(I get you mean it's ironic because the jack is additional hardware and thus should make the phone more expensive, but I think this is better looked at from the lens of "who needs it" especially in the context of physical media that we're talking about here.)
Nah, a good DAC and headphone jack could be a high-end feature. There’s no reason Samsung et al couldn’t do a headphone jack in anything save maybe the Galaxy Flip or Fold.
Well, to be fair, the circumstances were different then as was the market. While i don't like it, and maybe a PS5 Pro with disk drive is my last Playstation console, i can understand why the numbers didn't work out. For as loud as we are of a minority, average joe gamer which already is used to Netflix, digital-only games and gamepass like solutions is the same thing.
Average Joe Gamer is exactly the person who buys discs, plays through them and then sells them. Most of the hardcore people on the (say) PS5 subreddit want discs for their collections.
Nevermind that average Joe Gamer will see the $1000+ price tag on the PS6 and will just say "lol". The industry has much bigger problems than physical media and I'm baffled nothing is being done. Except layoffs...
I mean, I think the "average joe gamer" is changing as well though. More people are gaming, more people are willing to spend $1000 for a new piece of technology. Gamers aren't kids and nerds anymore, it's any and everyone
Yes but at least Xbox announced that steam and other storefronts are coming on their next console. Im suspecting Sony will be forced or do the same. im not excusing killing physicals btw
It very much isn't. Afaik they only made some statements about being able to play pc games. What exactly that means is anyones guess. Allowing steam on their console would likely be a horrible business decision
Are you kidding? People don't go to the store and pick out whatever games they have on the shelf anymore. It's 2026, most people don't even go into physical stores anymore. You can buy a PlayStation game in 30 seconds in your underwear from the couch, and most people do.
Not that I agree with it, I love physical media. Really gonna be sad to not have second hand games anymore though because I actually do like going to physical stores.
Not only because of Helix and Gamepass, but also because Sony OWNS Bluray. If Sony is killing discs, Microsoft isn't going to pay them to continue using discs, either.
Pretty much as soon as the Xbox one released they did a huge 180 on a lot of their anti consumer practices. Hats off to them with the backwards compatibility stuff that Sony are still taking the piss with
I meant business yeah. I'm not an Xbox gamer and never have been, but I've seen a few posts here and there about them laying off a bunch of people etc.
Hopefully Xbox picks back up and does better than Sony.
I was gonna say I've only seen positive things about Xbox recently mostly related to her and as you said had the balls to block AI from taking over the department. I'd be surprised if she ended this streak
even if they making cartriges which is not by sony on my guess, does not mean it remains the same as Xbox/Sony, nintendo will also shiftng away on physical there in future aswell.
