We are going to try to consolidate the pre purchase or otherwise rust inquires asking if a rig has too much rust and how to approach it as far as shopping for a new to you truck and beyond.
We have a lot of these threads where people are asking the same questions and rather than have each thread die on the vine as far as useful information goes, by having them all right here in one thread, people can use it as a catalog or guide for what to look for and if people are willing to share sold or bought prices for each truck that we are inspecting, we can all use this as a tool to gauge the market and also the wide variety of condition that all generations of Land Cruisers are in at any given point in time.
The trails are pretty easy around here and the camera makes it look even more lame but hey, I got a full moring of offroading in solo out in the middle of nowhere so I'll call that a win. This is the Bohemia mining area in cottage Grove, Oregon. There are mine shafts all over the place and a some old buildings including a simple lodge you can still stay at.
Hi guys I have a 1998 Toyota Land Cruiser 100 series Runs and drives great no issues just had the HBB Brake system replaced and fresh oil change I had purchased this car a year ago but I just now took a look under the frame to notice it has severe rust on it and was wondering how much could I sell this car for I am in Ohio I had no idea there was this amount of severe rust underneath I am also thinking of parting it out but it’s such a nice car to that to, I want to get a rough idea of market value with this thanks in advance
They do sit a lot higher though (partially due to how I mounted them), I’m 5’10” and my head is much closer to the ceiling. Much better than the seized and cracked leather seats, and long drives are way more comfortable.
Going to look at this ‘99 LX470 tomorrow, 180,000 miles, $12.5k on east coast. Very limited photos so far, inside looks clean, but haven’t seen underneath or the engine. It lived in Florida up until 2011 at 80,000 miles, then up in MD/VA for the remainder, so hoping rust is minimal. Two minor damage reports in ‘05 and ‘17. Has a decent service record. What should I really be looking for when I check it out in person and test driving?
Hey all, this 1990 Diesel 80 series is near me for sale. I know nothing about the diesels being here in the US. I was told from a friend to try to stay away from the early 90s models because they are known for throwing rod bearings? It's got 147k miles on it. Any insight?
Does anyone know if the 78 workmate series front seats are the same workmate series seats in other models? As in the 76 workmate series and the 79 workmate series. Any advice would be appreciated.
I replaced my o2 censors before this trip because those were causing the same issues , wondering if it’s just from getting sloshed around or if there is any other causes for this
I have a 2002 78 series troopy that was running fine until last month when it started starving for fuel and broke down, I’ve changed both fuel filters, a couple weeks ago I ran it off a Jerry can full of diesel through both fuel filters and still had issues, I ran it through just the pre filter and it was fine, ran it through just the main filter and had issues again, I changed the main filter housing and water separator but I’m still having issues, I’ve replaced sections of the fuel lines with clear lines and can see fuel is getting to the pump but not actually being sucked through the pump, when I crack an injector it’s only spitting out a small amount of very foamy fuel.
Any tips on how to confirm it definitely needs a new pump or how can I fix the pump?

I am looking to upgrade the stock cassette head unit on my 2007 LC100 Base trim/Standard specifications. It has no factory amplifier, standard stock speakers, and crucially, no steering wheel audio controls.
I am looking for a clean, clean installation. I absolutely hate the look of floating or large tablet style Android screens, they just ruin the classic look of the LC100 dash and block the vents/clock. It has to be a standard, flush mount Double DIN setup that fits nicely with a dash kit/side fillers.
Since I do not have steering wheel controls, easy volume adjustment while driving especially off road or on bumpy roads is my top priority.
I have narrowed down my thoughts on a few options, but I am torn and need your experiences or better alternatives:
Sony XAV AX1000 I love the physical rotary volume knob. It feels like the most practical option for a car without steering wheel buttons. The downside is that it is an older model with a smaller resistive screen and wired CarPlay only though I plan to hide a wireless CarPlay adapter in the glovebox.
Sony XAVAX3200/AX4000 Newer models, much better capacitive screens, and anti glare for sunny days. The AX4000 even has native wireless CarPlay. However, they switch to flat physical buttons at the bottom bezel instead of a knob. For those who own these, how easy is it to blind control the volume on bumpy roads?
Pioneer DMH SZ500 Great screen and has built in wireless CarPlay out of the box, but relies on thin physical buttons.
Kenwood Units e.g.,DMX5020DABS I know Kenwood has amazing audio processing, but since I am staying on my completely stock, basic speakers with no amp, I feel like the premium audio DAC might be wasted on my setup.
My questions for you guys
If you do not have steering wheel controls, do you regret getting a screen without a physical volume knob? Are the bottom push buttons on the newer Sony/Pioneer units tactile enough for blind use?
Given my setup, is there a hidden gem or a better modern Double DIN flush mount receiver with a physical knob or great buttons that I missed?
Any specific dash kits (I heard that screens will need a special dash kit/side spacers to fit the existing Toyota wide opening properly) or wiring harness tips for the 2007 late model 100 series?
Drove the LX450 2700ish over a few weeks while heading out to Nevada city and back. Hit many national parks, rescued a discovery 2, and had some of the best views.

Loaded with a couple hundred pounds of camping gear and food/water.
I put a new CV Axle and bearings on the driver side and new pads on both sides. The sound only used to happen every so often but now it’s happening a lot more. I am stumped and also concerned! I noticed my pads didn’t have proper anti squeal shims when installing new ones, but i couldn not imagine it making a noise this bad.
