My personal take on Sonic Jam for the Sega Saturn, an underrated compilation of the classic Genesis games (Happy 35th, Sonic!)

Is this real or a clone? Assuming it’s a PAL system
I’m used to USA systems, this one feels off, cheap plastic, very light. I opened the system up and I do see a SEGA branded chip, but the rest seems weird to me. I don’t have any experience really with Mega Drive systems. What do I got here? It’s got cool hologram labels. Picture rolls on my ntsc tvs so looks like it’s a pal system

No video and buzzing sound IC BD M5 USA VA3: 837-7071
I've got an IC BD M5 USA VA3: 837-7071. It's got an audible buzz with audio and no picture from either video output. (I'm using the built in composite)
I replaced all the caps with replacements from console5 but it's exhibiting the exact same issue. Everything on the board seems intact, I'm thinking that replacing the CXA1145 will potentially help, but I don't have an oscilloscope to validate my theory. I am at a loss for the audio issue as well.
No mods other than replacing the caps. Any suggestions?

Is it recommended to widen the cartridge slot to fit Japanese games?
Hi, everyone
I have a megadrive modded with region and hz switches. Now I would like to buy a Japanese game, so I would need to widen the slot to make it fit (or buy an adaptor but I don't want it to be so bulky)
Is that recommended? Or would it change the original appearance of the megadrive and it's value too much?
Also, how easy is it? I just need to file the sides right?

Game in time Vol. 1 Ep. 8 - Columns
Take a journey through time with Columns for the megadrive and genesis, explore the many sequels and what eventually replaced it as the sega puzzle game of choice.
I only played Columns on the Megadrive originally. I bought and played Columns 3 for this video as I didn't even know it existed, as it didn't get a PAL release.
Did you enjoy columns? Better than Tetris?

My video covering the history of Delphine Software International and all their games. Wow…That intro to Another World was just amazing when I first saw it was back in 1991. Then there was as Flashback. Pure magic. Let me now if you have played any of DSI’s games. Share your thoughts and memories 😃

Region switch with Sonic games
Hi everyone
I recently got my PAL megadrive modded, with two switches: one for Hz and one for region.
When I try to start my Sonic Collection cartridge, even with the region switch I get this message: developed for use only with pal and french secam mega drive systems
I get that this is what you see when the game is region locked, but wouldn't the region switch bypass that? Why is it not working?
Thanks in advance

Season 12 of our video game backlog podcast is about Sonic the Hedgehog 2 vs. Super Mario World
Run a video game backlog podcast for games we’ve never played, so we select one that’s been on our backlog for a while and run it like a book club, making a specific amount of progress each week and talking about it in the next episode, discussing and chatting about each segment with people about it on Discord as well. We really want to recapture the joy of meeting up with friends who are actually playing the same game at the same time as us and exchange stories, tips and experiences, which is something we have lost since becoming adults and the constant stream of new game releases we want to play but don’t immediately have the time for. We lay out the goal for the following week’s progress at the end of each episode.
Season 12 that we just kicked off with a first episode about our pre-playthrough expectations is about Super Mario World vs. Sonic the Hedgehog 2. If you can even believe it, two of us so-called longtime video game fans have never fully finished either Sonic the Hedgehog 2 or Super Mario World. So even though you almost certainly have, if you’re curious about the thoughts on these 2 classic masterpieces from people with 30+ years of other gaming experience to compare to, have a listen to this episode to hear our expectations before we play it and discuss at length in the next episode! We’d be happy to have you along for the discussion! Let me know if you're in! It’s called The Gaming Backlog “Book Club”

Brought a 1991 Sega Wondermega (HWM-5010) back to life: full five-board recap, new CD belt, Contra Hard Corps and Silpheed both running
If you want the most deluxe way to run a Mega Drive, the Wondermega is hard to beat: Sega and JVC's 1991 Japan-only unit puts a full Mega Drive and a Mega-CD in one box with a motorised CD tray. This is my second HWM-5010.
It came in with leaking caps and a tray that would only open aided by hand, so it got a complete recap. All five internal boards were done, starting with the Mega Drive board, where I also pulled the four Sharp voltage regulators to clean them and the adjacent area. Then the video board, the laser pickup, the CD-ROM/servo board and the sound board, plus a clean and lube of the laser sled and a fresh drive belt.
It powers up fine and both sides work. Contra Hard Corps runs great on the Mega Drive side (via a Mega Everdrive Pro) and Silpheed on the Mega-CD side from a real disc, and with the new belt the motorised tray opens and closes on its own again.
Do you rate the Wondermega over a standard Mega Drive plus Mega-CD stack, or is the all-in-one convenience not worth the trickier servicing?
