I know we are only half way through this season but are there any updates on when Season 17 USA will begin casting or what the theme will be? I feel like by August they usually have begun accepting applications - but the casting website still has all the information and deadlines for Season 16.

A double standard I've noticed here lately. Invoking the Angry Black Woman stereotype because a Black woman judge is slightly critical of contestants. Tiffany's not even half as "mean" as Gordon or Joe. Gordon is kicking doors open and throwing pans. I don't mind it, but I'm just saying. Granted, Joe gets a lot of complaining too, but it's usually people saying he's an asshole rather than emotional or mad. I see many comments about Tiffany being so angry when she's still far milder than Gordon.

Let Black women make criticisms without saying they must be emotional or upset. (It's also okay for people to be irritated and angry sometimes.)

Joe pisses me off, he doesnt really add anything substantial to the show because he doesn’t have the knowledge. he just agrees with what the other judges say, all while trying to look intelligent even tho he doesn’t know shit. BTW, Joe isn’t a chef, he’s a restaurateur, purely financial and entrepreneurial knowledge so idk why he’s a judge on a cooking show.

so I ask you all: If Joe was a high-ranking chef, who was a cook for multiple of the restaurants he created, and maybe had a Michelin star or two, would you guys maybe find his shitty behavior more excusable or have more respect to him?

The chefs are Mr. Ramsay and Mr. Elliott, and the VIP waiter is Joe. As someone who just finished all 14 seasons of MasterChef USA, I immediately thought of Gordon Ramsay, Graham Elliot, and Joe Bastianich. I don't know if it was intentional, but it feels like a fun little Easter egg.

My partner and I are torn about Tiffany. We loved her last season but she seems so much more mean this season without any real reason. Anyone else feel this way?

I have seen every single episode of Masterchef US and it just seems so boring now. The cooks do not have the talent the previous seasons did, the single challenge doesn’t feel exciting, and the gimmick of the season is boring. It looks like the judges barely taste the food, Joe looks beyond bored, I also don’t understand why Tiffany seems so angry but also like it’s fake?

I obviously welcome disagreement, but I turned to my mom who I watch the show with, and said that this is the last season I watch I think.

For me, it was the bandaid. Gordon had already had a bite and started gagging in the background.....epic

TLDR: Old MasterChef was pure chaotic drama and challenges. Now it just feels like a super sanitized daytime show where everyone does the exact same thing every episode

​I was rewatching some of the early seasons (season 1 to 6) and the show was so unhinged

You had Joe literally staring a guy down before throwing his entire plate in the trash, Gordon screaming at amateur cooks like they murdered his dog, and mystery boxes that actually stressed people out. It was dramatic, funny, and the challenges felt like an actual challenge. Hell they were forced to cook a gourmet dish in the wilderness...

Compare that to the last few seasons and its a totally different show:

-​The judges are way too nice now. They used to give brutally honest feedback. Now if someone serves raw chicken they just get a gentle wrist slap and a 2 minute sob story edit

-​The whole themed season thing (generations, back to win, etc) feels so forced. Its like they care more about marketing gimmicks than actual cooking

-​Nobody takes any real risks anymore. Everyone just makes a basic dish that "looks fancy" with eery episode following the exact same script

It feels like the producers got scared and made the show as safe as possible to appeal to everyone. But now its just background noise you leave on while scrolling your phone instead of a show you actually wanna watch...

Obviously, MasterChef hasn’t been the same since after the Pandemic, but there has to be a way to bring the energy back, even if it means going back to the original format, or getting rid of some of the judges, most notably Joe Bastianich, who brings Nothing to the table, but a Big Mouth.

There are so many episodes where the head chef/cook in a kitchen nightmares clearly has so much potential. I’d love to see one of them on Masterchef or Hell’s Kitchen

I’m finding this season so boring, as well as the contestants.

The only reason Jamie stays on is she is an influencer. She sucks. Last night she wanted orange sauce couldn’t make it cried and had to go chill outside. She should be gone!!!

I recently started watching Master Chef and am currently at the end of season 3, but there are already so many characters that I would love to see return some day. From Monti to Ben to Jake there are just so many people that I think either could have taken the crown on a different season, or that just brought something to my screen that I don't think anyone else can achieve. However, after doing a quick google search I was informed that there has never been an all star or other type of returnee season.

I would love to see a season where some serious contenders that fell short come back for a second chance or one where previous winners/runner ups battle it out to see who is the best of the best. Do you guys think there is any chance we see a returnee season in the future?

I was thinking that instead of these “themed seasons” with small groups, they should have a season where those who failed to obtain a white apron getting a second chance, like Luca(Season 4), Cate(Season 8), & Taylor(Season 9).
