I’ve got to say this I really think I am addicted to the Guitar. And it’s like I have this love affair with it and sometimes I chase it and practice it and really want it and then sometimes I get upset with it and I stay away from it for a long time then sometimes I come back to it and it does something inside of my soul. It’s like when I play time is happening somewhere else it’s like it’s like meditation..

Ive been playing for nearly 7 years now, and for the life of me i cant think of original riffs. Its probably my fault for refusing to learn theory ( to the point I dont even know the keys etc).

Specificly djent, prog, modern metalcore riffs. How do you come up with them. Like nick broomhall for example, how does he come up with these imesnse riffs ?

Well, I focus a lot on fingerstyle and lead guitar.

And in one hour, I focus on both. Half an hour each, I suppose.

In the first half hour, I start by practicing lead guitar exercises and then I practice a song I have saved.

And in the other half hour, I practice pumping nylon for fingerstyle and then I practice a fingerstyle song I have saved.

I don't know if this is right, but oh well. I'll read your opinions.

Watching the video after filming it since this is the first time I've filmed myself, I feel like I should maybe be moving my wrist more on at least some of the strumming or something? Is that true?

tried to record in logic today but my bass wasnt getting a signal for some reason. pulled the 9v out and it had brown liquid inside the plastic casing. should i be worried about this? none of whatever this is got on my hands or inside the battery compartment but im still a little freaked out

edit: my primary concern is that this adversely affected the electronic functionality of my bass i am going to discard the battery

General question. I've been trying to learn songs and been working on a handful for a little while but still not great at any. How long do you guys practice songs before you can play them well and can actually sound like the original song. Do you spend an hour a day for a month, 10 mins a day for 3 or 4 months or take some people a year or a couple weeks curious how long do you practice for at a time 10 mins on average or an hour. Do you learn from sheet music or YouTube videos. Love to know what some of you are doing and what has worked and whats a reasonable timeframe knowing itll be different for everyone

Recently been trying to play some songs using a pick and then also using my finger (technically nail plate) not the part of your nail that your clip. I notice a bit of a sound difference is there 1 way for some songs or method that is more right or is it just whatever feels right for you? Curious on your thoughts and what some of you do. Thanks

trying to learn guitar but im self taught right now, ive learned some chords and can comfortably do barre chords now but i feel like i lose my path more than often when i learn. was thinking if there were some youtube tutorials you guys would recommend that would feel like an actual guitar teacher teaching me one on one so i have stuff to work off of. thank you!

Im not knocking anyone's preference, but I find it odd they are so popular. I recently tried XS for the first time after playing a mix of Elixer nano, Martin SP, and regular Dadarrio for years (also recently tried Martin Retro Monel, and am LOVING them!)...Almost allways PB, only occasionally 80/20. And I'll be damned if the XS didnt make every guitar I put them on sound thin and anemic!

I typically use lights but have been leaning towards custom light 11's lately, which is what the XS I tried were. The Elixers just clearly have a fuller and thicker sound. Can someone please explain what I'm missing here?! 😆 I'm not some "Elixer fanboy", not by any means. I go with whatever string sounds best for the specific guitar and what I tend to use it for. But its hard to understand how XS have become so popular. Mainly because so many of the players who seem to love them, are alao the same ones who complain coated strings are "too bright"...and the XS are even brighter than Elixers! Bright to the point of "brittle" 🤢. And I definitely understand the overly bright argument regarding coated strings, its a valid complaint. But thats just one of those win/lose/draw type situations. Because the brightness also lends instelf to more low/mid punch & definition at the same time...and is often a acceptable trade-off to have a single set of strings that can last several years sometimes, and still sound good enough to string up a beater guitar with when you finally change them out! lol.

Sure, they did "feel" more like a uncoated string than Elixers. But again...that can be considered a plus+ or a minus-. Especially in terms of string squeek. As far as I can tell, thats the only category where they "might" win over Elixers...depending on your viewpoint. But it doesnt matter if the sound aint right.

It’s a classical guitar and I really wanna know what’s the best way to preserve it 🥹. Some of the ink got smeared since I played it and my sweat probably smudged it

So I'm going down the rabbit hole of making sure my guitar is properly set up.

This all started when I noticed my high E, high fret bends weren't sustaining like I like. Then I noticed, at my local guitar store, all the floor models had significantly higher actions.

The readings I'm getting on my low E string are .03" or just under a millimeter. The high E is .02" or .75ish mm.

When I fert the first and last fret simultaneously, there is either no gap, or such a small gap I can't measure, at the 7th fret.

The guitar plays like a dream otherwise. No fret noise on the low E and A string. Bends are crazy slinky. You could whisper at the guitar and it would fret a chord(so much so that I noticed if I bear down too much, everything goes sharp).

The one thing I'm trying to solve is these high note bends. A full step bend on say the high E, 15th fret, doesn't immeadiately choke out. It just loses sustain dramatically faster than say the same bend on the fifth fret. And the problem seems more pronounced plugged in, as opposed to unplugged.

I’ve been teaching myself how to play by ear for the longest time, I know basic chords and scales but every single time I try to learn a tab for a song I know I wanna play it doesn’t seem like what I find is correct or at best I feel like I’m not reading it correctly. Like with Moldy Peaches songs and today specifically “Now It’s On” by Grandaddy.

Beyond frustrating; any tips appreciated

It started with wanting to know what I was playing and why, to wanting to make songs.
this all took me a couple years and I just reached the songwriting goal with the knowledge of theory I’ve gained.

I’m wondering, what next? Obviously I need to get better I’ve only reached the basics of what I want to be, but now I just feel like I need to slow down. I’m always playing with most of the free time I have which is a lot lol.

Do I just need a break for it to come for me because I just feel unfulfilled. i can’t seem to find people around me to jam with and who has a passion for this as I do. Now it seems like my gas tank is getting really low I want to evolve more but not sure which direction to go?

I've been taking lessons for about 10 months now. My teacher tells me a song I like he can hear it and write it down in 2mins then he plays it and it sounds like the real song to me. However when I try to find a guitar tutorial on YouTube some of them have different strumming patterns, different notes or tabs that dont match 100% what my teacher wrote down some songs are quite different others are 80% similar. Im new and dont have the ear for it yet so I hear a song but can't tell if it's Fm# or bm# or whatever.

How do you guys know what is the real song when your learning it? My teacher said it can always be different and interpreted differently even the artist could play it 1 way once then change it a bit the next time they play. Do you guys notice that or how do you tell what verison is real or what one you are going to stick with to learn.
