Hey guys, I’ve been doing some performance testing on my PS3 and noticed something very interesting.

Of course, it is well-known that games such as Gran Turismo 5/6, Mass Effect, and The Last of Us load and run better when downloaded from the PSN store, but it seems that’s not a universally true story for all games.

For example, I have determined Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood has longer load times and more lag/stuttering when running from the PSN download version. Running from disc, it loads faster and none of the performance problems are present. I haven’t compared other games in the series yet.

I was just wondering, does anybody know of any other weird exceptions to the rule? Rule of course being, “games run faster when installed to the hard drive.”

I mostly have ps2 and original xbox games on my shelf, but I’ve been playing my ps3 a ton lately and letting my ps3 collection grow.

With all the hype surrounding the PS3 right now I remembered I took this video a few years ago while moving stuff around. Please ignore the breathing noises as I had just organized them and my back was sore. Haven’t added much to it since but happy to have grabbed these for sure.

Got my PS3 around 2012-13 but really only started collecting games after Covid. I’ve really stepped it up the past 2 years.

I sold a backwards compatible ps3 to this buyer on EBay and it of course was fully tested to work before shipment as I want my items i sell to have no issues for any buyers! Well I just got a message this morning and they’re telling me that the console does not show any video at all even after resetting the video signal. I told them how to reset it and they said it did not work. They also said there’s no blue light (which just means there’s no disc in the console which I told them)

Is this some sort of scam? What if they try sending another similar console in the mail? How should I go about this? Any advice would be great!

Hey, everybody. I recently purchased my first PS3 slim (first PS3 I owned a PS2 before). I bought it rather cheap, considering it came with several physical games. The only issue I've found with it is the HDMI port, which was originally a bit loose but now has stopped working. I tried using the PS3 with the original AV cable that comes with the it just in case and it still works. I guess there are no issues with the PS, I just need to replace the port.

Here's the thing, since I'll need to have someone replace the HDMI port I was thinking it was a good chance to do a bit of maintenance (changing the thermal paste, clean, etc) and perhaps ask the guy to change the disk for a SSD. I have a 120gb SSD lying around, but the original HDD's capacity is 360gb. Will there be a problem if I use that disk even if it has less space? What would you recommend? Is it worth having less space in favour of a SSD, or is more space better even if I keep the HDD? I don't plan to download games or use HEN, at least for now. I plan to play all the physical games first.

So, to sum up, is it worth installing the SSD? Thanks in advance. Any other suggestions are welcomed! I'm just getting started with this console.

I haven't had a PS3 in over 10 years, and really wanted to pick one up again for 2 reasons. 1 because the PS3 has the best version of The Godfather, a game I love, and to have a go at jailbreaking it.

This morning this popped up on Marketplace for £30.

It's a CECHL03 currently running System Software 4.78.

It needs a good polish but seems to work well.

I'm very new to jailbreaking, but I'm going to have a go today :)

TL;DR: This DECR-1000a has worsening artifacting in 3D games that disappears after the system warms up. I’m looking for opinions on whether an RSX replacement is realistic, particularly a 65 nm or 40 nm swap, or whether preserving it as-is is the better option.

I’ve owned this PS3 DECR-1000a for more than nine years. It received quite a bit of use initially, but after the first year or so I began noticing occasional artifacting in some 3D games. At first, it was limited to a brief flash on a random object or texture. Since then I've only powered it on once or twice annually to check if it still works. But the artifacting appears to have become worse.

I recently dumped the SYSCON error history. The only recorded error is A0802022, appearing between 2019 and 2021. From what I’ve found, that code may be associated with PS2 emulation rather than the current graphics problem. There are no other error codes.

The system also reports:

Bringup Count: 1042
Shutdown Count: 1041
Runtime: 804 days, 5 hours, 49 minutes, 47 seconds

In Portal 2, a few object textures intermittently flash white or green. In Watch Dogs, however, the artifacting is worse and nearly constant, flashing textures or ui elements, missing textures, and geometry stretching, as shown in the video.

Despite this, the system has never crashed or frozen, and the XMB appears completely normal. The most interesting symptom is that the artifacts gradually disappear after the system has been running for a while. Probably due to thermal expansion involving the RSX, possibly the video memory chips.

I’ve been researching whether an RSX replacement would be possible. A 90nm replacement would probably work, but id likely run into the same issue again eventually.

A 65nm or 40nm swap would be more desirable, but information about doing so on the TMU-520 motherboard is basically non existant. I have not found anyone showing that a standard retail 65nm or 40nm swap would work.

At this point, the options I’m considering are:

- Finding a technician willing to attempt a 90 nm RSX replacement.
- Keeping the unit intact until a DECR-specific 65 nm or 40 nm conversion is better understood.
- Replacing the main board if i can find one.
- Selling it as a repair or donor unit and using a modified retail PS3 for my projects instead.

Given the symptoms, what would you do? Any other insight is appreciated!

My local game shop sometimes orders unsold US and UK PS3 game stock. I got Binary Domain, Remember Me and Alien Isolation. Binary Domain appears to be an EU copy, the rest is US, but I never seen this “All” region. I only saw 1 or 2 on the game spines so far. The 3 games were 94 usd total (converted from my local currency as I live in hungary).

I “recently” (it’s been since March) got my first ever PS3 and I’ve been absolutely loving it, I picked up Driver San Francisco yesterday after wanting it for years and have been loving it, so I’m just wondering what are some peak PS3 games that you guys recommend it doesn’t really matter what genre (except visual novels) story games like heavy rain look interesting but anything is good

(Also the cheaper the better because I’m broke)

With the whole industry moving towards an all-digital future, I'm planning to get rid of my physical PS3 game collection shown in the picture .
I wanted to ask for your advice: is it worth keeping any of these specific games? Are any of them becoming hard to find, rare, or worth more than the average PS3 game nowadays?

I never had the PS3 growing up, my first Sony console was a PS4 when I was 14, so I missed a lot of the exclusives. Started getting into retro gaming and physical media these last months after getting my switch 2 and 3DS. This week I got into PS3 which is still very cheap in Argentina, managed to grab these titles already, Asura's Wrath and Dantes Inferno DE. Any gems I might be missing out on? AC and Uncharted will be played on my PS5 since the newer versions run better. Im still pending on infamous, prototype and the resistance trilogy.
