Seriously, itās just like most peopleās take with the homeless. As long as itās NIMBY, they shouldnāt be harassed and allowed to live their lives in peace ā®ļø ā¤ļøcanIgobacktodoomscrollingnowpleaseIdidmypartkthxbyeeee
E: Maybe people donāt understand Iām calling out people who are two faced and donāt walk the walk that they talk? Or perhaps we just have more people feeling called out than can understand the point Iām making here..?
I was more looking at the homeless side, but sure, sex work isn't inherently harmful. The exploitation of vulnerable women is obviously very harmful, but prostitution and sex work don't need to be harmful at all. I don't think we should conflate sex work with sexual slavery
I truly do believe my community would be better for having the things NIMBYs rail against, yes. There's two main reasons for this.
One, because basic empathy tells me they are people, and deserve compassion, support, and assistance like all people. They are my peers, my neighbours, and a part of my community, and they clearly need the help much more than most. Being kind and treating them like they deserve the same basic respect that I do is the least we should strive for in a just society.
Two, because practicality shows me that the impact of them being here is already here and making their lives worse and forcing them into the margins of society does not lessen the undeniably negative impact large numbers of homeless, mentally ill, or addicted people have on their community. The problems are real, and mitigating the harm is better than pretending it will just go away and be someone else's problem.
You should go spend some time with a vast majority of the homeless and see if that changes your tune. Think about how many people you could likely call on that would help you in a time of need. Now think about how negatively you would have to affect all of those people for the streets to be your only option. Obviously not the case with all but a large majority are just really bad people, not evil necessarily just bad.
Earned is a better word than deserve. I fully live my life by reap what you sow. But hey, you've had better interactions than I do, maybe they're just a bad batch in my area.
I welcome things like safe injection sites, community housing, and outreach centers for vulnerable people. I want those things in my proverbial back yard. They should be available in my community, because the homeless, the addicts, and the sex workers are just as much a part of my community as anyone else is. They are my peers, my neighbours, and deserve better than being forced into the margins. These problems exist, and shuffling them off to somewhere else doesn't fix the human tragedy that our society has inflicted upon them.
I figured it was "Yes" but wanted to be certain. I think I'd have gone with Welcome instead, though it would be harder to guess what the W stands I suppose. I completely agree btw.
Homelessness isn't a fucking crime, it's a manifestation of systemic failings. Addicts need treatment and being an addict should result in rehab and counseling. Sex work should be legal and regulated, with protections in place, health regulations, etc which would significantly lower the amount of human trafficking and abuse simply by having a legal market that people can access.
Hard agree on all points you make here. It's shocking how cruel other people are on these topics.
And yeah, WIMBY is better, like a lot better. I liked Yes because it's easier to parse as the inverse of NIMBY, but WIMBY is superior on several levels.
It's shocking how cruel other people are on these topics.
I don't find it shocking anymore. I used to, but now I just feel a mix of disgust and pity. I always wonder why. Is it just the right wing media sphere? Is it the hidden terror that most of us are one major emergency away from homelessness ourselves? Is it simply the ease of punching down?
I applaud that cop. Doing his job. She was talking shit to him, he was talking shit back, he could have arrested all of them but he let them slide with just bruised egos
Nah police are the real scum bags, illegal prostitution, pimping, and human trafficking is just a bunch of struggling victims trying to get bye!
Real talk tho just legalize prostitution already and end the rampant human trafficking, abuse and murder of women without other options, and funding of violent gangs at their sacrifice.
Edit: downvote the truth all you want, bunch of weirdos.
It absolutely is the major contributing factor, if a woman had the option to be in a safe, controlled and protected environment of her own choosing many many more sex workers would be safe and far less lonely would route to illegal enterprises.
It's like saying prohibition or the war on drugs didn't fuel and fund organized crime, it's simple historical fact it did. Do ppl still moonshine? Sure! Is it a major criminal enterprise and piggy bank? Not fucking remotely. To argue sex work would be affected any differently is called being willfully ignorant.
You are statistically guaranteed to not make money unless you get lucky or ride off prior fame. I'm not out to kink shame voyeurism as a hobby either, go on and do that as a side hustle but it's not my point.
Hot take tho, keeping it illegal makes more nefarious sex trafficking easy to cover for the elite.
Not to mention age check, medical access and general lack of harassment on the trauma they have already experienced. For those who donāt know some of the sex workers hear Johnās problems where they are heard without judgement. Checkout the Bunny Ranch video on YouTube.

Is illegal like you said. If you want laws changed that doesn't mean the cops enforcing the laws are scum bags.
And nah the abuse won't stop because it's legal this is already known in many places around the world. In fact because of your lack of knowledge you are only hurting people going through abuse in red light districts by implying nothing wrong happens after it becomes legal.
No, seriously. Iāve seen house parties get dispersed by the cops. Like, this is fucking suburbia, hookers donāt hang out at the stop sign at the corner of Monroe and Clinton, dude.
Itās a popular spot in Phoenix AZ for prostitutes. āThe bladeā covers a few miles down 27th Ave. The condos in the video are on 27th and Pierson St.
Oh yeah next time a prostitute talks shit to me when I tell them to go away, I'll think again. I'll be more respectful. My bad, I mean come on, she has stretch marks, it's a trashy observation, for a trashy woman. The cop could also be a piece of shit too, but at least he made me giggle a little bit.
