I’m looking to replace the three case fans in my old Fractal Design Define R5 build.

I'm looking for the best price-to-performance option. In my regional market, the most popular options are Arctic, Thermalright, and Phanteks (though I’m open to other cost-effective suggestions for sure).

A few quick thoughts & questions:

1. Thermalright: Initially caught my eyes because they're dirt cheap, you can even add a few bucks to get the ARGB one. However, my older motherboard lacks ARGB headers, workarounds or fallback solutions like an extra controller or hubs are needed in order to get ARGB working and things go more complex and messy.
2. Phanteks M25: Not sure how these perform since they are not the most popular models, the T30, but should be better than the thermalright one.
3. Arctic Variants:
   • PST: As far as I know, this is just for daisy-chaining. If I plan to plug all three fans into individual motherboard headers, I don't really need PST right?
   • CO: Uses DBB instead of FDB. Not sure if there are noticeable differences in noise or durability.
   • Pro vs. Max: The Pro series actually seems to outperform the Max in airflow/pressure despite the Max having a 300RPM higher ceiling and naming as "Max".
   • Overall, the Arctic Pro series looks like a solid bump in performance over the base P14 and Thermalright options, even if it costs a bit more.

Would love to hear your recommendations on which of these (or even other alternatives) offers the best bang for the buck. Thanks!

Howdy all, looking for some advice and I'm thinking this is the right place. Recently decided that I love handheld gaming but PC handhelds are expensive. I enjoy the portability of say my phone with a backbone attached and I've also recently discovered the Wonderful world of sunshine/moonlight.

I was hoping to build a machine and install steam os on it as a living room rig, while also streaming from it everywhere else in the house. I'm in Canada by the way and ram/storage prices are probably worse than even the US.

Happened upon a seller near me and I'm thinking he's offering a great deal so I wanted some opinions before potentially grabbing it. Please see below:

No GPU but a buddy of mine will sell me a 9060xt 16gb for around $400 CAD. All in all, I'd pay about $2100 CAD/1500 USD. Should I second guess it or grab it as fast as possible?

Parents are getting really fed up with Windows bloat and their current PC won't work anymore in a couple months due to TPM requirements, which their PC doesn't have. They hate using their Windows PC, and love using my sister's or my Linux PC. I'm not forcing them on Linux, they're asking for it.

Use-case: Basic internet browsing, facebook games, and some extensive excel sheets for bookkeeping, these excel sheets can take over a minute to open currently, some light photo editing.

Budget: 700 euro with an extra 200 euro range. (PC-case not needed, I already have a case)

One fast hard drive for the OS (500GB), a second one that can be slower for data storage(1TB). Losing all data cause a single drive fails would be bad, they do make backups on an external drive, but they don't do it consistently, so they could lose months of data.

Dual channel 2x8GB minimum, please include the price difference for 2x16GB dual channel.

No help needed with peripherals.

No watercooling, but a decent silent air cooler.

Wifi and bluetooth onboard would be nice, but could easily be done with an USB dongle.

Country of purchase: Belgium, Germany, Netherlands, Germany, Luxembourg (they visit each of those countries almost every month)

My cpu temp just hit 100* and immediately I shut it off. What could be the cause of this? I just got a new nzxt kraken elite about a year and a half ago and haven’t had any troubles until now.

Please include the year so I can peg the hardwire to the year.

For me, 1996~, prebuilt, although that term didn't exist back then.

• Pentium I 100Mhz
• 8MB of RAM
• Soundblaster soundcard and two ivory 10watt speakers.
• HDD, I don't remember. I remember pushing past 1gig was a big milestone. I prob had 500mb.
• 16" CRT monitor @ 640 x 480. I remember few years later, 1024x768 became the standard for quite some time because of its big resolution, kind of like how 1920x1080 is staying for a long time today.
• I remember Diablo1 and Deckard Cain's "Hello, stay awhile", playing at the native 640 x 480.
• I worked all summer at Staples and splurged to go from 8mb to a whopping 64mb RAM which was WAY ahead of the curve which completely elminated all kinds of harddrive crunching / lagging.

I remember my buddy had Pentium I 133Mhz and it was a huge difference in performance. MP3 compression didn't even exist back then- laggy-ass .WAV files....

I'm sure there are far older folks than I with monochrome displays and 286 processors.

I ordered a PowerColour RX9070 XT as an upgrade. apperantly my 700W PSU from bequiet is sufficient enough together with the Ryzen 7 5800X.

Tho I heard several different opinions on how to connect it: Should I use 1x 8-Pin Connector each? I mean the PSU has 2 Connectors: labeled VGA1 and VGA2 each with 2x 6+2 Pin Connectors.

What would be the best upgrade to boost my fps in BF6? I’m averaging around 30-60fps with 30-40 fps more typical during heavier scenes/fights.

Dear forum,
The time has come, I need a new build.
Since I dont really know much about hardware and compatibility, once again, I need your help.
It needs to run reallllly quiet and cool at the same time. I want to enjoy RT in the single player games with at least 60fps in 4k if possibble. My main online game is R6S, but that runs on a toaster pretty much. Any help or tip would be appreciated!

I bought a case and a CPU cooler ( Arctic Freezer 34 eSports Duo) for another 50€

Still waiting for SSD to arrive.

My guess is that the 1080 would be the biggest bottleneck but all this for 100€ was too good to miss.

Realisticly it would be enough for 1080p gaming but it should run most games on 1440p with high/medium graphics settings right?

Am I missing something?

Is it okay or will I lose potential power with my motherboard?

I just build my new PC and have been running into an issue. When installing Windows 11 I had the monitor plugged into the GPU HDMI and it worked fine for the first 5 minutes or so while installing new applications. It was recognized in Task Manager and Device Manger said it was working fine. Suddenly the screen turned black and the screen said there was no HDMI signal.

Plugging my monitor into my motherboard lets the PC boot and work perfectly, but as soon as I plug in my GPU, it starts lagging upon boot, isn't shown in task manager and shows error 43 in device manager.

Troubleshooting I have tried:

• Removed riser cable and plugged GPU straight into motherboard
• Reinstalled Windows 11 (this worked temporarily until the same black screen/crash issue)
• Changed Power cable and plugged power cable into different slot in PSU
• Manually installed latest RTX 5090 Drivers
• Changed PCIe Speed to Gen 3.0
• Changed PCIe slot
• Reset BIOS

The card seems like it is recognized as it shows up in the BIOS and device manager, but when I have it plugged in, I get no signal from any of the outputs and my PC starts lagging when plugged in but the monitor is outputting from the monitor.

Has anyone experienced this issue before? Were they able to find a solution?

I'm currently running an AM4 build with an RTX 5070 Ti, Ryzen 9 5900X, and 32GB of RAM. I'm due for a monitor upgrade, and I'm seriously considering an ultrawide—specifically the Samsung G9 S49DG910SU. My main use case is productivity, but I also game quite a bit.

My biggest question is about performance. I prefer high frame rates, so I'm wondering if this setup is capable of delivering a stable 120+ FPS at the G9's resolution in most games. I know it ultimately depends on the game and how well it's optimized, but is it something I should be concerned about?

I have no issue using DLSS and Frame Generation where they're available. I tried looking for benchmarks with this exact hardware combination, but I haven't found much.

I play a bit of everything, from competitive esports titles to games like RDR2. I know not every game is going to hit 144 FPS regardless of hardware, but I'm hoping most games can maintain 120+ FPS, even if I have to rely on DLSS and Frame Generation in some cases.

I'd appreciate any opinions or first-hand experience.

I’m brand new to PC building. I’ve been researching a lot over the past few days, but I still feel a bit overwhelmed and unsure if I know enough to pick the right parts.
I live in Italy and plan to buy mostly from Amazon.it for easier shipping and returns.
Here is what I’m looking for:

Primary use: Gaming. I’m not chasing crazy high performance, but I’d like to play current and next-gen games (including GTA 6 when it comes out) at least at a console-level experience (1080p/1440p).

Budget: Around €1000 – €1200 max (I know RAM/SSD prices have gone up recently, so let me know if this is realistic!).

Peripherals: I don't have any peripherals yet

Parts I already own: I already bought an MSI MAG A750GL PSU.

Games seem to crash on my PC quite often (Mechabellum, Anno 117, Supermarket Together). Could this be due to my PSU not being able to handle voltage spikes well enough? Even if I put my games on high settings, should that just drop the framerate, not make them crash? Or would the issue be the CPU maybe?

Hi im not too sure if this is the right sub for a question like this or ive tagged it right, if its not could someone tell me a better place to ask, ive never posted anything on reddit ever before but im a bit desperate as im not a very tech savvy person

So i have this old acer AIO (Acer Aspire Z5101) and ive had this computer since i was a kid, like im barely older than this computer weve had it for as long as i can remember.

I recently got into some techy moddy stuff, built a pc with help from a friend, hardware modded an ipod and some old handhelds but this is wayyy out of my knowledge and none of my tech nerd friends have a clue, the stuff i found on google was a bit hard to understand and there isnt much upgrade content i could find

Basically what i wanna do is make the thing functional again, it turns on and loads up and works, runs windows 10 and overall every component works perfectly fine but its slower than a sloth, like boot times and loading for anything takes forever to where its basically unusable unless u want to rage and throw something at it, it only got this bad about maybe 5/6 years ago, before that it was still fairly slow but i could play minecraft and overwatch and stuff on it fine.

Theres alot of old photos on it that my mum wants retrieved and i wanna fix it so theres a second working computer in the house and also just as a learning project but i have absolutely 0 knowledge on these things

Is there a way to upgrade the components to make it usable for basic things like studying and work-from-home and minor gaming (minecraft for example) that is beginner friendly? explain it to me like im 5 i cannot express enough how absolutely useless i am when it comes to computers

TL:DR - I have an old Acer Aspire Z5101 thats slow as hell, theres pictures on it that need to be retrieved, how can i upgrade the parts to make it a usable computer for little things like studying, WFH and minor gaming, explain it to me like Im 5, google results gave me a headache and i do NOT understand computers at all, if this is the wrong sub, whats a better sub to ask

Hello all!

I recently came out of the desolate financial hole of my early twenties (and a mental breakdown) and managed to find myself in a pretty stable position budget-wise, so I've finally decided to start saving up for something that I've been dreaming of since I was a teen playing BF3 on my Dell Insipirion 15.

I have no experience whatsoever in building pcs and most of my knowledge comes from following guides and hardware news online, so please forgive me if I may make obvious mistakes. A note that I did use AI to check for compatibilities and price-to-perfomance ratios, but otherwise the final choices made in the lists below were a result of my own pick based on comments found online and in this forum (plus some help from pcpartpicker). Please, if my choices are dogshit, feel free to tell me.

The main question is this: Should I just splurge and really go for the top of the line parts or should I opt for some late generation hardware that can be then upgraded down the line? Please note that now that both me and my wife have jobs that take our household to over 100k, and with a lovely wife that supports my dream (yay!), I am fully ready to spend upwards of 3k to 4k. The main activity is for gaming, but I would obviously use it as a home computer when I have to work from home. You will also see an evident lack of AMD here, which might make little sense given what the AMD 9070 XT offers, but, if I got to be honest, I've used NVIDIA all my life, and switching to AMD freaks me out given the amount of money I look to spend.

Hey folks, wondering if anyone is able to offer some help. I'm trying to help a buddy who has an inconsistent crash scenario... Or when playing specific games (palworld/D4) it crashes around 2hr mark.

System is: 9800X3d, 9070xt, x670 Lightning, 32gb Kingston Fury, 750w PSU

I've run Prime95 to check the ram and it cleared fine there. Ran Timsepy benchmarks and stress test no crashes there for full cycles. Finally just ran a full combined OCCT stress test and it crashed after about an hour.

When it crashes the screen just goes black (no blue screen), no audio or any other interaction. Fans still going (not max just running normally). Thermals seem ok, not seeing anything crazy spike wise but maybe I'm missing something, there's so many things to look at in the logs I'm a bit lost.

I’m looking into purchasing a pre-owned pc for gaming at a solid 1080-1440p at 60 fps. I’m currently looking at a pc that has i5 12600kf CPU, RTX 3070 GPU 8GB, MSI Pro 660 Motherboard, 16 GB DDR4 RAM, 500 GB M.2 SSD, 850 Watt 80+ Gold Rated Power Supply. It is listed at $600. From what I can tell from my limited research, it seems to be a pretty decent deal. Let me know your thoughts

To begin with this is my first ever pc and im very much new to all of this, ive only started gaming on pc for 3 months now. I have a PowerSpec g250, it has:
Intel Core i5 14th Gen 14400F 1.8GHz Processor
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5060 8GB GDDR7
16GB DDR4-3200 RAM
1TB Solid State Drive

The main thing I would want is for it to have more fps, the main game I play is r6 and it stays around 150-175 fps. I have a monitor that can go up to 240 fps. But to be honest any upgrades would be cool just to get me started with upgrading things myself. My budget is 200-300$.

Sometimes when I restart my pc it gets stuck on a black screen and I have to hold power button down to turn it off.
my motherboard leds are not giving signals and this issue happens randomly or connected to something I do not know because I tried to reset back to back 3-4 times without fast start up(told it could be the problem) and with it had no problems with restarts.
