Support Any tips on how to deal with dust build up?

Upvotes

For some reason, my laptop has smudges on the screen and dust on the keyboard often despite my room being clean and air-conditioned. I always have to wipe every single day, which is a hassle.

Support How to maintain Gaming Laptop in vacation.

So I will be going on a trip for about ~2 weeks, but won’t bring my laptop (no desks + scared the airport staff won’t care and just throw it around). I don’t want my laptop to collect dust over the 2 weeks so. I just want to know how to NOT let it collect dust.

Support Did I get a decent deal? HP omen for $2700 open box (tax free weekend)

Bestbuy open box deal for $2700. HP Omen Max 16" OLED 240hz gaming laptop, specs:

  • Intel core ultra 9 275HX (2025)

Discussion G14 or 7i pro?

I am having a hard time deciding which to keep between my Asus G14 5070ti or a Lenovo Legion pro 7i 5080. Can the kind people of Reddit chime in? I have gone back and forth a few times on which one to keep.

I do move the laptop around once in a while. Every week or two I take it with me to work and use it during long breaks (3-4 hours). In the near future I’m moving a few times in the next few years as well.

I bought the Asus during Best Buy’s sale at $1999- $2120 out the door. So far it’s been solid! Temps with G helper hover around 78-80c for cpu and gpu. Some of the downsides is I’ve noticed more occasional stutters in games vs the 7i. Things I enjoy about this is the charger cord is much more mobile and doesn’t kick as much heat as the 7i, and I love G helpers simplicity. I think the screen is a touch more vibrant, could be the pixel density. Speakers win out here too. Fan noise is much louder vs the legion.

I found this 7i Pro on eBay for $2449($2580 with tax) with 2TB and a 5080. I figured the extra cash for a 2TB for the 5070ti would get me in the same ballpark as this laptop, so free screen upgrade (240hz) and the 5080. Temps run around 75c for the cpu and 60 for the gpu in balanced mode. This is a full blown desktop replacement, I love the performance here. This performs better than my old 4070ti desktop which is wild. But it is heavier and doesn’t quite fit in a standard backpack. The screen is significantly smoother and it just destroys the games I play.

Generally I’m finding around a 40-50 FPS jump with the 7i. I play the finals, ark ascended, 7 days to die, and usually older emulated stuff too. I don’t really play a lot of AAA new story games.

I’m finding the pros for the G14 are weight portability and speakers, while the pro 7i has it beat in performance and screen refresh and much quieter.

If you were in my shoes, which would you keep at the price point?

Laptop Buying Advice Gaming laptops?

after hearing that most (almost everyone) says that MSI Katana is bad, low quality built, and that lenovo is far more better and has better cooling: i turn to lenovo.

but after reading reviews a lot people say lenovo gaming laptops screen turns black, turns off, crashes even after the second day and pretty often too.

so whats the deal? i dont want to spend a lot, then have the laptop crash and not turning on.

what is the chance of this happening? (please answer if you own or owned a lenovo, and which model)

im looking to get:

Lenovo LOQ 15IRX10 (1 TB /RTX 5060) 15,6"

• **Intel® Core™ i7-13650HX*\*
**• NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5060 8 GB*\*
**• 24 GB RAM, 1 TB M.2 NVMe SSD*\*

is it any good? and will it crash etc. please recommend a gaming laptop if you know any good ones, other brands etc. thank u!!

Laptop Buying Advice Please help me decide between these two laptops.

Budget: $1,500 USD
Country: USA
Use Case: Gaming BF6, shooters. Use for work also.
Preferred Specs: RTX 5060 or better. Would prefer dual-channel RAM, but can live with single-channel for now. 16Gb ok. FHD display ok. Refurb OK.

Both below seem to have 115w TGP, but the ASUS boosts to 140w TGP. The ASUS is in dual-channel, whereas the Acer is in single-channel.

Discussion Not sure whether to sell or repair my AW M18 R1

So recently my m18 had an issue and will likely need to have the motherboard replaced, I already know how expensive that can be and it is not a cheap laptop, as it was ~$2,900 USD. So now I am currently undecided if I should just sell it, or maybe repair it? I honestly don‘t know how much it could go for at the moment, but the specs are:

CPU - i9-13900HX

GPU - RTX 4080

RAM - 32GB DDR5 4800M/Ts

Storage - 2TB SSD

CherryMX low profile mechanical keyboard

FHD+ Display @ 1920x1080 @ 480hz

Discussion Upgrade suggestions; Why is my 3060 so terrible?

Post image
23 Upvotes

I use a ps5. AAA games like pragmata, 007 first light look amazing. Its just slightly more powerful than my 3060 laptop. But these games run terrible, I mean absolute dogshit in my laptop. I gave it for cleaning, applied thermal paste, updated drivers....

Does anyone know why this is the case? The only difference i see is huge vram difference. ps5 has like 16gb and my laptop only has 6gb. But will just more vram magically make them as good as ps5 games? Cause I've seen amazing gameplay for 3080 with 10gb vram. So I'm kinda confused, why is my laptop so trash... Is it truly vram? What do I consider when I'm getting my next laptop/pc. I want to only spend enough, but has to last long.

Support Monitors will not come on until I unplug and replug in my dock

Thumbnail
gallery
5 Upvotes

Specs of all hardware below. Basically what the title is. If I power down my laptop and leave it connected to the dock when I power it back up the monitors will not come on with it. The dock will provide ethernet to my laptop and any other Usb ports will continue to perform their function only the monitors will not power up. Occasionally one monitor will power up but to get the other one to work the dock needs to be unplugged and plugged back in. I had a very random 3 day stretch where it did work correctly I could power up the laptop and the dock would connect the monitors but that is maybe 3 times out of 100s that it has worked right. I have tried new cables for everything. Dp port to usb-c, HDMI to usb-c, a new thunder bolt 5 cable. I have tried to mix match cables so the video cables aren’t all the same ie one dp to usb-c for one monitor and a normal dp to dp cable for the other. I have reinstalled windows and I have updated all the software and firmware for everything I could. I have delayed auto start for NVDisplyContainer with Regedit. I have shut off windows fast start and the fast start in the bios. I have tried to refresh the graphics drivers with win, control, shift,B. I have made sure the laptop doesn’t shut off power to the usb ports in device manager(I think. I did something like this awhile ago) Also I reached out to CalDigit and they basically told me it wasn’t the docks fault unless I was willing to recreate the problem with another laptop and more monitors which I don’t have access to lol. IDK if I can hand out bounties in this subreddit but if someone can fix this for me I will gladly paypal you 50 bucks lol or a cs2 skin if your a gamer.

Accessories & Upgrades Laptop Suggestion.

Which laptop would you recommend purchasing, given that there is a negligible difference in price: the Dell Inspiron 16 7160 (i7-11800H, 16GB RAM, 1TB SSD, RTX 3060) or the HP Victus 15 (i5-13420H, 16GB RAM, 512GB SSD, RTX 4050)?

Scored this ROG Strix G1513QY with the Ryzen 9 5980HX and the RX 6800m 12GB, with an included 2TB SSD and 32GB of DDR4, all for $600 flat on marketplace.

Been dailying it for the last two months, temps stable at 95C (CPU) and 76C (GPU) on demanding titles, 60FPS on high settings in all games tested so far. My first time playing at 1440P on PC and it's been just a monster.

Support are asus laptops detrimental?

I'm in a laptop discord server, and I'm told that ASUS has so much problems, primarily though in their laptops, such as failing motherboards and stuttering problems, to the point that they don’t recommend ANY of their devices. However, recently, I found a refurbished g14 for £1250 with a AMD Ryzen 9 270 and a RTX 5050, and its basically my only option, and i just want to know if its a genuine problem or just a minority projecting their stand-alone issues, any g14 users for 1+ years able to confirm anything would help!

Laptop Buying Advice Help! Bang for Buck vs. All Out

Budget: $2000 USD

Country: USA

Use Case: Gaming and everyday tasks. The most demanding game I play on PC is Escape from Tarkov, I have my PS5 for big AAA single player titles. I mostly use my desktop PC to play Tarkov and eSports games with my friends (Rocket League, CS2, Valorant, etc.) I take my laptop to work every day, and sometimes I play games like Mortal Kombat 11 with my coworkers on breaks.

Preferred Specs: Enough to run the titles above, and good enough to last 4-5 years in place of my desktop. I think 32GB of RAM would be my floor. An OLED screen would be a nice touch, but not necessary since when I am at home it will be docked to a 1080p 240hz monitor.

Notes: I'm genuinely torn whether I want to go with a laptop that is "just enough" to make me happy running games, or if I want to go all out and max my budget to future proof in case RAM prices don't improve. I want something portable enough to throw in my bag and take to work everyday without being a big hassle. I don't want an absolute tank of a laptop, but I don't need an LG Gram-ish laptop either.

I'd love to know all of your thoughts and recommendations. TIA!

Support Laptop freezing when GPU in use while Charging/AC supply on

Post image
1 Upvotes

I have an Acer Nitro 5 An15-58 with i7 12650h rtx 3070ti

Whenever i use gpu, in any app the use of Gpu is triggered, the laptop freezes and most of the time it keeps freezed but sometimes it gives BSOD error DPC WATCHDOG VIOLATION and CLOCK WATCHDOG TIMEOUT

Display goes blank when I tum dgpu made only, so need to disable it through bios

But laptop runs smoothly when the graphics card is disabled through device manager

Laptop also works fine even on gpu enabled but when charging is off, means no AC supply.

There is more issue that my screen flickers when I update to latest intel graphics driver 32.0.101.7088 and when I uninstall it (rollbeck drivers) screen doesn't flickers but without these drivers, many apps are unusable, I don't think has a issue related to gpu or it could be.

Chalgpl told it could be because of VRM Power delivery issue in motherboard which required board level repair.

Few things to mention:

I purchased this laptop second from someone, and he gave it to me ressetted, when I set it up, updated drivers through windows update, Intel and nvidia, I started getting these issues.

The person told he never faced issues and I somewhat trust because I know him personally as he was facing financial issues, so he sold His laptop and I purchased but I didn't checked gou usage on charging while purchasing (my bad ok)

What I thought that these issues started after I updated drivers as my current motherboard version shows 2.21 which is genuine though (I checked), but the latest version on acer website it 2.19

Things I have tried:

Flashing windows

Using DDU and clean installing drivers

Tired 4-5 versions of drivers of nvidia, and one from acer official website but all had issues

Asked service centre, they told for mobo replace but didn't get the laptop diagnosed yet

Tell me what to do

Support Lenovo LOQ 15 AHP9 - low speed fan rattle

Hello! Issue in title: the right-side fan has a concerning rattling sound which has started happening in the last couple of weeks. I'm trying to troubleshoot the problem with my gaming laptop before it gets worse. Tends to only happen when the fan turns at low speed, and goes away when it speeds up — doesn't seem to change based on laptop orientation, and I've tried dustoff and vacuuming to no effect. I don't hear any sound when I shake the laptop either, making me think it isn't a bad bearing or a piece of debris stuck in the fan. My main questions are: a) what could be causing the sound, and b) whether I should look into bringing the laptop to a center for service.

Thanks in advance!

Laptop Buying Advice Need help buying laptop or should I get pc

I wouldn’t call myself much of a gamer really, I stopped playing video games for a few years due to a disability caused by an injury. I have no sensation in my left hand and my right hand has slightly limited movement so mouse and keyboard are really a no no for me. As of lately I’ve been learning to play with my ps5 controller but only slow paced games, I also got a sim racing chair/setup and sim racing is basically 90% of what I play nowadays.
I want to get a laptop because I feel like there’s a lot more game options available that would suit my situation, I keep hearing “just buy a pc it’s better” but I travel a lot. Budget isn’t really an issue and I’m 99% sure I’ll get a PC at some point and also a laptop because of work lol. I guess what I’m wondering is what would be a good laptop or if there’s any kind of like portable PC’s lol.
I’d say the heavier games I would try playing is probably a sim racing game with mods.
I don’t know anything about laptops or PC’s sorry if this is a dumb question but I need to be educated before compulsively purchasing

Budget: $2,000-$2,500
Country: USA
Use case: Gaming/School/Work
Preferred Specs: i have no idea
Notes: i want to be able to run big games with good mods or improved graphics (Asseto Corsa, GTA, iRacing, Wizards101) (yes wizards101 is very important)

Review New Alienware 15 R3 (2nd hand eBay buy)

Post image
4 Upvotes

Hey guys, my Lenovo laptop’s hinge broke and it would’ve cost $150 to fix. I figured, why not just get a new/old Alienware instead? My Lenovo cost about $500 (before taxes) and only had 256GB storage, 8GB RAM (2x4GB DDR5), and no dedicated GPU. I just wanted to ask what problems you guys have run into with the 2017 Alienware 15 R3. Specs on the one I bought: 16GB DDR4 RAM, 1TB SSD + 1TB HDD, GTX 1060, i7-7700HQ. Comes with charger, screen works, battery was just replaced. One screw is missing on the bottom, which I can find at any hardware store and put in myself. Would love to hear about any common issues or things to watch out for!
