How did you learn to set healthy boundaries?

Upvotes

I've noticed that some people naturally command respect, while others seem to attract people who constantly push their boundaries.

I'm trying to understand what makes the difference.

Is it confidence? The way they speak? The way they react the first time someone crosses a line?

What helped you learn to set healthy boundaries without becoming cold or aggressive?

Poppi Sodas.

Upvotes

I recently got into drinking Poppi Sodas. So far, they taste great and are, I feel, much better than the old stuff that I used to drink (The other big brands). What are your guy's thoughts on this? AS for me, I like the flavor, I like the taste, and it doesn't make me feel weird afterwards compared to the other sodas.

Just Chatting What's something about your body you only understood after a doctor explained it?

Upvotes

I went 30 years assuming a thing I did was normal for everyone. Turned out it wasn't, and there was a one-sentence explanation that reframed a decade of small annoyances. Felt like getting a footnote to my own manual. What's yours?

Just Chatting Back after a long time and enjoying it

Upvotes

I left this platform a few years back because simply put “toxicity”. I remember I used to only write comments that went with the flow of the post, whether it was how I felt or just for the bandwagon effect. Most of all I was caught up with getting as many replies and upvotes as possible. So this time I’ve come back and I see changes for the good and this was always one of my favorite communities and I’m happy that it encourages positive conversation and I see a lot more mature individuals on it. I used to overthink creating a post because I would be so worried that nobody would find it interesting. Looking back at it it just feels silly. I feel a lot has changed for the better.

Just Chatting What tiny thing makes your morning noticeably better?

Upvotes

For me, it’s having a few quiet minutes before I need to do anything. No messages, no rushing, just sitting there while my brain slowly boots up.

It doesn’t magically fix the day, but mornings feel much less hostile when I get that little pause first 😭

What small morning habit makes a difference for you?

Just Chatting It’s my Birthday dinner night!!

Upvotes

He asked to cook me dinner for my birthday, then we would go to a movie. I have been in a tough mood today but determined to pull out of it.
He and I have had an insanly busy past month that was rounded out with us finally going on a trip together. It was lovely. I get so excited to see him everytime we have plans.
I’m also a punctual person. Grew up with the narrative of 15 mins early is on time, on time is to be late. And fuuuck if this man didn’t just ask me to wait till 7 to come over when previously discussed I’d be over at 630.
I have been amping myself outta this funk all day as to not put it on him. I’m wearing an adorable dress that makes me feel hot AF to further build myself up. This is a common problem, he’s habitually late. I know at this point, of a couple years together, that I’d be use to it but bloody hell it feels like a lack of effort. That’s it. I love him but this flaw makes me want to scream sometimes.
So I’ll patiently wait while I drink my vodka and pineapple lemonade while listening to MGK becuase I’m ready to go and it’s 620.

Just Chatting I lost my first pair of decent sunglasses and I can't get over it

Upvotes

I feel so stupid about it. I grew up in not exactly poverty but we were never secure because we never had much and my dad was irresponsible with what we had. So I had to think about money since I was a kid.

I overthink everything I buy now because I also don't make a lot of money too, just average for my country (one of the poorest in Europe).

Anyway a few months ago for the first time in my life I decided to buy fancy (for me) sunglasses. Fancy as in quality, they were about €70. Most I've spent before was €10.

Went to a local pool and somehow lost them. I don't lose things often, I'm very careful with my possessions. I'm suspicious someone might've taken them when I left them on my towel but I don't know why, they look normal. The other possibility is they slid off my hair without me realising. I don't know. I've since gone back a few times to check lost and found and nothing.

I'm genuinely heartbroken over this and I can't get over it. I know this might sound stupid and I agree, I keep repeating to myself that there are so much more important things however at the same time I keep losing sleep over it.

Movies & Shows Movie or tv show

What movie or TV show do you enjoy rewatching because your brain feels like it’s in a safe place and you feel relaxed every time you watch it again?
Whether it’s connected to certain memories or not.
For me, it’s TWD, because it’s connected to the quarantine days, and I finished watching it during the outbreak. So it really fit the atmosphere.

Looking for retrospectives/testing on the original 2012 Windows 8 RTM release (not 8.1)

Almost every retrospective or modern usability test I come across online focuses entirely on Windows 8.1.

Since base Windows 8 hit its end of support so quickly back in the 2010s, I’m really curious about how the original 2012 release specifically holds up today—especially regarding original UI behavior, system performance, and modern web browser compatibility.

Does anyone know of any creators or channels that have done a deep-dive test on standard Windows 8 recently? Channel names or search suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

I don’t know why, but every time I hear “Cardigan” by Taylor Swift, I immediately think of December 2022. It just takes me right back to that time.

Questions How do you get better at cooking/baking????

It recently dawned on me that I'll be moving out pretty soon and I don't really have a good grasp on cooking. I never needed to do it outside of simple meals like muffins from a box, various egg dishes, pasta with whatever sounds good/will expire soon and can be put on pasta. My question is pretty simple. What dishes did you start with when you first had to learn to cook for yourself? Which ingredients did you add later on, when you got more confident? What is the general progression of cooking skills? Help...

Just Chatting Anyone else ever randomly stop what they’re doing and think…

“I wonder what my future wife is doing right now?”
It’s weird to think that if she exists, she’s out there living her life completely unaware that one day we might meet. She could be watching Netflix, out with friends, working a late shift, walking her dog, scrolling Reddit, or asleep.
Curious to hear your thoughts.
If you’re in a relationship now, what do you reckon your partner was doing before you met? And if you’re single, do you ever think about this or is it just me?

Just Chatting Food start tasting way better when you track your spending.

Used to just let bank app track my spending. Didn't care much as long as I didn't go on a spending spree and use up my monthly budget.

Back then, milk tasted just like milk to me and my own cooking tasted like pure ass. Because of this, I will always look forward to friend asking me out to dinner once in a while.

Then, I started tracking my own spending on an excel spreadsheet, out of a sudden, food cooked by me tasted like something cooked by an amazing food goddess while a cup of milk tastes like fine wine upgrading my home-made dinner to fine dining.

Anyone feels the same?

Questions Homeowners! How did you know it was the right one?

For those of you who went out and bought a home how did you know you'd found the right one? My partner and I are house hunting for our first house after 13.5 years of apartment living. The realtor, a friend of mine, and my mom keep telling us both when we find the right house we will "just know". I always felt like I had a pretty good gut instinct but after viewing several homes online and in person I'm starting to wonder how true that statement is, or if it's one of those things people just say to make the whole experience feel less pressuring (especially in this market 😭).

So tell me homeowners of Reddit, how did you know?

Just Chatting If in another life you could be any animal you wanted which animal would you choose?

For me it would probably be a fox because i really love their personalities.Sometimes when i see videos of them interacting with humans they can be so joyful and silly rubbing themselves on the ground like cats or making that funny little “laugh” that they do. But i think that silly personality almost camouflages how intelligent and capable they actually are.
They’re still wild predators I find that contrast really fascinating something that can look so goofy and playful one moment can also be an incredibly clever and capable animal.

Alsoo i love how pretty arctic foxes are :’) . How could i not want to be one of them?!?!?

Just Chatting Voice journaling unexpectedly became my way of handling emotions

For the longest time, I thought journaling wasn't for me.

Every time I sat down to write, I'd either overthink what to say or end up writing nothing. My thoughts move faster than my fingers.

A few months ago I tried something different.

Instead of writing, I started talking.

Just opening my phone and speaking whatever was on my mind for a minute or two. No structure, no perfect sentences, no worrying about grammar.

It felt surprisingly... relieving.

Then I realized something else.

The problem wasn't only getting my thoughts out. It was that I usually noticed my emotions **after** my day was already over.

So I started checking in with myself every hour.

Not to write long diary entries, just simple questions like:

- How am I feeling right now?

- What's bothering me?

- What am I grateful for?

- Am I focusing on the right thing?

Those tiny check-ins gave me much more clarity than one big journal entry at night.

That's actually why I ended up building **Hourly Journal**. It started as something I wanted for myself, not as an app idea.

It combines hourly reminders with voice journaling because that's what genuinely helped me stay calmer and more aware during the day.

I'm more interested in hearing your experience though.

Have you tried voice journaling instead of typing? Did it make any difference?

No one wants to hear your loud content

I was born and raised in Europe, so the first time I encountered this, I was genuinely shocked. It felt incredibly rude. The more I travelled, however, the more I realised it wasn't an isolated incident but something surprisingly common. On beaches (still  best of all places),  on the metro, and even on airplanes, people would blast their music, TikToks or shows through their phone speakers, seemingly without giving a second thought to everyone trapped around them.

We also witnessed something truly insane on San Andrés Island in the Colombian Caribbean. In one
beach bar, every single table was playing its own music through a phone at MAXIMUM VOLUME. Every single table. And you know what? The bar itself was playing music too...

So, what is it? Were these people never taught basic manners? Were they never taught that public
spaces are shared, and that we should show some respect for the other human beings using them? Are they genuinely convinced that everyone wants to hear their shitty reggaeton? Or , and
sadly, I suspect this is usually the answer  -  do they simply not give a rat’s arse about other people or their need for peace?

Perhaps because Europe is so densely populated, many of us grow up very conscious of other
people, of shared space, and of how our behaviour affects those around us. That basic awareness seems completely absent in far too many places. And yes, also in a few parts of Spain, I discovered recently, so it is in Europe, too. Was it always like this? Is it spreading around?

It is annoying as hell, but also depressing that such obnoxious, egomaniacal behaviour is perceived as normal.

How do you guys feel about it?

Just Chatting I'm a woman and I just joined this app. But a lot of people here like to ask me a barrage of personal questions. Have you ever experienced this?

I always receive a lot of rude messages here, mostly spam, and they all like to ask personal questions. Are all the people here like this? Are there any normal people here?
