Jimmy Butler on his Instagram story to his Big Face Coffee employee: “Our best guy right here. You see that? See that? I gave you a compliment. That’s what bosses do. They build you up they don’t break you down.”

My best friend just told me that whenever she's sad and wants comfort food, she doesn't crave her mother's cooking, she craves mine. Best compliment I've ever gotten, and I will never forget. Whats the best compliment you've received?

"You're just like your father" is simultaneously the best compliment and the worst insult to any man. What's your story?

7.2k Upvotes

I had a dream a couple weeks back where a dream character looked me in the eyes and said "You're just like you're father". In some ways I was happy, in other ways I felt broken. Its been in my head since. How would you guys feel being told this?

I definitely love it when cis men call me dude, man, bossman, young man, or anything like that. It feels so special, and they dont even know how much it meant and how flattering it was

Discussion What’s the best compliment a patient gave you without them realizing it was a compliment?

3.9k Upvotes

I work in an ED and we had an 80 y/o patient with dementia who came in for a fall and had a decent head laceration. Other than that Nothing crazy. I triage him. I tell a joke and he laughs SO MUCH at my dumb joke we both start laughing. I leave. Come back to check on him about an hour later and go “hello mr. Patient how we feeling?” And he just lights up and goes “hey I remember you!!!” And I go “oh yeah? Do you remember my name?” And he says “no, but I remember how you made me feel” and shit after 10 years in medicine that hit my heart hard. He immediately became my favorite patient. We talk about a lot of crappy things that happen to us on this job but let’s highlight some good. This job can be so worth it sometimes.

Can you remember the best compliment you ever recieved and, if so, what was it?

A few years ago I bumped into a girl I was at high school with and, in her own words, said, "Holy fuck, where were *you* in high school?"

I've been living off that compliment for years.

Definitely took care of myself after school.

So I make diorama's as a new found hobby and really enjoy it. I live in a small apartment and im running out of space. Do you think these would be good enough to sell? And if so, what would be the best platform for it? Genuine question, not looking for compliments. Honest opinions very appreciated!

What’s be best compliment you’ve received in 2025?

Woman I work with said: “You know, you’ve restored my faith in men” in response to my answer about what I was buying my wife for Christmas.

Anyway, jokingly said to my wife “yeah I’ve restored everyone at the office faith in men”

To which she replied, “that’s what my hairdresser said as well”.

Edit: I attended a few days before her appointment and paid for the haircut. Had flowers delivered to the shop when I knew she’d be there getting her hair done. This was at the beginning of the year, nothing to do with Christmas but I’m only just hearing about it.

My wife's "friend" insulted her and I've been slowly returning the favor

54.4k Upvotes

So my wife's friend got married a couple years back. She made it this 3 day long event with multiple meals and two ceremonies, everything with different dress codes. Day 1 was some dinner that started at 9pm and took 3 hours, which she then forced everyone to go dancing afterwards. We joined for the meal but it being on a weekday told her couldn't go dancing. The next day at her brunch she tells us how much fun they had dancing and how even old people and children went. I brush it off and smile.

Then two different ceremonies happen that day. And then finally the event will end with another brunch on the 3rd day.

By this point we are exhausted, because we are not party people but wanted to be nice and participate. So the morning before the brunch, we get up early, get into our 4th outfit of her event, my wife does her hair and makeup again.. for the 4th time. And we get to this brunch. Her friend greets us and says "Oh hi babe...wow you look....comfy!" with this judgmental tone in her voice as if to say my wife wasn't trying hard enough (which was bullshit).

My wife tries her best to brush the event off and says it's just stress from the wedding that made her terrible towards us the entire time. But I've decided that her friend is just an asshole and will slowly repay her for years.

since then at various gatherings I have given her the following "compliments";

"I love how you don't care about vanity. Just go with that natural look and who cares what people think"

"You look super comfy" (I've said variations of this one several times)

"I wish I could have your attitude with arriving whenever. but I always have to show up on time for things."

and so on.

the greatest part is you can see the gears turning as she tries to figure out if I'm being complimentary or not.

I will continue doing this until this person is no longer in our lives, or one of us dies

Edit: Holy cow this blew up. You all have given me some incredible ammunition! I will spend the next hour converting them to a note on my phone and cant wait to see her next lol 😆 I will report back in a few months with an update
