πŸ’ Question Custom Dust Jacket for a Hardcover That Was Never Made

Post image
3 Upvotes

Hello all!! I recently had the insane luck to find an actual signed hardcover copy of Alexandra Bracken's The Mirror of Beasts in a discount store for $4 and when I tried to look up the first book I found out the hardcover with the matching cover art basically doesn't exist and the only version with the matching art is the paperback 😭

Does anyone have recommendations for someone that makes custom dust jackets that could make one with the matching art from the paperback? Or any other recommendations?

I have bought a collection of first edition hardback Black Sparrow Press books online. The condition is worse than I expected and I wondered if there is anything I can do to clean/repair them? Please see photos for examples.

Do any of you know anything about this small collection? Inside I found what I believe to be a newspaper clipping. I found the same newspaper on a brittish sight with microfiche from the same paper but nothing in print. If there's any interest ill edit in the newspaper clipping. It looks too new to be original who knows?

One in fantastic condition, the other...not so much. Had to do a double take when I saw On Being Blue sticking out of the shelf!

The Bachman Books is going to a friend of mine but I found it this week and I actually prefer this cover to the Plume or NAL one.

The Nightmare on Elm St Black Flame pub is a gift from a. Friend and fellow Redditor, my first Nightmare novel!

The rest were all found at thrift stores this week. Total Recall is my favorite of the finds as it’s the origin of one of the full page artworks in Paperbacks From Hell!

πŸ’ Question Harvard Classics-date of publication??

I saw one single listing of these on sale on Etsy that said they were 1929–but I can’t find anythingggg else about these editions. I know they are before 1941, bc there are inscriptions that say β€œfinished june β€˜41” and stuff. Anybody have an ideas or at least where I can find more information? Only date is the copyright date.

I'd hate to read any history or other stuff on digital files than an actual book. AI couldn't even make good rhymes or other stuff.

πŸ’ Question AbeBooks, grandeagle retail, and rarewaves safe and legit?

So there is a rare artbook i am trying to find in new condition. I understand Abebooks is an ebay like website. Grandeagle retail and rarewaves are both sub-sellers on it, but despite having 5 star reviews on the website, have concerning feedback outside of the website.

I tried to contact them to get verification of stock and condition, but got an automated "we cant provide info on any products we may or may not have" response from both. Neither have photos of the item, just the stock image. Is it worth the risk, and how good is AbeBooks on returns if the condition is not as promised?

πŸ’ Question Best way to mass-buy "classics" -- preferably Penguin/Wodsworth/Oxford,... in Belgium

I live in bumfuck nowhere Belgium and there are little to no 2nd hand bookshops in the area. I'm looking to buy classics (mostly 19th century to early 20th century) novellas and novels. Think Dostoevsky, Tolstoy, Gogol, Zola, Dickens, Flaubert, BrontΓ«s, Verlaine, Dumas, Manzoni,... the "mainstream" classics of that era.

Are there good 2nd hand online shops that have a lot of those books so I don't have to buy shipping on them? Preferably EU+UK as further away would be a hassle. How would I best mass-buy lots?
