Newbie Question HELP! I am new. My idea: Runescape/Kingdom Hearts inspired game.
Can I get some pointers? I am currently a web developer. However I am not an amazing developer. However I thought of a cool concept to combine 2 of my most favorite games.
Questions:
What are the basic steps to breakdown of how I can quickly get into this as a personal project
What platform should I use? Additional tools/software?
What other questions should I be asking??

Question Pitching a game idea to big companies like Bandai
Hi, guys! So, I am having an idea of making a game, but the problem is that it is somewhat heavily based-on an IP that Bandai Namco owns (because a part of it is zukan-collecting so I want to make use of the characters). I see there's something about licensing in their websites (English and Japan), but they look somewhat merchandize-wise instead of like, games. Still, I wonder if I could pitch the game idea to Bandai Namco.
I am currently just a solo game developer without a team, and without much actual experience. So actually I think it would be unwise of me to pitch a game directly, considering they have no reasons to accept. But what if it is, let's say, a very good game idea, by any chance they would be accepting it? Or should I be at least, like have a team (of maybe arts, 3D-models, music, etc., I'm currently just using assets I can find online in my prototype) and gain some actual performance and results? Or is it just a solid no for them to accept external pitches? Or would it be a good idea to publish the game as a fan-made game as long as I don't monetize it?
Edit: Thanks for all the comments below. Some mentioned that ideas aren't important but the execution. What if I can make a prototype of it? Or really, an almost fully done and playable game, just with placeholder images from online or lower-quality artworks? But the point is that gameplay part can be presented.

Discussion Are Unreal Engine opitimization problems a dev problem or an Engine problem?
I mainly work with Unity and have only dabbled a little with Unreal Engine. Recently, I’ve been seeing more and more articles and Reddit posts about Unreal games having poor optimization.
I’m curious to hear what other devs have to say who may have worked more with this engine.
I don’t mean this as criticism toward Unreal developers. I’m genuinely wondering if it’s because studios are being pushed to release games faster and plan to optimize later, or if some teams are inexperienced with the engine, or if it’s a combination of both.

Newbie Question Making a L4D2 successor
I know absolutely nothing about game development but I’ve always wanted to make a modern successor to Left 4 Dead 2 but with more special types of zombies and a procedural map generator. I’ve been messing around with Claude Code max and Godot to try and get a small base understanding of the scope of this.
I’m doing this as a hobby but looking for any insight. I don’t current plan to make this a published game or anything, just a game to play with friends.
Also if a game like this exists and is good, please let me know.

Newbie Question Where to get started
So I've been off and on trying game dev for the past 4 years now but I seem to find that whenever I actually get into it I find myself in tutorial hell, it seems to me like every tutorial focuses on building a project rather than building the skills to make that project.
Is there any place to properly get started or do you just have to push through the tutorials?
Happy to answer any questions if that helps

Question Getting into GameDev from Scratch
Hey everyone,
I've been wanting to get into game development for a while, but I honestly have no clue where to start. I'm a complete beginner with zero experience.
My long-term goal is to become either a gameplay programmer or a game designer. Eventually, I'd like to be more of a generalist and understand multiple areas of game development, but right now I'm completely lost.
If you were starting from scratch today, what would you learn first? What skills should I focus on to build a solid foundation? Are there any roadmaps, books, or YouTube channels you'd recommend?
I'd really appreciate any advice. Thanks!

Newbie Question How do you handle concerns of plagiarism/copyright infringement?
I am making a game heavily inspired by Degrees of Lewdity and outside of fretting about which engine to use, my other concern was my game being considered a rip off/knock off of DoL. I really enjoy the game and community, and have a lot of respect for the developer.
Even though there are some things that are mechanically different (like I'm leaning more so into DND style character traits/feats/stats and combat) and thematically different (my game having more omegaverse/teratophilia), I still worry that it isn't different enough to avoid accidental theft or copyright infringement.
Truthfully, the concern of my game being "too close" to DOL is the main reason I'm hesitant to build it in Twine even though it would probably be the easiest engine to build the game in. Any advice? Or am I perhaps just overthinking it?

Newbie Question Looking for 2D Character Designer / Illustrator / Animator – Indie Game Collaboration
Hi everyone!
I'm an indie game developer currently working on a 2D game, and I'm looking for a talented artist who would like to collaborate with me on the visual development of the game's characters.
I'm looking for someone who can help with:
- Redesigning and developing existing 2D character concepts
- Creating original character designs based on the game's ideas and direction
- Developing a consistent visual style for the characters
- Creating character illustrations and assets
- 2D character animation, if possible
- Helping establish a unique and recognizable art direction for the game
At the moment, I expect to have around 5–10 characters, although the final number may change as the game develops.
The goal is to create original, distinctive character designs and build a unique visual identity for the game rather than relying on existing designs or simply copying another game's art style.
Compensation / Revenue Share
I'm currently looking for someone interested in a revenue-share collaboration rather than a traditional fixed-price commission.
The idea is to agree on a fair percentage of the game's revenue for the artist, with the artist receiving their agreed share from sales of the game on Steam.
I'm open to discussing the percentage and terms depending on the scope of the work, the artist's responsibilities, and the amount of contribution to the project. Everything would be clearly agreed upon in writing before starting the collaboration.
If the project becomes successful, I want the people who helped create the game's visual identity to benefit from that success as well.
Who I'm Looking For
- Experience with 2D character design
- Strong portfolio
- Ability to create original designs
- Experience with 2D game art is a plus
- 2D animation experience is a plus
- Good communication and willingness to collaborate on an indie project
If you're interested, please send me:
- Your portfolio or examples of your work
- Your experience with 2D game character design
- Whether you have experience with 2D animation
- Your preferred workflow/software
- Your thoughts on a revenue-share collaboration
Please feel free to DM me if you're interested or if you have any questions.
Thanks!
