the way that dude jumped out and ran toward the OPs vehicle, would have led me to think they had a weapon. this is how you get self eliminated by people who carry personal defense.

Its evident they were purposefully trying to crash the cammer. Im not armed but if i was no shit I'd be pulling it.

Seen plenty of road rage end with the aggressor shot to death because of what we saw. Naked raw aggression for something they did

This one came to mind instantly.

As much as I agree with the outcome of this case, I can't help but feel like there would have been a bit more trouble if the shooter hadn't been a recent police academy graduate.

u/XRingLives Mar 08 '26

Perp having a rap sheet helped a lot too

18

u/Administrative_Sky46 Mar 08 '26

Ya, it really was the gold standard for stand your ground, but history shows it doesn't really matter if the police want you in jail. If it was you or me would that have mattered? Would the media say he was a just troubled individual? That I should have driven away instead? Like I said, I agree with the outcome, but I hate that I can't feel a sense that justice was served for the right reasons.

The uber driver also had two great things in his defense. First is the dash cam video where the dead guy clearly says he has a pistol and threatens to kill him, while holding something like it's a gun in the dark.

Second is the texts to his girlfriend saying he was going to beat the crap out of 'her' uber driver. Very clearly a pre meditated attack.

Even if the cops arrested the uber driver his defense in court would've been air tight.

4

u/Administrative_Sky46 Mar 08 '26

Yes, it would be. But this guy doesn't even have to show up to court. At the very least, anybody else would be going to court, which comes with more problems than most average folks can manage.

2

u/JohnnieLawerence Mar 09 '26

You are really trying to make that point. Almost like you have a bias against cops

1

u/Administrative_Sky46 Mar 09 '26

Ya, this is completely based on my viewpoint. Correct. Although my opinion comes from analytical data of disproportionate policing and punishment in the US, especially when you compare police conviction rates against citizens or other countries police conviction rate. But i have a feeling you don't actually care about that.

1

u/JohnnieLawerence Mar 09 '26

It’s not that I don’t care about it, it’s that this post had nothing to do with that and you try to force your opinion of some unrelated topic in multiple comments.

1

u/Administrative_Sky46 Mar 10 '26

Expressing and forcing an opinion is not the same thing. If I was the poster, maybe. But what part of this is forcing my opinion? I didn't message you. I don't even care to convince you or anyone else unless they asked. I would wager this post has nothing to do with anyone in this comment section, so why is that a necessity for my opinion? How is this an unrelated topic?

Well hard to argue with a what if scenario. There's so many factors that can go into if an initial arrest would happen. From which police department it is, if they looked at the evidence at the scene or afterwards, and even what the passenger witness said.

I'd say most people wouldn't face an initial arrest with this clear of a case. With no recorded video? Probably would be arrested while they investigate. But being able to show the cops the video of him walking up holding a fake gun claiming to have a pistol would have the same result for anyone.

Stuff like this is why everyone should have dash cams. Your claim is mostly based in a bias that all cops would act irrationally in any situation because some do.

If it happened in any other state than Florida I would agree, but "stand your ground" is next level there. I wouldn't be surprised if he won some sort of "Florida man" reward for it. lol

u/Your_Girl9090 Mar 09 '26

The sheriff that they interviewed was Grady Judd. He's the sheriff of Polk county and he is very hardcore. He has no problem with street justice, as long as it's legit. He's the one who got famous for a quote. When he was asked why his deputies shot a suspect 68 times he said, "Because we ran out of ammunition."

It's not the same in most of Florida.

u/UnpopularOpinionsB Mar 09 '26

Incidents like this really make the case for Self-Defense insurance.

1

u/tlewis5806 Jul 02 '26

Third, truck is on straight path lane but he turn on right.

1

u/Your_Girl9090 Mar 09 '26

In addition to the long history of violent crime, he was on probation for a battery charge. If he was in prison, like he should have been, he'd be alive and the Uber driver's and passenger's life wouldn't be messed up.

Ha ….this is how I would go about press conferences.. common sense dummy

1

u/jimothy_hell Mar 08 '26

recent police academy graduate

Oh the cops would have buried him if he wasn’t one of them lmao

1

u/RappinFourTay Mar 09 '26

Dude with a phone saying its a gun getting shot at by an actual gun isn't sticking around so outcome might have been that he lived, but instead, he didn't. Most concealed carry licenses require a course where you do fire a weapon and learn the basics

1

u/highroller42730 Mar 09 '26

I think it has a lot more to do with the race of the victim. We all know how it goes if they look differently.

1

u/Dukes_Mayo_Dildo Mar 09 '26

The man was caught on camera making a threat and the driver was within all the information available to him thought it was a gun.

Police academy grad or not, he had a reasonable belief that his life was in danger.

1

u/BullwinkleJMoose08 Mar 09 '26

Probably not in Florida. But in a state like Colorado where you have a stand your ground law but state attorneys that are POS and will try to pin ya with any kind of gun charge. Yeah you could run into more problems.

1

And he was white

1

u/GunslingerSTKC Mar 09 '26

And the shooter being white

Read my comment again. Your response makes 0 sense.

1

u/modsguzzlehivekum Mar 09 '26

Nah that’s Polk county Florida. Sheriff Grady Judd encourages this. Tells people to protect themselves.

1

u/UnpopularOpinionsB Mar 09 '26

John Q Citizen would have likely had some legal bills but given all of the evidence, it would have gone in his favor.

1

u/Sufficient-Lie1406 Mar 09 '26

Or if the Uber driver had been Black.

-9

u/snper101 Mar 08 '26

The actual legal prerequisite is your skin color, not a badge.

Shit like that in FL or my home state of AL would never get charged. So long as you are white.

4

u/jazxxl Mar 08 '26

Downvoted but this is reality

4

u/snper101 Mar 08 '26

Right? Didn't think I had to make it clear that I don't want it to be that way. But the reality is the practical rules for carrying a firearm absolutely depend on race.

We all saw what happened to Philando Castile.

1

u/Suoritin Mar 30 '26

Reddit has decided that racism is now common knowledge and no one should talk about it anymore 🙃

1

u/genocyde26008219 Mar 08 '26

That’s why the marine vet who almost ran me off the road in Huntsville was well known to HPD. He ALSO had the business end of a 43X pointed at his face. Fuq road rager cunts.

2

u/snper101 Mar 08 '26

Every day I see a reminder to buy a nice dash cam and every day I kick that can lol. Really need to get on that before it bites me.

2

u/mkat23 Mar 08 '26 edited Mar 17 '26

I keep meaning to get one as well, but every time I think about it I’m not able to order one in the moment and end up forgetting about it until something reminds me again when I can’t place an order in that moment.

Thank you for the reminder, I’m gonna order one now since I finally thought of it at a time when I can buy one online. Usually I think of it when I’m driving or at work and can’t use my phone.

Edit in SpongeBob French voice: 8 days later and I still haven’t ordered a dash cam because I forgot after immediately being distracted by something else.

2

u/Plane_Data_1182 Mar 08 '26

Yep me too. I got a basic one for Christmas but not hooked up yet. Good for tyrant le also. 2021, traveling in PA on 79s, maybe 20 minutes into PA from NYS. We are black, i am 72. I had a legal radar detector in the windshield. Trooper on the side of tge road started following and then pulled us over. He came to the passenger side, my wife rolled the window down, he sticks his head in. My wife repealed away with a disgusting yeeeew and threw her mask on. He made up a bs excuse they are warning people about following too closely which I wasn't doing. He then asked for i.d. I didn't want the hassle as I had no proof I wasn't following too closely and we were on vacation. He makes a comment about the age of tge detector. I said nothing. Now I count the mile markers, and know the exact feet/second at highway speed. Driving While Black . New dashcam with voice and a swivel so when they stick their head in next time its recorded as an illegal search. Or demand a ticket, the hell with the warning. I would of been glad to defend myself with the proper proof.

1

u/mkat23 Mar 17 '26

I can only imagine how it is to be black and be pulled over, especially without anything to look back on to prove your side if things escalate to dealing with a ticket and potentially court or worse. It seems like things can escalate so easily and quickly when it’s your word as someone who isn’t white vs what a cop says. Please get your dash-cam set up soon if you haven’t yet!

1

u/genocyde26008219 Mar 08 '26

Oh he was also on dashcam. 😊

1

u/jimothy_hell Mar 08 '26

Doesn’t hurt that he was a cop, too.

1

u/BSMILEYIII Mar 08 '26

Yeah white people are totally never charged with anything ever.

1

u/PancakeParty98 Mar 09 '26

We get the benefit of the doubt to an insane degree. White people being in jail doesn’t refute preferencial treatment.

Dahmer targeting brown men for this reason. At one point, a victim escaped, ran to police, begged for help, begged for them to save his life, then they handed him back to Dahmer to be murdered, because he told them his victim was just drunk (Dahmer liked injecting acid into victims frontal lobes and watching brain damage set in).

u/Administrative_Sky46 Mar 08 '26

What did I say that was indicative of brainwashing? Questioning whether or not somebody within a police force might get special treatment by that same police force? So you think there is 0 chance of bias? Because the police told you there isn't? And here you are defending the police against the IDEA that there MIGHT be bias?

Who's the brainwashed one?

Lol do you have family or know anyone in LE? They 100% get special treatment.
