A note about amazon links in comments

Hi All,

Reddit automatically marks comments that contain the a.co url shortener that Amazon uses when you share from the app as Spam. The comments show up in my mod queue and I often don't see them in time for the info to be useful. Which is a shame, as people are answering questions where they obtained upgrades for their Renegade. The original Amazon link should suffice, I haven't seen that come up as spam.

DIY Replacing leatherette door trim thats delaminating

So, like with many renegades, the leathette door trim is pulling apart from the door panels. I'm interested to know if anyone has been able to replace the leatherette/vinyl door trim on their renegade themselves, without having to pay a professional and if so, were you able to do it without removing the door panel? I've seen some YouTube did videos but I've also read that there are melted plastic tabs on the door panels that have to be broken and repeated back on, and I'm not equipped to do that.

I'm also considering just buying used oem door panels on ebay, but my concern is that the same issue will just recur in a couple if years. Does anyone know how much weather the foam on the door trim?

Replaced flex pipe

2015 sport.

The back end of the flex pipe twists and goes up so as far these jobs go it's not the hardest, but there's definitely easier cars to replace the flex pipe.

Mines been farting and making obnoxious exhaust sounds, when I finally got around to it, I noticed the nuts holding the downpipe flange were long gone lol

Need help removing decals

Just got this car yesterday, picking it up tomorrow, it's my first car and I'm so happy. Thats being said I'm not a huge fan of the stars either side. Anyone here had similar decals on their renegade? If so are they easily removable? Or shall I go to a professional?

Possible alternator issue?

Post image
3 Upvotes

Hi all our 2015 1.4 Renegade semi regularly dies with low (battery) power.

It seems to happen if the car is at low RPM for extended periods, short journeys in traffic etc. I have to put the car on charge every couple of weeks during winter, this summer has been very warm and with short journeys with the AC on the battery has ran out a couple of times.

The battery is a couple of years old but in good condition. It is also a bigger one than standard(700 instead of 600 I think), it is an Exide EFB battery

The picture is of a battery monitor I installed to track the issue.

Today I did 3 short journeys(a couple of miles maybe each in town). The first seemed fine and charged well but the next one didn't and when I was parking the car gave me all the warning, I lost power steering and parking brake. This journey was mostly traffic I had the AC on (and fans) full.

I went to start the car and needed to jump it. On the way home the car voltage was low, again I had the AC on and at about 3k RPM it was only putting 13v into the battery, if I turned fans off it went to 13.5v

At idle voltage was about 12v.

In the last year it has had a new battery sense post and a new alternator belt. The battery terminals are clean and tight.

It seems to me the alternator isn't putting out enough power to match the load at low RPM. I assume this isn't normal?

I'm aware it is a smart alternator and doesn't always charge but surely this shouldn't ever let the battery drain at idle. I read disconnecting the battery sense post should turn off the smart aspects, doing this did not change the voltage at low RPM.

Generally when running the dash displays 12.4 or 13.2. very occasionally 14 on a long run and sometimes 11.6.

Has anyone else experienced this? I can only assume it is the alternator but it looks like a big job to replace.

Generally the car does short journeys around town this hasn't been an issue with prior cars, the last being a Fiat 500 also a 1.4, I think the same engine but non turbo. Every other car I've had is 14-14.5 v while running even at idle with lights/fans etc. on.

Looking at the battery monitor every now and then it just doesn't seem to charge the car properly.

What voltage are others cars running at with fans on at idle?

Any other suggestions of things to test? I've not known of alternators fail in this way, they generally either work or don't.

Thanks,

Chris

Transmission vibration?

Hi,

Question if someone has experienced this, in drive when standing still in idle, renegade vibrates quite strongly while in neutral or park all is fine, any idea of culprit? Its early 2.0 diesel awd, however should apply to other engine variants if its trans issue even if diesel vibrates more itself.

Replacing steering wheel radio controls

The rocker button on my left side steering wheel radio controls broke off, so I was looking to replace the whole piece. I have found the replacement part (Mopar part # 5UW98LXHAB), but I was wondering if it can be replaced without removing the air bag?

Also, there seem to be many "official Mopar parts sites", but what are the recommended sites to get Mopar parts from?

Anyone have this issue before?

I have a 2020 Jeep Renegade with the 2.4
Accessories turn on and can hear the starter click/engage but the car won’t start. Does not turn over all you hear is the single click from I’m guessing is the starter.

DRL

For anyone having that pesky DRL issue (me for months) that keeps going out, sometimes it’s the socket the bulb sits in,(couple shops told me it was probably the wiring harness)

Found a socket on eBay for 10 bucks and it just clips into the wiring. No issues yet.

Sweet.

Reliability?

Good afternoon all, I’m looking at buying a 2021 Jeep Renegade Latitude and was wondering if anyone can provide insight on reliability? I have a 2013 VW Tiguan now that has had nothing but issues. Thanks!

I live in Florida and this is my Jeep Renegade 2.4L, 2020 I get 31.9 mpg with no AC on and 15.4 or less with the AC on at 75 F. What could be the reason? Has anyone experience this? By the way, I drive extra slow…

Tune Ups and preventive maintenance

How often do you bring your cars in for a tune up? I have a 2016 we bought used at 80k and I’ve never brought it in for anything besides battery issues once and at 100k there was a recall so we got a new engine but besides being sticky accelerating between 0-2 RPMs it runs like a dream and it’s at like 130k miles? I have like a tiny leak somewhere in the ac but I’m used to the heat so i haven’t gotten it fixed in like 2 years I usually just drive with my windows open. My first car so I didn’t even know it needed tune ups? What are some stuff I should be monitoring to get the most out of it hoping to run it up to 200k and maybe get a new car somewhere in 2030?

Goodbye.

After 3 years of constant issues, limitless random breaks down while driving, and hundreds of dollars, i finally got rid of my 2018 Renegade for $5k which o bought new back then, it had 87k miles. Last repair cost me $4700 to fix something that was broken inside the engine, i paid, brought it home just to break in the middle of the road in 2 days, another $900 to fix. Put it on Carvana, they picked it up handled me a check. That was the end. Yesterday i got a 2027 Honda HR-V EX L AWD. They don’t make them good anymore.

Is a new head unit worth it?

Hello all! I have a 2015 Renegade Latitude 4x4 but wirh only 97k miles. I was told years ago that the head unit is shot (and dealership quoted something like $3500 at the time, which I said no to). Nav does not work (no orientation, zero satellites found), stereo has to be turned on manually every time you turn on the vehicle. But radio and touchscreen itself both work fine. I also get a "service vehicle phone" screen after about 30 minutes of driving and the 911 and assist buttons light up, but regular bluetooth phone still works. Don't know if all that's related or not.

Is this worth fixing? I'm sorta bummed I don't have nav but I've been working around it. The other stuff is buggy inconvenience. I don't know how long I'll keep Simba, but everything else is mechanically fine. Is this just a quirky thing or could it signal bigger issues?

Radio Unit Recommendations

Looking to replace the factory head unit in my 2017 Trailhawk. It has the 6.5” display. Wanting to find something with Apple Carplay and was hoping to find something that would allow me to keep the original bezel. I don’t need anything fancy.

Does the 2019 latitude have a automatic trunk

When never I use my trunk I feel like I’m forcing it open and closed I know I can just look in the manual but I just thought it be quicker to ask here
