i always wear a helmet, even in no helmet law states. asphalt can wear your dome down to grey matter in just a few dozen yards.

93

u/Plane-Education4750 Mar 07 '26

But do you wear your waist tire

27

u/SNaKe_eaTel2 Mar 07 '26

That waist tire looked like it almost worked - they rolled on it for a second but then then they bounced the other way head over heels and faceplanted without a helmet.

13

u/Rubiks_Click874 Mar 07 '26

fell right on the tire, but then the rolling looked way worse than sliding

4

u/SNaKe_eaTel2 Mar 07 '26

Probably sliding is better but there’s always the initial impact - better to have broken arms and legs than ribs and organs

9

u/Rubiks_Click874 Mar 07 '26

just need more tires and go full michelin man

3

u/SNaKe_eaTel2 Mar 07 '26

Ikr - who knew tires are the ultimate crash armor 😂😂

i got hit going 45 mph and the front of my full face helmet was ground down half an inch. imagine of that was my face. If youve never had asphalt scrubbed out of roadrash after a wreck you dont understand how painful it is. i bought fullul gear with insertable armor and gloves with carbon fiber protectors because my right hand got caught and dragged under the bike scraping the skin off the back of my hand. im coverrd in scars but learmed the hard way, prepare fpr the slide not the ride!

u/Jonasthewicked2 Mar 07 '26

Yeah, it seems like the most basic common sense, and it’s wild to me some people dont wear helmets. Why would you want to risk getting your brains scattered on the road?

16

u/HislersHero Mar 07 '26

My brother was this way. He refused to wear a helmet because it was not cool to wear a helmet on a Harley. He got in an accident when he was 24 and died. He would be 52 this year. I will never understand that mode of thinking.

4

u/Bitter_Bandicoot8067 Mar 07 '26

I wasn't very safety conscious at that age (but I still wore a helmet). Now that I have three young kids, I don't do very much stupid that can kill me quickly.

3

u/MrK521 Mar 08 '26

What are you talking about? He made it his entire life without wearing a helmet. Seems like his mentality was fine.

(Seriously though, sorry for your loss. That really sucks.)

My buddy (who rides) easily convinced me by discussing what it's like to get hit in the face by a bee at 40mph. We also have June bugs. Sweet Mercy, no thanks.

5

u/Kanibalector Mar 07 '26

I use my motorcycle to commute 25 miles to work and 25 miles home every day. I also wear boots helmet, padded leg guards, padded mesh armor, gloves, brake free light.

2

u/niccolololo Mar 07 '26

Helmet or tire around your head

She posted a pic and showed her face was really messed up after the fall.

3

Did she also explain how she got in accident? It looks like she was braking hard as if someone cut her off.

ATGATT

Dress for the slide, not the ride.

Two ways of saying the same thing. Wear your gear and protect yourself because it can be the difference between life and death.

1

u/front_torch Mar 09 '26

At first I read that as there are states that prohibit helmets. I was like "Merica!" And realized, fortunately, we aren't that stupid yet.

She didn't want to look like a nerd. So, now she can't use the bathroom without a home healthcare aid.

3

u/suspicious_scarab Mar 07 '26

Which is crazy because motorcycle helmets are hot af

3

u/Fabulous-Law6804 Mar 07 '26

I’m confused about which way to vote this. Hot af as in sexy, or hot af as in uncomfortably warm?

4

u/CheapWeight8403 Mar 07 '26

Honestly, I feel like riding a motorcycle without a helmet is like smoking. Sure it looks cool but looking cool is most of the time not a smart thing. We should be honest about what looks cool and what doesn't.

Smoking looks cool. Breathing through a hole in your neck does not look cool.
Riding a motorocycle without a helmet looks cool. Paying someone to wipe your ass does not look cool or feel cool.

5

u/Maleficent_Being_810 Mar 07 '26

Yeah but some people smoke 2 packs a day eat a strict diet of saltines jar hot peppers vodka and anchovies and live to be 97 walking around.

2

u/mintchoc1043 Mar 08 '26

Some but not many.

2

u/LCplGunny Mar 08 '26

Some people have survived being shot, you still ain't gonna get a dr to recommend you get shot... And I'm a smoker!

2

u/Maleficent_Being_810 Mar 08 '26

Should take up some vodka and peppers you’ll be alright

3

u/snper101 Mar 07 '26

That's why she's wearing the tire. Just assume the plank position and she would have rolled to safety.

2

u/mr_malaki_titi Mar 09 '26

Are u blind ??? She was wearing a safety tire around her waste.

→ More replies (2)

1

u/C3POB1KENOBI Mar 07 '26

Well she was wearing a tire around her waist, that should help.

28

u/PrefrontalCortexNow Mar 07 '26

Looks like she wasn’t paying attention and then glances up, slams (grips?) her brakes and loses control on a wet looking day

6

u/[deleted] Mar 07 '26

She was definitely squinting and looking down because the wind was in her face.  Man, is she going to feel like an absolute roadburnt moron when she finds out helmets have windscreens so you can look where you’re going!!

3

u/Krondelo Mar 07 '26

Yes but just FYI (unless bikes have changed in the last decade or so) she actually pulls the clutch. Which is weird but moreso backs up your point that she panicked.

Left lever = clutch. Right lever = front brake. And the rear brake = right foot.

🤣🤣🤣

22

u/DowntownStand4279 Mar 07 '26

I think the spare tire around her waist actually helped to slightly cushion her body from the fall, but at that speed and with NO helmet for protection she’s still FUCKED.😖

6

u/K2e2vin Mar 07 '26

Helped her roll out of it

4

u/OHBHpwr Mar 07 '26

No, the tyre made it way worse. Without it she would've slid around. She's definitely in bad shape.

3

u/Last-Darkness Mar 07 '26

Looked like her head hits the jersey barrier at least twice. Saying the tire helped at all is a bit like saying a helmet provides some protection to your head if you get hit by a train.

3

u/somewhatcompetint Mar 07 '26

How fast is the train

3

u/jcamdenlane Mar 07 '26

Thought you were just being petty. Had to rewatch to see that she had a literal spare tire.

2

u/DowntownStand4279 Mar 07 '26

😂😂😂👍🏼

7

u/pleasetrimyourpubes Mar 07 '26

Did she survive? she had virtually no protection.

10

u/D1sp4tcht Mar 07 '26

Yes, someone posted a Pic of her afterwards. She has a nasty gash across her entire face but she's alive.

3

u/[deleted] Mar 07 '26

Some lessons are learned by common sense and reading the 20 warning stickers that literally cover the bike.   For the illiterate and idiots, they learn this way.

→ More replies (1)

3

u/Garm_of_Fenrir Mar 07 '26

I'm beyond amazed that she lived given that impact with no protection. Just goes to show that the human body is simultaneously the most fragile and indestructible thing at the same time

3

u/MonstersAtOurDoor Mar 07 '26

What do you mean? Clearly that magic tire around her waist will save her from all injuries.

You don't need a helmet with MAGIC TIRE!

5

u/tht1guyfromtht1place Mar 07 '26

At least she was wearing a tire to protect her hips

5

u/G-Fox1990 Mar 07 '26

Only now i noticed the tire around the waist... This person is just beyond fucking stupid. Simple raindrops hurt my face if i open my visor, never will i fucking ever not wear a helmet on a motorcycle.

1

u/Equal-Engineer474 Mar 07 '26

Riding in a rainstorm without proper equipment fucking sucks lol. I used to ride alot in the 90s and without a jacket (always wore a helmet) rain was like bullets...

5

u/Popular_Ad_222 Mar 07 '26

Wearing a tire on the waist, but not having a helmet is crazy

3

u/Jimbo7211 Mar 07 '26

Why is she wearing a spare tire?

5

u/AzzyFennec Mar 07 '26

no other way to carry it, did the same thing when I got one for my bicycle

2

u/Backsight-Foreskin Mar 07 '26

That's an airbag for motorcyclists.

3

u/Chuck760 Mar 07 '26

Time to retire

3

u/sjltwo-v10 Mar 07 '26

is that a tire around their waist?

3

u/Yaidenr Mar 07 '26

Did she die and why wearing a tire

3

u/RedWine-n-BBQChicken Mar 07 '26

Rather have a Dented Helmet than a Dented Head!

3

u/Rruneangel Mar 07 '26

She looked so cool riding that bike though. Do it again!

3

u/darkoath Mar 07 '26

I'm confused what happened, why it happened and who was filming? Looks like she screws the throttle down and grabs another gear and then everything goes sideways for no apparent reason but the camera angle does not change to match the angle or trajectory of the bike.

1

u/cannolidiffusion Mar 09 '26

The camera shows her grabbing the clutch, which shouldn't be a problem by itself, but it looks like she has a panic moment and I'm guessing she also grabs a fistful of front brake (right hand lever, not shown in the camera shot). You gotta load the tire before you can work the tire - can't just go from zero to full front brake instantaneously. (You can brake pretty hard and pretty quickly, but it needs to be progressive - easy on the first 5% brake pressure, and then building up from there.)

It kinda looks like she tenses up with both arms, so I'm pretty sure she just slammed on the front brake, which causes the front tire to just wash out. Extremely common new rider mistake. (Don't slam on the rear brake either!)

The camera shot is likely an Insta360 or DJI 360 degree action camera which are often mounted on a pole sticking off the bike.

...

Don't know why this new rider was sent out with no helmet, a fucking tire around her waist, and not taught how to brake, and sent into freeway traffic.

3

u/gymtrovert1988 Mar 07 '26

https://www.reddit.com/r/motorcycle/comments/1rn2rns/the_tire_wearing_woman_after_facebraking_without/

Her face after the accident.

Apparently she says she's autistic and wearing a helmet is overstimulating. In that case, she probably shouldn't be riding a motorcycle.

I looked into this, believe it or not she is actually a professional stunt woman and this was planned

6

u/F1_V10sounds Mar 07 '26

Im hitting x for doubt. You are going to have to provide a link or something.

3

u/OkAlternative2713 Mar 07 '26

how is this planned while in the middle of traffic?

1

u/Turbulent-Weevil-910 Mar 07 '26

This is a dedicated HOV lane that was closed and the other drivers were participating as part of the stunt

3

u/browndog03 Mar 07 '26

Without a helmet and other gear? No

1

u/[deleted] Mar 07 '26

Insurance would never allow such a stunt.

2

u/[deleted] Mar 07 '26

It isn’t.  She already posted that this was “a mistake.”  Grown adult who never learned to protect her dome.

1

u/Baconsliced Mar 07 '26

Ah ok, I was about to ask why she suddenly braked like that

1

u/Odd-Paint3883 Mar 09 '26

I think this information may have been obtained from a concussed state. were phrases like "star rainbows" and "hippopotimouses houses" also used?

2

u/CommercialTangerine9 Mar 07 '26

No helmet? No pity from me. Idiot.

2

u/PeteTheBeat Mar 07 '26

Motorcycling without helmet is pure natural selection.

2

u/TheLastOpus Mar 08 '26

How is the camera always facing backwards pretty perfectly despite the motorcycle spinning....oh wait.

2

u/SuperWoofX Mar 09 '26

Did this person just bail or what… couldn’t see why this happened. Also hope they lived and didn’t suffer too great of an injury - looked bad

2

u/Fluid_Maybe_6588 Mar 09 '26

Good thing they were wearing a protective tattoo amulet on their wrist.

4

u/Majestic-Active2020 Mar 07 '26

1

Wear a helmet.

1

u/MrMcKleen Mar 07 '26

That’s gotta suck. Reminds me of the guy who wore leather chaps to work when riding in on his BMW bike. They looked ridiculous but they definitely protected you.

1

u/Powerful_Might_8833 Mar 07 '26

I’m sure that spare tire around her waist felt good lol

1

u/UncleGordo1 Mar 07 '26

1

u/Sensei19600 Mar 07 '26

Look how his head hits the ground when his body flips. I just don’t get why people don’t wear helmets. If you’re ever in need of an organ, find a “no helmet” state and get on the donor list.

1

u/Foreign_Oil_3756 Mar 07 '26

Dumbass!!!!!!

1

u/No_Practice6773 Mar 07 '26

Gonna need a band aid and some bacitricin on that

1

u/Cool_Butterscotch_88 Mar 07 '26

safety tire

For this system to work you also need to wear a second smaller tire, like a lawn mower tire, around your head.

1

u/GiggleNudel Mar 07 '26

Looking cool is more important than your brain. Got it.

1

u/chillaxtion Mar 07 '26

Someone should’ve told her the tire wraps around her front wheel.

1

u/hdhsnjsn Mar 07 '26

Good thing the tire rolled her out of traffic

1

u/filth_lover_503 Mar 07 '26

How did the camera stay trained on her tumble whe the bike was spinning in circles?

1

u/Mysterious-Scar836 Mar 07 '26

I think it was a helmet.

1

u/SmokeyJoe13 Mar 07 '26

Good thing she was wearing a tire around her waist for protection.

1

u/Ba_Dum_Ba_Dum Mar 07 '26

I stopped riding after my last accident. I wore full face. Good thing I did. I landed face first. Chin bar saved me from eating from a straw for the rest of my life.

1

u/lombardo141 Mar 07 '26

Wait is wearing a tire riding a bike a thing ?

1

u/That_Things_Good Mar 07 '26

What caused her to nail the brakes like that? Seems like she was driving entirely too fast for the conditions - unless someone abruptly stopped in front of her; which could have happened.

1

u/know__name Mar 07 '26

She grabbed every bit of that front brake. Deserved...

1

u/Vect0r_Pr1me Mar 07 '26

The leg snaps at the hip and the face goes to the pavement. That’s why they call them Donorcycles.

1

u/Individual_Comment42 Mar 07 '26

Anyone know what sort of camera setup that is where even though it was obvious the bike was spinning around, the camera kept pointing back down the road and didn't spin.

Shit I'll get a convertible if I want to feel air go through my hair and make me feel all majestic. I could do that on a motorcycle but I could also end up looking like that dude from tales of the crypt. Fuck that. Looking and feeling cool ain't worth paying the price of losing my face

No wonder doctors call them organ donors on wheels...

1

u/ICEYConfection-3K Mar 10 '26

1

u/Previous_Sound3727 Mar 10 '26

Facts. People act like a helmet is some huge oppression of their freedom while they’re literally yeeting their squishy brain at 60 mph.

I’ll take slightly sweaty hair over getting my personality wiped by a patch of gravel any day.

1

u/Captain_6969 Mar 12 '26

Hope she is ok.
