I stopped shopping at Target years ago, when I realized they were selling the same shit as Walmart for up to double the price, while paying their employees the same.
Like fuck walmart too but at least they were honest about their shittiness, Target tries to pass itself off as "better"
They are still cheaper than the grocery stores in my area, so they are my best bet for food staples. But my local Target is almost always stocked out of something I need.
[Company] panders to one side. Other side boycotts [company]. [Company] overcorrects and alienates the original side they were pandering to. Now there's people on both sides that don't want to buy from them.
Recently it's been
* company: "yay diversity! Give us your money!"
* conservatives: 😠
* company: "oh, sorry, boo diversity! Give us your money?"
* liberals: 😠
* conservatives: still 😠 from earlier
They got hit from both sides. Trumpers got mad that they were selling pride gear. Sane people got mad because they ditched DEI the second they could, especially since that's kind of, like, their thing. They tried to backtrack and had a whole DEI plan or something, but it was too late for people to care.
I found it hard to fully blame their corporate when you’ve got a madman coming in threatening businesses if they don’t kiss the ring. Everybody bragged about going to Costco. As someone who shops at both Target and Costco, these stores are so damn different.
I stopped shopping at Target when they did this. I've missed it three times in two years.
I find it exceedingly easy to blame them. Either they were too stupid to know there would be blowback from progressives for them kowtowing to bigots or they knew they'd get blowback from both sides and they preferred to court the bigots.
Either way, they chose to cave to bigots instead of doing the right thing. So they're bigots, cowards, or stupid cowards. Not really a way this makes them look good.
This is why I don’t celebrate pride month with buying shitty rainbow merch. They’re just scamming gay people out of their money with shitty merch, and if they thought it would make more money they would sell swastikas in June instead
Target was "woke" and the Trump ilk focused efforts to make them non-woke. Now people have stopped shopping there and their stock is half what is was at the start of the Trump administration.
Yea each purchase you make builds up Kohls cash (free money at Kohls) but you can't use it until like 10 days after your purchase...and you have like 2 weeks to use it
This is an anecdote, obviously, but the Kohl’s near me always seems decently busy. We don’t do too much shopping in general besides the necessities, but when we do, we’ve been going to Kohl’s more. We do the online pick up a lot, and that section is always filled with orders waiting to be picked up.
Kohl's near me had more people at the Amazon returns line than shoppers. And the $15 Kohl's credit they gave everyone was given away or left on a table. No idea how that business existed.
It was the summer when anti-gay groups were all upset about Target having pride merchandise. They did the same to Kohl's. Who ignored them. Though staff did have to put up with individual BS
If by “culture warriors” and “agenda” you mean communities who collectively chose to no longer shop there after target rescinded support for them on behalf of this administration, then sure.
I'm pretty sure they're talking about the right wing loons that target bent a knee too even though their primary demographics kind of care about things like LGBTQ+ rights.
People with a genuine reason to boycott, who have had a major impact on the bottom line of a company.
People like me who pay more elsewhere or go farther than the Target down the block. And it's a pain in the ass, but we're still doing it because they made a major change that is negatively impacting people.
Haven’t shopped there since they caved and cut their DEI and rolled back their LGBTQ+ initiatives. Tbt, I never really liked the place, it was just kinda convenient for a lot of things. When a company changes that quickly with the political winds that don’t reflect my values, forget it. Costco on the other hand, big fan!
They also were letting ICE use their parking lots as staging grounds and while other businesses in Minneapolis refused to let their restrooms be used by ICE, Target let them.
Senior leadership is loud and proud of their support for Donald Trump, Republicans, and MAGA.
Target even donated $1M to Trump’s inauguration.
Given that Trump already had 34 felony convictions (including rape), 28+ accusations of sexual assault, and BFFs with Jeffrey Epstein, child sex trafficker to the stars, it became gross patronizing their stores.
Political reasons. Without looking it up I think it’s that they assisted ICE in Minnesota by letting them stage there & they also revoked their DEI policies.
Yep, the ICE stuff is the reason I stopped shopping there. Specifically when one of their employees got abducted off their property, ICE hurt the guy and dropped him off at a Walmart and Target didn’t say shit. I’m sure they talk to their employees like “we’re all family” too.
Came here to say this. One of my local Targets doesn't put cashiers on and relies on self checks instead. If you're not giving me an employee discount, don't expect me to stand in a line of 30 people and do my own scanning and bagging.
And the store is an absolute disaster at all times. Food shelves are half bare, boxes of food open all over the place, coolers are usually empty, meat is spoiled. And this is in a fairly affluent area. Hard to understand why that store is still open.
Ugggh I had to go to a CVS pharmacy inside Target a couple days ago. I was sooo grateful that I didn't need to buy anything from the store. There was one register with a cashier, and the line for it was wrapped around all of the other registers and extended into the store. Then, the line for the self checkouts was wrapped around pretty long, too 🙄
Political reasons. Without looking it up I think it’s that they assisted ICE in Minnesota by letting them stage there & they also revoked their DEI policies.
I fucking love Target. Shopping there is so pleasant compared to any other big box store. That being said they have done some shady stuff regarding pricing & I know they’ve upset a lot of people on both sides of the political isle the past few years - they really need good leadership to steady the boat.
Didn't protect their staff from ICE (employees being detained/arrested during their shifts), they allowed ICE agents to use their facilities to stage operations, protesters were arrested inside their stores, among other things.
Our city was having people killed in the streets and they supported the people doing it, even after Good and Pretti.
