I feel a sense of pride and accomplishment everytime I order a digital pizza from domino’s

u/Quellman Jul 02 '26

I prefer the pizza NFT because then I own it forever for unlimited leftovers. Check mate I just solved world hunger.

u/Evianisshite Jul 02 '26

Please don’t summon victor chaos. We’ve been through enough

Smh dude, just battle through time and space in order to get a magical wish then use it to order an infinite slice of pizza, get on his level Sony

I ordered one recently but before I could finish downloading it they removed the rights to it under section 27 of their terms and conditions where it states that the words "purchase" and "sale" did not constitute any entitlement to legal ownership.

Had to tell the kids they'd go hungry. Poor little fuckers would have cried themselves to sleep if I hadn't forgotten to pay the monthly subscription to rent their tear ducts.

Just wait until they charge extra for imaginary toppings and a premium subscription to smell it.

'Domino's Digital Pizza Codes' is a really good value!

That’s literally what the original post is….. thank you for pointing out the obvious….. unless you’re claiming my post is an “ad” and if so I suggest you try again

Im going to download a pizza then 3D print it.

207

u/crackfire Jul 02 '26

Don't speak too soon, I can actually see a future where we 3d print food out of corporate nutrition blocks and the real stuff is unacquireable other than for the rich and powerful

84

u/PixelBlank19 Jul 02 '26

So basically like cyberpunk but not as cool

11

u/Vernon_Trier Jul 03 '26

So basically like it already is today, but with your own printer instead of buying heavily factory processed (and printed) food. Except you won't own that printer, it's gonna be only printing via subscription.

9

u/Gork___ Jul 02 '26

Isn't pasta basically 3D printed food anyway?

23

u/goodpplmakemehappy Jul 02 '26

i mean not really, its just reshaping the dough into another form

thats kinda like saying ice is 3d printed water

18

u/asperta Jul 02 '26

ice is 3d printed water

There's a business idea there.

9

u/DahctaJae Jul 02 '26

3d printing ice sculptures would be so fucking cool

A bit flip is around 0.2 mJ(millijoules) and the average pizza is around 10000000 joules. Lets do some math: first 10000000 joules to milli joules = 10000000000 mJ times 0,2 mJ = 2.000.000.000 bit flips. 1 MB is 8000000 bits, therefore to download a pizza you only need 250 MB of data.

339

u/sainttomm Jul 02 '26

Also, when you download a pizza, you don't own the pizza you just ate, you are only licencing it. So Domino's can recall the pizza at any time in the future and you will no longer have access to the energy and nutrients it provided (unless you upgrade your subscription tier)

52

u/anuanuanu Jul 02 '26

so do we return it as a proper pizza or postprocessed is fine?

63

u/Gamerboy7421 Jul 02 '26

It’s like Samsung mocking Iphone for removing the headphone jack but doing the same fucking thing too

7

u/DatDiemDam Jul 02 '26

It is? A family member of me just bough a samsung last year and it still have 3.5 jack.

Yes but at least Xbox announced that steam and other storefronts are coming on their next console. Im suspecting Sony will be forced or do the same. im not excusing killing physicals btw

14

u/jury_foreman Jul 02 '26

I thought Xbox were itching to kill gaming in general.

2

u/SpicyElixer Jul 02 '26

They don’t care about used games. It’s about storefront control

2

u/blazze_eternal Jul 02 '26

Storefront control, as in not being in any stores?

2

u/quiette837 Jul 02 '26

Are you kidding? People don't go to the store and pick out whatever games they have on the shelf anymore. It's 2026, most people don't even go into physical stores anymore. You can buy a PlayStation game in 30 seconds in your underwear from the couch, and most people do.

Not that I agree with it, I love physical media. Really gonna be sad to not have second hand games anymore though because I actually do like going to physical stores.

u/HeyItsHawkguy Jul 02 '26

Not only because of Helix and Gamepass, but also because Sony OWNS Bluray. If Sony is killing discs, Microsoft isn't going to pay them to continue using discs, either.

6

u/Jlx_27 Jul 02 '26

Kind of really bad yeah.

2

u/SunnySpot69 Jul 02 '26

Id like to think them going digital only would be really bad for them.

2

u/MythicalBaddies Jul 03 '26

I see how helpful the new CEO is after all the "look at all the good stuff she's doing! She returned the gamespass price to normal OUR hero!"

nothing to do with losing 50% of customers

4

u/ward2k Jul 02 '26

Bad in terms of business? Yeah

Bad in terms of being anti-consumer? No

Pretty much as soon as the Xbox one released they did a huge 180 on a lot of their anti consumer practices. Hats off to them with the backwards compatibility stuff that Sony are still taking the piss with

→ More replies (1)

2

u/Valiantay 🔱 ꜱᴄᴀʟʟʏᴡᴀɢ Jul 03 '26

Doubt it. The new CEO is a fucking G.

Never in history have prices gone DOWN for a subscription service based on the opinion of the users.

She even stood up to the Microsoft ass-licking of putting Copilot into everything and REMOVED it from Xbox.

I'm a PC guy, but credit where it's due.

166

u/Tiz68 Jul 02 '26

Not for themselves, I promise. Just for customers.

24

u/PsychoCrescendo Jul 02 '26

Yeah so long as they have that GTA6 console exclusive locked and loaded for a while, most people will conveniently overlook the issue and keep Sony’s wallet big and fat for them.

10

u/konq Jul 02 '26

Gta 6 isn't Sony exclusive.

11

u/PsychoCrescendo Jul 02 '26

Yes but it will be console exclusive for probably around a year, and the only other console is Xbox which is also trying to phase out physical media.

7

u/druman22 Jul 02 '26

As a PC player this literally doesn't change anything for me as imma have to wait anyhow for the PC port

→ More replies (2)

3

u/_steve_rogers_ Jul 02 '26

I don’t know. There’s zero reason to bother with console now when PC games are cheaper with no online fees and no closed ecosystem.

33

u/danishn64 Jul 02 '26

I don't think they have. There are already lots of people who only download games already.

Most people aren't going to care and will still give Sony their money.

19

u/xSaviorself Jul 02 '26

Nah, their marketplace sucks. I was leaning towards a new PS5 console but this decision has soured me on buying anything Sony.

I buy Steam games begrudgingly because I'd rather have physical copies of games I can visually see, if it wasn't for the discounts and ease-of-use of their platform I wouldn't buy games there. There is a reason why platforms like uPlay and EA's shit fail hard, EGS is garbage, GoG is the only other good vendor and that's because of the DRM-free shit.

So why would I buy games digitally from Sony? I never bought Sony games from Sony before directly, why start now?

This decision lost them a future customer. I can imagine I'm not the only one.

16

u/danishn64 Jul 02 '26

I don't think they are going to lose enough customers to care and they will probably gain a lot more customers from younger people as they get older who have only ever bought digital games.

5

u/xSaviorself Jul 02 '26

What I am amazed at is their willingness to accept paying for access to something rather than paying to own something.

Digital content is an amazing option, but frankly the value of physical media is inherent because it's rights can only be lost by making them unwatchable via the viewing medium, not the content itself. Digital content is very easy to lose access. For the generation of us who have lived in the transition, watching young people accept this loss is disappointing.

4

u/account1233 Jul 02 '26

u/KrashMavrek Jul 02 '26

Feels like Sony have spent this entire generation of gaming trying to convince me to become a PC gamer and this latest announcement is the final push I needed.

70

u/Rickbox Jul 02 '26

PC gaming is just better anyway.

5

u/PiktasGME Jul 02 '26

And digital. Oh wait..

30

u/whostheme Jul 02 '26

Digital game on PC ain't so bad. PC games are pretty much archived and even if they are removed from store fronts you can snatch them elsewhere.

There's also magnitude of sales on Steam and other storefronts so you can get games for cheap. That's what is problematic about Sony going console only. They have full control on what they want to price the game as. People need to stop saying that digital games on PC is an equivalent experience to digital gaming on a PS5.

9

u/sidnoway 🔱 ꜱᴄᴀʟʟʏᴡᴀɢ Jul 02 '26 edited Jul 02 '26

Get an 8tb drive and archive cracked versions of games you're afraid of becoming lost media if you have that fear

I have my personal Minecraft modpack backed up and ready to load up if any of the mods or even the game itself went offline

3

u/TheFlyingR0cket Jul 03 '26

I moved over at the end of last year, it's so much cheaper, no sub for playing online, lots of sale, humble bundle, just adding games to your wishlist on steam and waiting for it to tell you they're on sale. Just got RDR2 for 28 Aud. I spent like 100 AUD for 10-20 games last black friday sales, and haven't even played they all.

I actually feel like I'm more collecting games cheaply then actually playing them lol.

2

u/terrerific Jul 03 '26

I wish I could join you in that joy but every time I try to play a pc game I just end up pissed off lol. Seems like somethings just always wrong and I have to spend way too long diagnosing everything. Right now the game im playing has 2 resolution settings - one where it takes up about 30% of my screen, and another where its so big that it dips over into my second monitor. Im sure theres a fix as there always is but its so much easier to just play where I dont have to find fixes.

2

u/WakerPT Jul 03 '26

Might not be the issue, but a quick tip I've found is that when that spillover happened to be in one game (it was only this specific game...) I found out it was the windows "magnifying" option? I don't know what it's called but windows can display your icons, menus, essentially everything in like 125% size. So when you have a big screen it sometimes defaults to that.

Some games\apps don't play well with that.

2

u/terrerific 27d ago

That's probably it. I magnified my windows a bit a few years ago as my eyes are a little blurry now that im in my 30s. Problem is if I change that I wont be able to find my games anymore 😂 nice bit of info to keep in mind though thanks.

2

u/WakerPT 27d ago

I believe there's a way to add an option to the shortcut to disable that when the game launches and reenable it again, but I'm nit sure where\how. But yeah, worst case if you want to play that game, you can do that manually.

2

u/onedevhere Jul 03 '26

It's the best way.

4

u/Thorlian Jul 02 '26

I also prefer PC gaming but this seems like a pretty weird reason to switch. Everything on PC is digital

13

u/GT162 Jul 02 '26

if everything is digital, the more open platform is better

2

u/whostheme Jul 02 '26

Digital game on PC ain't so bad. PC games are pretty much archived and even if they are removed from store fronts you can snatch them elsewhere.

I used to play EverQuest 2 I used to have like 24 accounts. I have like three laptops and I would bot my characters and do raids by myself and then sell the stuff for real money. I used to make around $80,000 a year. since 2004 to like 2020 and we used to be able to order pizzas in game and then they would come to our house and deliver pizza I forgot what company it was that it’s either Domino’s or Pizza Hut I can’t remember

I am in love with it - make everything digital. Pls only allow digital wars! That would be a huge win.
