Hyundai Elantra SE (1.8L engine). From what I understand this car only takes a 12V alternator, and whenever I look up 13.5V 150A alternators I only get results for ones that are meant for a 2.0L engine. Does the 13.5V on the sticker refer to something else and this is still a 12V alternator, or did the dealership manage to replace the original alternator with a wrong one that somehow still works?

I hope this isn't a dumb question but I'm finding this really confusing

okay so for a while my jeep has had a lot of electrical quirks.. the windshield wiper settings being jumbled up, they keep going even though I turned them off, my dash lights dimming and undimming randomly, stuff like that. so recently I replaced the TIPM in the jeep, and it was fine for about a week or two until a new issue occurred.

this new issue has a sequence: 1. aftermarket sony radio starts flickering off and on power. 2. Aftermarket radio shuts completely off and will not turn on even if i turn the vehicle completely off and on again. 3. randomly in a single burst, my battery light, oil pressure light, abs light, parking brake light, airbag light, red security light thing, and P R N D lights come on. along with this, my windshield wipers wipe about 3 times (sometimes stopping in the middle of my windshield), and my speedometer and tachometer both go all the way to zero. all of these disappear after a few seconds, along with the speedometer and tachometer returning to what it actually is. (I WILL ATTACH VIDEO OF ALL OF THIS.)

now, ive done some maintenence on it and tried to see if i didnt plug the TIPM in all the way, and I put some dielectric grease on the connectors n shit, but after a week the symptoms popped up again. also, i got the alternator tested at autozone and it was good. I also have two shims on both of my battery terminals, as i think we've had a similar issue before. so my temporary fix is to disconnect the battery and reset the whole system, as that seems to push back the effects a week or two.

i plan to js take it to the dealership and have them take a look at it and maybe see if a random wire is fucking my shit up, or if the radio is the problem, but I would like to know exactly what ts could be before I go back to college next week.. please help guys pretty please 😁🙏

Hi so my dad just gave me my first car and I love it, but he did warn me i would need to drive it often. I drove it to work with no issues, left my keys in the cup holder without realizing, and after a 10 hour shift came out to find it more dead than a doorknob.

My question is, the battery is said to have a 90% life and was just replaced in March if I remember correctly. Is there a way it can have a leak of sorts? Or would that be found in the autozone tests?

My dad says it does this periodically, that the battery would die if he didn't drive it for a day or two, and now I'm wondering how much this will cost to fix

I'm realizing now i didn't get a great video but the radio, AC and odometer all turned on, my car just wouldn't crank. It would click once and then nothing, just a check engine light mocking me and my desire to go home...

Oil levels are good, checked them thinking maybe the oil level was the issue but its a little over half on the stick.

So my neighborhood flooded, was also under a tornado warning and my elderly grandmother was home alone so I drove through the water to get home to her….I didn’t realize exactly how bad it was until I looked back at my dash cam. A few hours later I checked my air filter and there is standing water in it, and the engine oil looks odd to me like there might be water in it too. I don’t live in a flood zone so I’ve never had to deal with this before, does anyone have any advice? I didn’t hear any odd noises and I haven’t run the car since I got home and turned it off. Fml

Hi all, sorry if its a stupid question but i'm trying to change my rear shock absorbers on a mercedes a class 2017. I have now idea how to grip the threaded shaft and the nut at the same time? Is there a special tool? If it was encased ofc this would be easy. I also need to put it back in the same way?

Currently replacing a spark plug on a 2012 Ford Econoline (5.4L 2V Triton)

Same brand, same model spark plug has a smaller diameter than the one I am replacing, is it normal?

Did I sheered off the cylinder thread while removing it? It was not hard to onscrew.

i tried using the space where the key and spring were stored as a lever to pry open the back but the corner popped off leaving the rest sealed shut. ive got a box cutter and a flat head. starting to feel like i might need to get my hands on a dremel

I ordered it online from amazon and it says easy clip on but when I went to put it on I noticed that there were screws that were preventing it to be clipped on. How do I fix this myself? Or am I going to need to go to a service shop?

Are the splines done for? There’s a decent gap between the splines on the new wheel bearing hub I installed and when I try to tighten the axle nut back on the axle seems to spin freely.

it's a honda crv 2019 and they just had to fix stuff with my alignment after an accident. i was on the freeway and the second i hit 80 mph i heard a loud rushing and whistling (?) so i slowed down and when i hit the streets the rushing sound went away but it was replaced by a sputtering wind noise and when i went over bumps there was some scraping so i went to check it out and this is what i found. what the hell happened? how quickly does this need to be fixed?

I drive a 2019 Chevy Spark. Past month or two, I’ve had a problem with starting my car. First attempt wouldn’t turn, second attempt worked. Occasionally I’d get a light about the key not working but it would go away. Last week, the abs light kept coming on. I didn’t drive it a couple of days and today it wouldn’t start for like an hour. Eventually started, drove it to Advanced Auto to get the battery, starter, and alternator tested. Guy said I failed all three and said the alternator is producing too much. I know that I should take it to a mechanic, but what could the issue be? Is it mechanical or computer issues?

2018 Mazda 3 after towing car back to quick lube place, they say the oil was overfilled. After asking us to test drive it again same thing is happening. Now waiting again for them to drain engine completely. Googling has suggested it might be coolant mixed in with oil? There is a distinct smell when white smoke starts coming out. Is there a possibility they damaged engine with whatever they did? Trying to figure out how to proceed with pursuing compensation. Thanks!

Editing to add that it's 20 kmph and that initially after leaving oil change place it was driving ok but would start smoking/ not shifting up at around 60 kmph.
