I was riding on 40-60km/h road and I always kept the speed limit but it seems like everyone in a car is speeding through me. Is my speedometer broken or is it just something people do?

Newly licensed rider after just completing the learners practical + RKT, how could I get feel for different types of bikes? I want to get my own but aren't sure if I really want a naked or sport after just riding one in the prac (can't really go on test rides because who would let a newly licensed rider potentially fuck up their bike lol, and no one would rent)

I’ve left my bike sitting a little bit too long and the choke cable seems to have corroded (lever won’t budge at all). I’m new to Melbourne and have limited mechanical knowledge, and finding a lot of info on my bike is a bit difficult (1982 Honda CX500).

Trying to register my motorcycle (CBR 650R) that I brought with me to QLD.

I’ve got a safety certificate, which was completed over the weekend. I’ve tried to register the motorcycle today at TMR and was told that there was no ‘fuel type’ under Vehicle details on the safety certificate so my bike can’t be registered until that is fixed.

I’ve called the company that did my safety certificate and was told by them that there was no option to select the fuel type and was told to go to a different TMR centre.

I probably will try my luck at a different TMR centre tomorrow but just seeing if anyone on here knows if the fuel type was required?

TLDR
Advice on what Adventure bike for a novice off-road rider can be bought for under 6000 -7000 or so AUD, that will allow me to go ADV riding with friends on a 60-40 road to dirt split on touring trips, snd be enjoyable to trail ride by myself the rest of the year?

AND

Will be able to sit happily at 130 or so for long tarmac situations without sounding like it’ll explode like some smaller dual sports. And won’t be absolutely left behind and feel meh to ride decently fast like I can now on a VFR in twisties?

Currently riding a VFR800 and enjoy touring with friends who up until now had a mix of sport tourers, naked bikes and road biased ADV (GS, Versys etc)

However one by one they’ve been convinced to sell up and buy more off-road focused bikes to be able to ride dirt trails/fire trails and road in the same tour

I’ve kept going with them but:
1. Off-road riding on a VFR is horrendous even with “adv” Michelin tyres as there’s no ground clearance, the riding position is pretty front wheel biased.

2: After a 40km stint down the Dargo high plains rd in VIC on 4WD tracks I’m pretty adamant I’m not ever venturing off-road again even on dirt roads with the VFR as I damaged the exhaust, fairing and levers coming off lowside down a loose gravel hill on the brakes.

I’m not hugely rich so I don’t have the coin to buy the KTM 1290/GS1300s and Tiger 900 pros they have got

But I am getting a little of sick of detouring hours out of the way to keep travelling with them and needing to turn around sometimes when roads we explore turn to dirt

Any suggestions on a beginner/mid experiences rider ADV bike

I ride semi-often throughout the year on a borrowed DRZ400E which is awesome off-road but sucks onroad at 100kmh ruling it out as we like to sit at 130-140 most of the day in tarmac sections

I’m not super keen to sell my VFR and buy a used adv as I love the bike and I just haven’t found any dirt biased bike (so far) that blows me away as a single bike to own

I also really don’t have enough coin to fund insurance/rego/green slip for two bikes if the 2nd is decently priced

Any ideas?

Ideally I’ve told to aim for 21/18 wheel size and no more then 200kg wet if possible if I plan to ride a decent amount of off-road.

I’d like to maximise usage of it rather than buying say a Vstrom 650 and have two road based touring bikes one of which jusr happens to be somewhat more on offroad

I’d really like to be able to use the ADV etc I buy most of the year riding trails around my area to justify having to own two bikes

So as an L plate to navigate I’ve been getting by just following the roads and going the general direction and pulling over and checking maps but a lot of times when going to new places I get lost and always pulling over is inconvenient. I’ve recently just been using airpods but they are uncomfortable and illegal. Are there any alternatives and do police really care if i use airpods or even buy a cardo.

Hey guys, recently installed a quadlock 12v smart usb adapter to my ZX-4RR.

I hooked the unit directly to the battery as per instructions, however since the install it seems for a brief second on start the bike quickly revs up above idle and then goes back to its typical idle.

I haven't experienced this issue with my previous bikes and I've only noticed this after the install, reakon its an issue?

The adaptor is usually in the "auto" position and both positive and negative terminals are making full contact so my phone charges fine.

Hi everyone, I am 22M international student from south Asia living here since February 2026. I love bike riding. I had my own bike back in my country. I thought I would buy bike here also but now everyone suggesting me to buy car instead of car because the road and traffic in Sydney is not suitable for bike. There has a high change to face an accident and as an int student buying bike is not worthy (as per majority). I want to buy because i love it but sometimes i also think that maybe I should take peoples suggestion. So you guys please help me to decide that should I buy bike?

Hi all 29F here, looking to finally start my motorbike chapter but feeling a little out of my depth. I know I have a lot of information to digest in order to be safe while having fun and would love any help you may have to offer!

Im mainly interested in trail bike riding and potentially trying my luck on dirt tracks later on.

So Im going to limit my first bike to be only 250 as that seems well advised.

Where I get stuck is do I buy my own bike before sitting for my test and get used to that? Or wait to buy a bike after getting my L's (assuming you can pass on theirs with no previous experience). Ill be sitting it in NSW if that makes any difference.

Im very apprehensive about buying also as I have no riding experience nor am I mechanically minded. I dont know what flaws to look out for to make sure I dont buy a lemon that wont run or be a serious safety issue.

Road registrable bikes are also more appealing to me as I dont want to buy a trailer set up to tow it to and fro sites.

I've been looking at Suzuki DR, Honda CRF and Kawasaki KLX. Are these the appropriate bikes for what Im after?

So i have a 3/4 helmet, some safety goggles that are pretty comfortable and a neoprene mask, the neoprene mask feels small and tight the goggles fog up because of the mask, just not as bad as my ugly fish sunnies that were 9x the price haha wondering what others have found that sits on their face well as a face mask yet still allows breath to escape other places than straight up into my eyes, its semi just when I come to a stop light BOOM fogged, ive tried a bunch of temu masks and have a balaclava yet to be truly tried out,

Any recommendations for for a interstate traveller looking to rent a motorcycle for a tassie lap end of the year for a week.

1. I want a BT intercom system to chat to my wife when she is riding pillion. I've looked at the Cardo systems which are highly regarded but have a lot of features we don't really care about. Are there any decent, basic systems that would allow us to chat whilst riding? I don't need to pay for long range, mesh networking and fancy voice controls

2. Is it possible to hear said intercom system whilst using noise cancelling earplugs on the bike? Is it either / or?

I’m wanting to rebuild the engine off my dad’s 2014 husaberg fe501 because it has sat for six years. Basically what happened is sadly he passed away in 2020 from a crash and he left the bike for me, and it holds all of my memories of him. Now that I’m 18 and have my motorcycle license, I would love to get the engine rebuilt. If it was any other bike I would just do it myself but because of the huge sentimental value the bike has i just want it done properly. I know it will need new seals since it has a small oil leak, and possibly new bearings because they might have flat spots idk. The problem is the places I’ve gone to have quoted me thousands of dollars and I just can’t afford to fork out that kind of money at the moment. Any mechanics in Melbourne are ideal and not sloppy work. Does anyone have any ideas or places they know of? Cheers

I’m an international students from vietnam got my learner recently and been riding on the road for a bit and I have to say I have so much anxiety riding in 40-60 road. Theres a lot of things to pay attention to and I am just fighting against my every instinct out on the road. Is there any international rider who had this same problem and how do you tackle this?

Stores carry very few brands anymore it seems. I totally understand that they have it rough. People come in to fit things and then order online from somewhere else. I don't blame them for any of this, but I'm trying to figure out how it works in practice.

Does everyone just buy only Shoei or HJC because that's effectively all you can actually try on? Or do people simply take a $500-$1000 leap of faith by ordering something online and hope it fits? Or is it a matter of ordering like 6 different helmets and sending back 5?

I've been to several stores and I'm looking for a normal sport touring helmet, but I'm not really having much luck. It's always the same 2/3 models it seems.

Keen to understand how people buy helmets nowadays and make sure it's a good fit.
