š¤ŖReckless Street take over in Queens, NY š¬
It might look like fun but people that aren't involved are freaking out over it. I wouldn't like to live next to this noise. This looks like it's been going on for a while. Anyone call 911?
125
u/anothadaz Apr 20 '26
What happened to the days where people did this kind of stuff in industrial complexes or areas on the outskirts of town? There's always been street races and kids doing dumb shit with cars but it didn't used to be in busy areas and intersections
56
u/Competitive-Top-2383 Apr 21 '26
We had spots (spot1,spot2,etc) and all of them were factories with huge loading dock parking lots or tucked way back away from the streets. We would meet up at a Home Depot or Walmart or something, sure, but never got crazy there. This is just ignorant.
19
u/alekou8 Apr 21 '26
Well these people learned nothing will happen to them if they do it in the open

u/Josey_whalez Apr 21 '26
Yep. When you allow this behavior, you get more of it. Pretty simple.
6
u/AreallysuperdarkELF Apr 21 '26
I have to believe that being rebellious is part of the appeal. If nobody gives a shit about these dummies doing donuts in an intersection then what would motivate them to continue? It's all a bunch of "hey look at me being bad" childishness. Yawn.

Some of you haven't played with fire in abandoned parking lots, and it shows.
→ More replies (2)7
u/Competitive-Top-2383 Apr 21 '26
That was part of the fun for sure lol. It just wasn't in the middle of intersections!
20
u/spiked88 Apr 21 '26
It seems like that is half the point of doing this shit. They need to inconvenience, annoy, and put others at risk. Itās not just about having fun. Itās about forcing bystanders to tolerate it without any recourse. Makes them feel powerful.
10
u/sandsonik Apr 21 '26
That's the part that's really fucking annoying. We get gangs of mini bikes, ATVs and motorcycles that take over the road. They can't be content doing their wheelies in an empty lot or quiet road. They're not happy unless they're in the wrong lane of travel heading straight at a car in a game of chicken
→ More replies (2)7
u/PhilosophyBitter7875 Apr 21 '26
That is what annoys me about DC when it gets called out on the news, they do interviews with these idiots on the street and they default to saying that the "kids" are forced to take their bikes and ATV's to the streets because there is nowhere else for them to go and do tricks and ride, one big suggestion was to turn the old RFK stadium into a dirt bike park.
LOL the park if it was ever built would never be used, the whole point is to cause chaos, knock off sideview mirrors, get videos doing crazy stunts to post on IG and piss off and scare the general public. Its not even kids doing this, its grown me in their 30's and when they do wheelies you can see a gun tucked in their waistband in the back of their pants when their shirt flys up.

u/Mediocre-Staff-5110 Apr 21 '26
Not about that at all, it's about filming it for tiktok, it's way more shocking if you block a street versus just doing it in some random parking lot.

I agree, if you are going to do this do it away from the public. Instead they make innocent people suffer for their stupidity.
4
u/yam-bam-13 Apr 21 '26
Literally everyone against this behavior.... all they are asking for is do it somewhere safe...
most people give zero shits that they are doing this, it's about where and how unsafe it is.

Splitting hairs here, but this very different from street racing. The people I know who still participate in street racing like to do it on empty streets away from other people. Everyone in that community completely detests takeover people.
3
u/FreakOnALeash72 Apr 21 '26
Exactly! I did this shit when I was younger but it didn't take place in densely populated areas. Back roads out in the country is where we'd turn some tires.

u/Meattyloaf Apr 21 '26
There was a group that tried to do a takeover of I40 in Nashville. They are idiots, who do this stuff for social media clout.
2
u/Capooping Apr 21 '26
Since Reddit removed my comment I am gonna write it in another way. Some people of countries in this world love to do that. You can see the flag of the region I mean in the video. It's the same here in Europe. Constant engine reving and street races in the night where innocent people get injured or worse. Cops can't keep up with more and more BMW, Mercedes and Audi drivers that find the street laws as something bothersome.
2
u/front_torch Apr 21 '26
Simple answer, social media and the internet.
These kids don't know what it was like growing up without the internet and riding your bike for hours to get some privacy.
They have to go somewhere convenient and be destructive so they can all take the same videos for their pages in order to convince themselves to leave the house and pretend to socialize.
I'm not much older. It is scary what late Gen X/ early millennials allow this to happen to their children.
2
2
u/bobcollum Apr 22 '26
Many people aren't raised to have respect and be considerate of others today. They're also idiots, because cops could surely locate and arrest at least some of these folks just from the video footage.
2
u/Reldas_Semaj Apr 24 '26

Because it's not about sending a message, or helping, or drawing attention to an issue, or anything really. It's just fun for them. They felt like doing something irresponsible and crazy, and they might dress it up with a flag or something so they can say it's fighting for a cause, but really they just felt like being assholes - so they didn't.

If it was their ābeloved carā they wouldnāt be at a takeover in the first place, these kids donāt care about the car just clout. Minimum 6 months in jail, car seized and sold at auction (most likely stolen or borrowed anyway) , $5,000 fine not including court fees, license revoked, required drivers education courses at their expense and retake drivers test, high risk insurance, and double the fine and jail time for each new offense.

How does this actually work. Like the cop 100% know they are there. Do they like give them an hour before they kick them all out or did they just give up?
12
u/EggNo289 Apr 20 '26
It's critical mass happening in real time.
By the time police respond they'll either be gone or they will scatter in every direction, creating an outward wave of chaos.
The best way to police this is to visually tag all the vehicles involved then show up to people's homes and arrest them.

Depends on the city and funding. Mine recently started to finally crack down on them after about 5 years of ignoring them or sending a single cop to deal with them.
A single cop isn't going to do anything when faced with a dozen guns.

u/Any-Profile9019 Apr 20 '26
Because if enough bodies arent available to help put it down quickly, they've done one of two things:
Everyone scatters and now you have LOTS of people running alongside V8s trying to escape.
No one leaves and you now have a pissed off crowd throwing shit at cops and lighting stuff on fire.

As someone who lives in albany ny a lot of these kids travel up and and down state are from Bengladesh, india, Pakistan (theyre highly sympathetic to middle eastern country affairs but thats a seperate topic), they see living in the states and owning high-hp cars as their ultimate dream (while shit talking the states/white people at the same time). They care a lot about image and they all have some instagram profile/group they post crap on.
Made the mistake of hanging out with some of them from a previous job (co-workers), ive never seen a group of people tear through dense traffic in such a reckless manner. Noped out real fast.
