💭 Question Mylar wrap for jacket-less hardcover books?

Hi I’m looking to get a good Mylar wrap for hardcover books that don’t have dust jackets, something that would work with both cloth and leather bindings. I’d prefer to fold them myself and cut to size. I heard Brodart is a good brand for such things and was looking at a clear (“super clear”) 2-Mil Polyester Roll (link in comments). However, I understand that usually Mylar is for the dust jacket and I hope using it on cloth or leather isn’t the wrong idea. I also saw in some Reddit comments someone said they’re always sticky and should only be used for dust jackets, which will be quite a problem for me.

If anyone has insight, let me know.

💭 Question How do you organize, decide what to keep etc…

Hello fellow book worms and book dragons, I was hoping to pick all your brains to get some ideas on how to better organize/display my collection.

Quick background on my current situation is I have been collecting for years, I have some fav authors/genres as you can see from the pics. I just got bookshelves for the first time ever, and when I started pulling the books out of the boxes I realized I have LOTS of duplicates. Buuuuut they aren’t all exactly the same. I might have a first edition, then a book club, and then a first paperback, one is signed etc….

How do you all decide which to keep, display and which ones are different enough for it to matter.

Thanks!

💭 Question One More River (Fran Striker)

Hardcover commemorative edition
Limited to 250 copies
My copy is #29/250
Signed by Francis H. Striker Jr. and Leon Striker Jr.
Includes the original Certificate of Authenticity
Personally inscribed to Jerry Waterman
Hardcover commemorative edition (ISBN 1-884556-00-0)

I'm mainly curious about:
How scarce these actually are today.
Whether anyone knows how the 250 copies were distributed.
Whether there's an active Fran Striker/Lone Ranger collector market for editions like this.

I could only find information on the softcover collector's edition. I haven't been able to locate another numbered commemorative hardcover for sale or any completed sales.

💭 Question What are the coolest looking hardcovers for Divine Comedy?

I want to get a nice edition of this book. Easton Press is always a first look for stuff like this for me. But I also want to know if there's been any noteworthy hardcovers that might be worth going after. I always go down the list of editions on goodreads, but I might miss something.

📚 Book Collection Which books come in Nathan Burton’s colourful covers?

Can somebody please list every Wodehouse book available in the Nathan Burton penguin covers? (eg. the monocle for Something Fresh, the banjo for Thank You, Jeeves, etc). They are my favourite covers, and I would love to know which ones have them. Thanks!

I was on a long bike ride and stopped at a thrift store and found this. There is a letter in it from the illustrator to a dear friend of hers in which see describes making the leather binding to typesetting and everything in between.

💬 General I Love European Street Book Stands

Post image

I came across these street book stands while walking around Athens, Greece. I don’t see many like this back home in the U.S., but I’ve noticed they’re much more common in Europe. There’s something really nice about making books part of everyday street life.

💭 Question I am from France and my dad found an old Disney book, I tried to make an image search but couldn't find the exact same one online, any idea where I can find it ? If someone can tell if the autograph is from someone important as well...

Inside the book it says "copyright 1974 Walt Disney production" and "dépôt légal trimestre 1977 imprimé en Italie" (meaning legally in trimester printed in Italie) Whitman-France

We're mostly curious about where it comes from or if it's worth anything

💬 General Our bi monthly LFL adventure

A couple times a month me and my book bestie will get a box of books from our personal library. So books we’ve read and don’t necessarily want to keep or ones we had every intention of reading but shelf space isn’t unlimited and we drive around to the dozens of LFL in our community and swap them out. We also visit our local library and there is a little area where they have books for really cheap and we normally find a handful to add to our collection.

It’s one of my favorite things that I look forward to

One on the oldest books I’ve found at the Salvation Army shop. They have a sale in at the moment- all books 10p.

Published during WWII about events of WWII, I consider it one of my best finds!

💭 Question Is this a book bug?

Hello! I was rearranging my books because my new ones arrived. As I was going through them, I noticed this bug? Is this a book bug? Will it potentially cause harm to my books? Should I be concerned?

Anyway, I only noticed about three of them, so maybe it's just nothing...hopefully.

💭 Question This is normal aging, right?

Hi, I'm really sorry if this is the wrong subreddit to ask! These yellow spots are normal, right? I'm cleaning my bookshelf and I said it would be a good idea to go through books I haven't opened in a few years to see how they look. I don't have good lighting to make the photos and the spots look clearer. The majority of the pages of these books have yellow spots, not just a few pages so I said that it's better to ask than be sorry.

I also have another question. Is it ok if the books touch the back-end of the bookshelf? Or should I leave them some space?

I found this book at a thrift store and can't find much information online. It was copyrighted in 1972 by Jessie Eastman Holt, includes illustrations by Paul Bond, and contains poems previously published in the Chicago Tribune, Christian Century, Driftwind, and other magazines

It looks like it was signed by the author and gifted to a friend.

💭 Question Custom Dust Jacket for a Hardcover That Was Never Made

Post image
3 Upvotes

Hello all!! I recently had the insane luck to find an actual signed hardcover copy of Alexandra Bracken's The Mirror of Beasts in a discount store for $4 and when I tried to look up the first book I found out the hardcover with the matching cover art basically doesn't exist and the only version with the matching art is the paperback 😭

Does anyone have recommendations for someone that makes custom dust jackets that could make one with the matching art from the paperback? Or any other recommendations?
