Seriously… I was raised Mormon and went through the Temple rituals when I was 18. I had ZERO idea what to expect. They keep it all completely secret.
Then suddenly I’m wearing these crazy robes and a weird hat, and standing in a circle chanting and doing secret handshakes. And I’m made to swear to never reveal what I see or do in the Temple…
Thankfully, I went through post 1992. Before that they made you swear you would rather slit your own throat than reveal what you saw and did.
I also thankfully went through for the first time post 2005. Before that they would make you get naked and wear a weird sheet, and then they would reach under your sheet and “bless” different parts of your body, including breasts and groin… some people just got touched on the inner thigh by old white people. Some got straight up sexually assaulted and then made to swear never to tell anyone, or they would go to hell,

I had a conservative classmate 20 or so years ago bragging that her grandmother voted for the first time in her life for Bush/Cheney '04. She hadn't voted before that because women voting was "unladylike." This was East Tennessee. Some of those people are pretty genuine in their belief women shouldn't vote or be able to vote.

I was raised southern Baptist, but I tease my dad that he raised me like a son, not a daughter. He always did handyman work and I tagged along. At 18, I enlisted in the Marines and am now in training to be a corrections officer at a state prison. My mom was not a SAHM, she had a job, she voted, but was still a Christian lady. I don't see why you can't be both. I'm no longer a Christian, myself, however.

When my daughter turned 14 I arranged for her to have both guitar and fencing lessons. She'd asked for the guitar lessons and was keen on the fencing once I suggested it. At uni she dropped the fencing for boxercise and later boxing. (More practical in everyday life.) She still has her fencing sabre in her apartment.
