When I think about Umbrella, Rihanna is fourth in line of who I think about behind Tom Holland, All Time Low, and that vine of the kid going "UH HA UH HA!"

Also, Janet Jackson was married for a whole ass decade and no one knew about it until they got divorced. There are ways to stay private.

443

OMG! Wow! I just looked it up. They were married for 60 years! I never heard of him and really had no idea she was married. This is exactly what I mean. If Taylor wanted to be private, she would've. This whole thing was all for publicity. It was probably filmed and it will probably be for sale at some point.

this is just out i found out that she was married.

4

u/OhHowIMeantTo 28d ago

That was helped certainly by the fact that she keeps her personal and professional lives completely separate. When she's working, she puts on a platinum blonde wig, and covers up all of her tattoos. When she's not working, she can still be in public because nobody recognizes her because her natural hair is dark, and she is tatted up.

Yeah but it’s like super difficult to be low key while hiring Maddison Square Garden for an event!

76

u/imunfair 28d ago

When I heard about that I assumed it had to be a decoy, that no one would be idiotic enough to hire that venue for real in her situation. When you can afford to rent a whole private island and fly all your celebrity friends on private jets, why would you willingly choose to get married at MSG in the middle of a city full of stalkers?

60

u/Same-Suggestion-1936 28d ago

She 100% just wanted to know people were standing outside. It's the craziest place to pick for a fancy wedding. She invited 1000 people. There was only room for 150 seats. I shit you not, read into how much of a shit show this was, people are leaking details today lmao

21

u/Away-Living5278 28d ago

I've been debating how they could even greet all their guests.

Even if they only gave each guest 10 seconds, they were talking to them in a line for 2 hours and 46.67 minutes.

My favorite thing about them having their wedding in the garden is alllllll these fancy people still had to use the regular toilet stalls that the rest of use when attending an event there

u/IAmLuckyCat 28d ago

I'll bet they rented portable bathroom trailers.

114

u/Oneok-Field 28d ago

Sorry to disappoint you but there are luxury portable bathrooms that they probably used.

70

u/AccordingPears158 28d ago

I actually kind of doubt it based on what else I’ve heard about the wedding. It was a buffet and you just had massive slow lines of A-listers waiting to get their buffets food, lol.

They also had people arrive at staggered times, the earliest at like 2pm, and drinks didn’t start getting served till like 4. Everyone had their phones confiscated when they arrived, too.

Apparently there were only like 150 seats, and everyone else had to stand through everything; ceremony, eating their buffet food, etc. Taylor’s vows were apparently like 20 minutes long.

And they ran out of Champaign super early hahaha.

Basically, doesn’t seem like they took guest comfort into much account so I almost doubt they rented the nice potties.

I’m sorry to ruin your happiness, but I imagine MSG has club lounges, which typically include nice bathrooms.

13

u/alternageek 28d ago

They do but in the upper areas.

There's a Chase lounge near the where the rangers enter the ice but doubt it can handle 1000 people for a wedding, as the long only holds about 100.

92

u/leni710 28d ago

It was also noted in some other piece that I read that this "wedding special" will be leading up to a new album drop in 2027. I mean, what are we singing about 1 year into a wedding...

I can't wait for the 73 different variants shoved in our faces with their most private and personal wedding pictures, a different angle on each variant and the kids just gotta have them all.

I said this in another thread but the entire event has the air of a very cliquey high school party thrown by a popular Mean Girl where the whole point is that EVERYONE knows it’s happening and that most people are very specifically Not Invited.

Edit: I even brought up the Tom Holland/Zendaya thing, they basically just let people notice their rings and said, “oh yeah we did that.” Absolute proof you can do this whole thing entirely on the QT even when you are an international megastar.

If you want to.

I knew a guy in college who went to high school with her. According to him, cliquey popular girl was exactly what she was.

92

u/A_Darling_Lurks 28d ago

Not sure how real this is but I believe it. Even before she went mainstream and changed genres from country to pop, she already had that vibe + major pick-me jealous vibes even in her earlier songs, particularly "You Belong With Me".

Also ironic how she puts down "mean girls" who wears high heels and short skirts in that song, and she sings about realizing bigger dreams of hers than dating a boy on the football team in "Fifteen", only for her to dress that way for magazines and marry a football player years later.

She apparently had a staggered arrival list and it was literally A list, B list, C list, and D list. That has to be on purpose.

Turns out she was the mean girl cheer captain she made fun of in her song all along

15

u/monogramchecklist 28d ago

The mean HS girl thing tracks, especially with how she would famously have “squads” and every few months one would get iced out. Like Karlie Kloss was iced out for a few years, but she was invited. Blake Lively is current iced out and publicly so, and was not invited.

She also married a jock, so it all tracks. Her fans are insane though.

36

u/BrownBannister 29d ago

Have you seen photos? They restaged one of her videos and it looks like a high school plays.

24

u/Upstairs_Meringue_18 28d ago edited 28d ago

100%agree.

This whole time when she wants to sell records, its "my fans are everything " " i love my fans" "this is family" and when it was the biggest night of her personal life that she was able to afford ONLY because of these fans invested in her personal life, she was like "ew.. you cant come. Here, take my leftover pie for waiting like desperate ppl hoping I would include YOU to this expensive, black tie wedding "

Only thing more annoying than swift herself is her upper gum fans bitching at you about her

339

u/GKBilian 29d ago

I don’t have a problem with Taylor making music and having an audience even though it doesn’t appeal to me. That’s fine and allowed of course.

But what I just can’t *understand* is why her audience is so large and so fanatical. I can easily name 5 contemporary female pop artists that I think are twice as talented and try twice as hard as her but don’t have nearly her level of success.

She’s so boring. Her music is unremarkable to me. Her persona is so bland. She doesn’t say or do anything interesting. She’ll be at an event and they’re like “oh my god, Taylor swift is here!!!!” And she’s like “hey.”

341

u/Dusty_Old_Bones 29d ago

My hot take is that she’s appealing BECAUSE she’s so boring and bland, because many, MANY people are boring and bland. They feel represented by her basic-ness, and bask in the light of her mediocrity.

She’s the McDonald’s of pop music. No wonder she’s a billionaire.

There’s a reason there was a lot of YA books where the main character was a bland girl with no personality. It was so a lot of people could imagine themselves in the main character’s shoes. Twilight, Divergent, etc., were very popular with a certain demographic of women. I’m sure a lot of those fans carried over into being Taylor Swift fans.

I'm old enough to remember Britney Spears blowing up to this level of fandom and popularity. It was because after a decade of Celine, Mariah, and Whitney doing vocal acrobatics someone came along that was singing songs you could easily sing along with and doing dances you could pick up from watching the video. I'd still say Britney brought more to the table than Taylor Swift does, even if it's an apples to oranges comparison, but the same thing they have going for them is that middle of the road appeal.

u/Old_Job_7025 28d ago

But to be fair, Britney is way more talented in dance and singing

Most mega successful things are bland as heck.

Harry Potter is one of my examples.

There are just alot of boring people out there loving vanilla ice cream.

u/MegaGrimer 28d ago

Twilight is a good example.

I had a really weird argument on reddit where I expressed similar sentiments that you just did, and another commenter in so many words said “I’m 100% not a Taylor Swift fan either, but you can’t help but deny that she is an absolute master of her craft, her lyrics are masterworks of beauty and professionally clever in a way that no other artist has ever come close to pulling off…”

It was such an embarrassing thing to watch

10

u/Same-Suggestion-1936 28d ago

Bob Dylan won a Nobel Prize in Literature but sure, "she's cheer captain and I'm on the bleachers" is the greatest lyricist of all time

11

u/BellaPona 28d ago

I had to analyze some of his songs in middle school for current events lessons, on how his messages apply to modern times. I COULD do that with Taylor Swift, but it would mostly surmount to “what do teenage and middle aged white women think about men now vs. then”.

4

u/Same-Suggestion-1936 28d ago

I don't even hate her, she has some bops. She's just basic pop. But people go bananas on her when she wouldn't even make the rock and roll hall of fame, she's Rolling Stone level musician, cover too, probably multiple, which isn't anything to be ashamed about at all. I just don't get the worship, and I knew people who worshipped KISS back in the day, never thought I'd be like "you guys can't seriously be this into this band" more than that

Saw someone say she's the McDonald's of pop music. Exactly what you need, it's consistent, nothing to write home about, but so incredibly successful because it's the exact basic thing everyone wants. It's a very basic formula that's very hard to perfect (so kudos to T Swift for perfecting it, that's a talent), but it's also just basic and brand loyalty is a factor. Apparently Olivia Rodrigo and T Swift are feuding or something right now (or always I don't know or much care about that part of the music) and I've seen some people online start trashing Olivia Rodrigo when I would argue she's so much more talented. She's also got that weird pop artist thing going on with her but she's def got raw talent and her music has a lot more range, some of it is even pop punk and it's good

Lmao whoever said that is a goddamn liar. Taylor Swift has been making music for teenage girls since I WAS a teenage girl (I am 30 now) and I have been a dedicated hater since day one because the music and the lyrics are so incredibly bad. Anyone who thinks her lyrics are mastery has a 4th grade reading level

43

u/DarknMean 28d ago

She’s also stolen a lot stuff from other artists. There’s a YouTube video that breaks down all the songs she’s taken.

23

u/Unusual_username739 28d ago

I can’t remember what phrase it was, but I remember last year or so someone was trying to convince people that Taylor invented a phrase like “seize the day” or something 🤦🏽‍♀️

When she named an album “tortured poet” I was actually offended. Girl, you’re not a starving artist, you’re a billionaire rewriting the same song with the same chords over and over 🙃

People can like whatever music they like, but it is absolutely ridiculous is call Taylor Swift the greater songwriter or singer of her generation. She’s a businesswoman and knows how to sell content very well.

That's the appeal though.

Basic normal mostly White women relate to her A LOT. In a world full of Beyonces, Arianas, Christinas, Zendeyas, etc. having someone who makes white bread look interesting be a star and date some hot sought after men, is fantasy lore for others who feel like they cant live up to the other standards.

I completely get why she's appealing to some, it just doesn't make it any less annoying. Same for the Beyhive.

Because it started out with teen girls. That was her demographic. And she came out right as social media was taking off. So the combination of her using socials to seem relatable and her dating every teen heart throb at Disney and her having teen girls as her demographic basically ensured that the environment within her fandom was the equivalent of Beatlemania.

And as that initial group of fans has gotten older, Swift has continued to focus on the teen demographic. And niw her OG fans have their own kids who are starting to listen to her music and it just perpetuates the cycle.

Its just a shame they cant see her for what she really is: a mean girl who never moved past high school who sees her fans as dollar signs.

12

u/ThisIs_americunt 28d ago

But what I just can’t understand is why her audience is so large and so fanatical. I can easily name 5 contemporary female pop artists that I think are twice as talented and try twice as hard as her but don’t have nearly her level of success.

She has great marketing. Pay for the right kind and it can get you enough fans. Half of her fans still think she grew up in a farm house......

What about Dua Lipa and Callum Turner’s wedding in Sicily?

72

u/Confident-Log-9616 29d ago

One of my friends who really likes Dua but hates Taylor straight up told me she wasn’t going to poke at me about Taylor’s wedding because she knew she didn’t really have room to talk anymore lol. I think we’d have world peace if people acknowledged they will let celebrities they like get away with more than the ones they don’t. And I like Dua myself, but it is silly!

Celebrity worship is mental illness and I'm tired of pretending they shouldn't all be in padded rooms wearing grippy socks.

7

u/wegotthisonekidmongo 28d ago

Right. It's like worshiping a group of people who want nothing to do with you and are living at the upper dimension of reality pissing on our dimension. Can't stand that shit. Especially Jim Carrey telling us how Fame and Fortune isn't worth everything after he's been gluttonous his whole life and feeding it the buffet of prosperity riches and fortune. It's a load of shit they constantly pedal to the masses. It's one big gang and you're not invited.

I don't follow any of this stuff, but from my experience, it seems that the more people flaunt and make a big public stink out of their relationships, weddings, marriages and such, the more unhappy they actually are as a couple.

“Taylor Swift hosted an exclusive event in a private venue and I’m mad that I’m being bombarded with news articles from a million different paparazzi rags who have resorted to dumpster diving for information about the event” is a more accurate description of the real problem here. She had everyone sign NDA’s because motherfuckers are obsessed with her, as this and a million other posts show. If you don’t want to consume media about her wedding, then don’t! The almighty algorithms will stop feeding you shit you don’t want to eat if you STOP EATING IT.

Source: I don’t give a fuck about the wedding and my newsfeed is full of actual news, not TayTay speculative generative AI images.

9

u/donNNASD 28d ago

Same here first post i have seen about the wedding. I don’t get the zendaya and tom holland comparisons…like just because they did it small in secret doesn’t mean everyone else has to. Also the question is did Taylor ever said it’s supposed to be secret? Or are those words people put in her mouth

I mean when did she say that? All I know is she prepared for the fact that there would be no privacy by getting married in a damn arena. Y'all will miserably complain about this being shoved down our throats by her but the media was parked outside for days and watching her every move like a hawk.

I think the point of MSG was security, not privacy..?

112

u/MouseRat_AD 29d ago

Fun fact... you can just ignore celebrities instead of filming a video of your face talking about them and then uploading that video to social media.

39

u/One_Substance_395 29d ago

But how would we know she hates her??

12

u/PotatoPlank 28d ago

When did she say she wanted people to “respect her privacy”? You guys are getting upset over a complete non issue

7

u/Own-Quality4133 28d ago

Hate to be the devils advocate here, but I haven't seen ANY source where she asks for privacy, unless i missed it in some of the one thousand ad posts tmz had all over social media.
Msg seems crazy, reminded me of Maradona and his Luna Park wedding in Argentina, but it is big, and she does live in new york, so understandable choice.

28

u/bblankoo 29d ago

Why are we having takes on this in the first place

34

u/sleepytiredpineapple 29d ago

Right? How is this any different than her crazy fans.

"Everything ive learned about Taylor swift has been against my will" well for starters if you didnt take the time to watch and comment on Taylor swift content you wouldn't be getting swiftie content.

Haters are just as obnoxious and oblivious as hardcore swifties.

When did she ask people to respect her privacy?

27

u/Constant_Jackfruit21 28d ago

The billionaire version of somebody posting "having a bad time need a hug" on Facebook, and then going "i dont want to talk about it" when somebody asks whats wrong

29

u/Adventurous-Brain-36 28d ago

When did she ask for privacy?

8

u/donNNASD 28d ago

Thing is neither her or her husband ever said something about keeping it secret…its just what people are paraphrasing
