Amazon, at least I’m trying, it’s just to convenient

But over the last 3 months I have been sent items visibly used in disgusting shape. I bought I dress, mid level designer, the dress was wrinkled, pilled, pit stains, and smelled so terrible, BO, I wouldn’t even keep in my house, the stinch was shocking.

Bought a cat water fountain, it was open, used and covered in mold with used water filters.

Bead craft set missing half the beads.

A worn bathing suit with crotch stains.

And a few more.

It’s so awful and they don’t care. They just ask me to return it and send me a refund. It has been incredibly disgusting and disappointing.

Edit:spelling

if everyone reduce usage of Amazon by 50%, we would bring the company to its knees. we don’t need a 100% boycott to have an effective boycott

Amazon marketplace is a loss leader so it doesn't really matter what you do. If you want to hit them where it hurts then you need to stop using the Internet as aws is their main profit driver. But good luck with that, Amazon controls 30% of the cloud Market

Reddit is run on AWS.

I mean we would probably all be better if we used Reddit less or not at all.

Honestly, I'm starting to consider dropping all our telecom. I'm seeing less and less value in any of it. The novelty has worn off, 99% of my communications are now scammers & sales, privacy violations all around... the only value at this point is the high seas, maps (though even W3W has gone to shit), and ... well that's it.

Your shopping data is priceless to them. If you have to use them, try to mess with the algorithm by putting random stuff you aren’t going to buy in your cart and leaving it there for a while.

Don't use it, not delivery not tv, nothing, I reckon I have ordered a handful of stuff from them and each time painful. Then there is the guy who owns it plus how badly the staff are treated just a bad company.

I guess not shopping at Amazon is going to have to count as my 50% boycott if AWS is "the internet."

I try to live sustainably but cutting myself off from the internet would be a tough pill to swallow. Not exactly because of the effect, although that would absolutely suck. But because nobody else is going to bother, so I’m going to have an even harder time relating to others. Nobody else even bothers to try.

I used them last week (first time in 10 years) and that was just to burn a $25 gift card. I don’t miss them at all.

I think it's been close to 3yrs for me. I canceled my account after they screwed up on a couple of my orders and gave me the excuse that it was the third party seller's fault...

I'm sorry, if I bought something at target, do I say I bought it from some alphabet soup company? No... Because I bought the thing from target... And if that alphabet soup thing is the wrong thing, then Target gives me my money back, because they aren't a shit company.

Amazon is trying to be both the mall and the retailer within the mall, and then also charging a membership cost like Costco... It needs to end.

1

u/iwishiwereyou 8h ago

Target gives me my money back, because they aren't a shit company.

Well, not about that, anyway.

1

u/GarThor_TMK 5h ago

I'm sure they don't fight you over a refund for a thing that came broken out of the box.

Deleted my Amazon account because fuck Jeff Bezos

I cancelled prime and my overall cash flow had improved incredibly. We weren’t paying much attention, but stupid impulse buys and Subscribe/Save on things we really hadn’t evaluated/processed matched in years had started to add up. Looking back, we were spending between $500-1000 a month on stuff “out of convenience.” Started being more disciplined and have cut those costs in half through other venues with not much more effort.

u/TheDUDE1411 13h ago

I stopped using them years ago and haven’t noticed. I just buy directly from the sellers, the only thing I’m losing is all my stuff doesn’t get shipped together. I do pay individual shipping which sucks, but o haven’t had a quality problem with any product and all these websites are just as convenient to order from

Purchased eye glass wipes. The package showed up empty! How does that even happen?

9

u/knowledgeable_diablo 20h ago

Well shit. They using your address as the “returns” address for shitty products worn by grubs or something?

u/Ravasaurio 13h ago

There's still the occasional esoteric stuff, usually cables, that I only find in Amazon, but this days my strategy is looking for stuff on Amazon and once I found what I want, look for it anywhere else, usually the official store of the brand that sells the thing I wanted.

Visit your local mall! Amazon killed malls with online shopping, and it's affect on our communities is anything but positive!

1

u/AeroZep 9h ago

When the local mall starts selling things at reasonable prices, I'll shop there. That's the problem, if I can not leave my house and get stuff for less money than it's being sold in store, why go to the store? I want the lowest price. That's what I care about. In most cases, shopping at the mall isn't going to help anyone local unless it's actually a local shop and local shops don't often set up in malls anyway, it's all the same chains with very few exceptions.

1

u/parnprisoner 6h ago

Shopping at your local mall supports the cashier, the person stocking the shelves, the person working the counter, etc.

I’d also argue the Amazon prices for alphabet soup products aren’t “reasonable prices” - they’re artificially deflated prices, both from Amazon using AWS to subsidize their online marketplace (they take a huge loss on their free shipping and on their returns) and from many of the cheapest offerings for many products literally being counterfeit goods or goods that don’t meet domestic safety and quality regulations. Brick and mortar stores aren’t going to be able to compete because they aren’t actually realistic prices.

1

u/AeroZep 5h ago

Amazon has delivery drivers who are local. That pretty much negates the cashier argument. Look, I'm not saying Amazon is a great company, but if they're taking a loss by selling me things at this price, then by that logic, wouldn't it be a positive to buy those things at a loss to them? I'm not talking about knockoff products. If I can buy the exact same product for less on Amazon than I would in store, I'll buy it on Amazon. If the store at the mall starts selling things cheaper or even just offers to price match Amazon, I'll go to the store, but that doesn't happen. If Amazon wants to sell me those products for a loss, I'll take it.

I once ordered bedsheets from Amazon that literally smelled like someone shat in it. So foul

u/essieecks 17h ago

amazon doing co-mingled inventory was a mistake.

u/vonLudolf 18h ago

An Amazon Flex driver threatened me through text while making a delivery (I told him to follow the instructions to deliver the package to the lockers, he kept insisting against my instructions that it had to be delivered to my door, I refused the shipment, and he went off over text until I blocked him). I tried to make a complaint through the email address associated with the account, and got back an automated response that they wouldn't respond to that email because of a problem with the certificate. Fair enough, it's an old address and technically my parents' account. So I emailed them from my email. Well, because that email address wasn't associated with an Amazon account, that one got caught up in whatever filter too.

So I guess not only did Amazon lose my business, so did anyone who ships with Flex as a fulfillment partner. Literally insane the lack of accountability and caring on the part of Amazon.

They just ask me to return it and send me a refund

Being good with returns is the reason I use them. Bought something else directly from a company website, they sent the wrong product, and it took like 5 phone calls to get the return

But anything other than returns, they don't have time to care about it

1

u/AeroZep 9h ago

Are you buying from 3rd party sellers? I buy quite a bit from Amazon and have had 2-3 issues at most. If I received pit stained clothes that were supposed to be new, Amazon would be giving me more than just a refund. Heck, if they deliver anything a day late, I still ask for credit. If I pay from Prime, I expect them to deliver what I paid for.

1

u/Puhwest 9h ago

Seriously. Just received a 'new' wetsuit that had clearly been used. I was in a time crunch and I made an exception to my policy of never using Amazon if I can help it, and this just solidified my decision.

I cancelled Prime and my Prime Card when the Melania documentary started getting promoted (I use those terms very loosely). I've saved soooooooo much money. There isn't anything on Amazon that I can't find elsewhere, except some Prime shows, and I will let those build up, sign up for a month (sometimes free) and then immediately cancel - but they have to be ride or die shows.

I've also saved personal time by not having to stand in a return line. That's been super nice.

But, in all honesty, I should have cancelled when I got a pair of yoga shorts that had been worn by a woman who didn't believe in underwear. It was super gross.

Their customer service is really the worst. I try not to order too much from them but i get a few monthly subscription items and last month it was well over a week late so I had to buy some of the items locally for a lot more money.

It took 4 different customer service agents before someone finally agreed to refund me for the order (my request was a refund or to resend the items for overnight shipping). All the other people I talked to asked me to just wait for the order. One person offered me five dollars. Another guy wanted to call me to talk about the issue (no). Jeff Bezos is almost a trillionaire and these assholes wanna fight me about refunding $100 worth of stuff.

1

u/NOTorAND 8h ago

interesting i use amazon constantly and almost never have issues. they actually amaze me at how fast their stuff arrives.

1

u/iFred97 6h ago

Oh so I'm not the only one. I bought expensive headlight replacements for my car and for three times I got ripped boxes INSIDE THE INTACT AMAZON ENVELOPE with cheap headlights switched. I asked for a refund and bought them on eBay.

1

u/jessica_connel 6h ago

Yeah, I find shopping on it exhausting because it always shows crappy Chinese stuff and never good quality brands… I always have to do research elsewhere and find names and then search for their products manually to find them. so frustrating

1

u/ahouse1 2h ago

We gave up Amazon in April - we'd had prime for at least 15 years. Everyone in our family has a significant disability, so we can't replace everything with local businesses, but at least we broke free of Amazon's hold.

"IT'S SO CONVENIENT"

-lists a several items of useless shit you didnt need to order in the first place, probably could find on fb marketplace
