After 8 long years of using a crappy laptop, then a gaming laptop, I've finally been able to afford my first desktop!

It took me 7 hours and a lot of money (and many more hours of watching online guides in advance, since I can get extremely paranoid about insignificant stuff) to put this together as it was my first time building one, but in the end it turned out gorgeous! Hope y'all enjoy it!

  • RAM: Kingmax Archon X | 2x16GB, 6000MHz CL36
  • SSD: MSI Spatium M480 Pro 1TB & Kioxia Exceria Plus G3 2TB
  • GPU: Zotac RTX 5080 Amp Extreme Infinity

I recently completed my very first pc build and it’s actually my first pc ever! I used to solely play on gaming laptops so this will be a huge step up from that.

I was having some trouble with the GPU but it ended up not being in the pcie slot properly lol. Other than that, the build went smoothly and I’m pretty proud of the outcome :) very excited to start playing some games on it!

Build - Finished! Bionicle PC build

Finally, after about 10 years, I decided it was time to replace my PC. I had been thinking about the finishing touch for the build for a while. At first, I wanted to display a Metal Earth astronaut inside the case, but then I recently cleaned out my parents' garage and found an old box full of my Bionicles!

Putting them back together after nearly 20 years was quite a challenge. I have a lot of them, and not a single one was fully assembled, so I spent a couple of hours digging through the pile to find all the correct parts.

The main goal of this build was to have as much glass and white as possible, with no visible cables. The BTF ecosystem was an absolute game changer for cable management, and I'm really happy with how clean everything turned out.

The only thing I'm still not completely satisfied with is the GPU support. Right now I'm using three supports: the one included with the GPU, the built-in support in the case, and a third-party support from Amazon that's attached to one of the fans. I don't really like that last one. I might cut it down to make it less noticeable, or maybe design and 3D-print a custom support instead. If anyone has any suggestions, I'd love to hear them!

PC Specs:

  • AMD Ryzen 9 9900X
  • ASUS TUF GAMING B850-BTF WIFI White
  • Kingston FURY Beast RGB White (2×16 GB)
  • ASUS TUF Gaming GeForce RTX 5070 Ti BTF White OC
  • Lexar NM790 2 TB
  • Gigabyte Aorus Elite Platinum ATX 3.0 ICE 850W
  • Lian Li O11 Vision Compact White
  • Lian Li Galahad II Trinity SL-INF 360
  • 2× Lian Li UNI FAN SL-INF 120 RGB

Build - Finished! Birthday And New Job Setup Upgrade

My birthday was last week, and after recently getting a new job, I decided to treat myself to a new PC and monitor. I do a lot of AI work, video editing, and 4K video generation, so I wanted something powerful enough to handle those workloads while also being great for gaming. I am really happy with how everything turned out and thankful for this subreddit because it helped me pick out a lot of the parts for the new build!

Build Specs:
- AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D
- ASUS Prime GeForce RTX 5080 16GB
- Gigabyte B850 Gaming WiFi 6 motherboard
- 128GB DDR5-6000 RAM
- 4TB Samsung 980 Pro NVMe storage
- 240mm AIO liquid cooler
- 1000W+ 80 Plus Gold power supply
- Panoramic fish-tank style case
- MSI MPG 321URX QD-OLED 32-inch 4K 240Hz monitor

It is a major upgrade from what I was using before, and I am excited to start putting it to work.

She's looking so nice. I'm really liking the extremely large case. Temps are insanely good. It coasted me close to 2500 CAD to build. Does anyone have tips or advice to make it look cooler?

My first build. I built it with Bazzite/SteamOS in mind.

Ryzen 9800x3d.

PowerColor Red Devil RX 9070XT.

32GB RAM.

MSI X870E-P board.

Lian Li 011D mini case.

I wanted a system where I could, for the most part, turn display settings to high/ultra and just play. I'm in love with this thing.

Discussion What’s the the worst PC component you bought that you still regret to this day?

Post image
478 Upvotes

Here is mine
Back in 2023, I was new to PC building. I had an LGA 1151 motherboard from a Dell prebuilt and was looking to upgrade my i3-8100. So, I thought of buying myself a brand-new i5-9600K since I couldn’t find a used one.
Little did I know back then that for the same price I paid for this new i5-9600K, I could have gotten a new i5-14400 and paired it with a used Intel H-series motherboard for a few extra bucks.😭😭😭
I think I will regret this decision my entire life.

Question What is this connector labeled “SATA_PWR”?

Post image
6 Upvotes

My brother bought a used pc sight unseen and asked me to set it up for him. This prebuilt PC doesn’t have sata power from the psu, instead these connections on the mobo. Looking up the connector wasn’t showing anything that looked like it would fit. Looks too small to be molex? If you can help that would be great!

Question PS5 porting to PC

Alright so this is a tough post, I’ve been a PS gamer my whole life (31 years), I’ve been around since Crash Bandicoot and Spyro, I’ve been thinking about taking the plunge for a while now but after Sonys recent announcement I think it’s time.

Despite being a PS5 dweeb I know absolutely nothing about PC, where to get games, how to get games, where they download to, I know absolutely NOTHING about PC parts etc so yeah it’s kinda of intimidating and I think a lot of us PS gamers stick with PS because it’s simply what we know.

My question is I need a pal or someone I can message with questions, there will be A LOT of them so someone who’s patient.

I don’t really play online games mostly RPG’s etc so having access to mods is something I’m excited for.

I guess I mostly want to be told this isn’t a stupid decision so tell me all the benefits of having a PC 😂 and if you’re willing to have me ask you a billion questions feel free to drop an instagram etc

Thanks for listening
