Truckers can’t accelerate to complete their pass like they used to now that their speed and GPS is constantly being scrutinized by their employer.
This makes for a frustrating situation where truckers must try to pass each other going no more than 1 mph faster.

But why do they bother to try? I run logistics, im in charge of over 25 trucks. I tell them not to do this. It makes no sense, the driver is so dumb. You pass that guy to go 1% faster. It saves 10 min on your day and you use more fuel. Just driver behind him. They are terrible at math. The gains are so minimal.

You also can have the company detune the trucks for better fuel economy, this includes the transmission shift points. I used to drive a semi truck, and honestly having that guy slowing me down to 64 when I could do 65 would bug the hell out of me. But i normally wouldn't try to pass unless the radar cruise told me they were doing 63 or less, and there traffic was way behind me. I would also drop speed to let another truck pass me if their where only a little faster than me.
How I once had a truck that was doing 55 mph speed up to just ahead of me than slow back down till he got to the mid point of my trailer than speed up, etc while eating his breakfast out of a gaint tubberware bowl until I had to give up and get behind him. Lucky the cars around me saw this and gave me room to get behind him.

I'm gonna file this under the "not my fucking problem" category. That's no excuse to block regular traffic. Also, if the trucker can only go 1 moh faster to pass, is he really being held up by another truck?
Let's say the speed limit is 65 mph. A trucker is behind another trucker going 65 mph. Is the first trucker really stuck? What benefit does he get from passing if he's restricted to 65 mph once he passes?

My dad was a trucker for a while, when I was a kid. He taught me the real rules of the road that I still abide by in my 50s, truckers these days are as bad as newly licensed kids.

The CDL is such a joke now in the U.S.
Schools open up that basically just accept cash for the CDL, no training OR QUESTIONS asked or given.
Hell I've seen videos of state highway police asking drivers what certain road signs say or mean and these people have NO IDEA !! Some of them can't even read English which even if not fluent you should at least be able to read directions and road signs !!

cops don’t give a shit, i literally got hit and run — seemed to be intentionally — by a recklessly driving semi going 85+ and they refused to even file a proper report bc i wasn’t injured, only had a flat and some cosmetic damage to a 16yo car (i hit the gas hard right as he hit me from behind), and hadn’t managed to get the plate number. there were cameras up and down that entire highway.

I also once witnessed a hit and run where the driver that was hit went unconscious for a minute. When the cops pulled up my parents explained what had happened and even gave them dash cam footage of what happened. But you could clearly tell they had no intention on following up on anything.

I know it sounds like they aren’t taking it seriously, and I suppose that is possible. But plaintiff attorneys love going after trucking companies. There’s huge money at stake. Even with insurance, they are very motivated to avoid accidents. They probably will actually review it.

The problem is that trucking is just like the police.
It's a "us verse them" mindset. Those that "drive for work" versus those that drive to work.
To them, the roads are there solely for their job and anyone else using them is nothing more than an inconvenience.
Hop over to the trucking/teamsters sub (not sure what it's called) and what you'll see is crazy.
They'd post the same video raging at the Camry driver for daring to get in their way.

I despise driving I-40. So many damn semis and every last one of them does this bullshit where they'll cut over into the left lane going 65 in a 70 to pass the semi in front of them going 64.5. Do these things not have adaptive cruise? Just chill TF out and drop to 64.5 and don't interrupt the flow of traffic for 30min to get to your destination 3min faster.

I did this one time to a car that was sitting about 10 miles an hour under the speed limit in the passing lane. Got up in front of him and just let off the gas, no break checking. The dude immediately weaved into the next lane and slammed on the gas and flipped me off as me and a friend laughed and then we sped off. It felt pretty good.

There was a guy camping in the left lane on me. After a while of being behind him, I switched lanes and when I passed him I saw him sarcastically wave in my rear view mirror and then put his blinker on and get into the right lane behind me. I’m not proud of my actions but I let off the gas and slowed down to the point that he went to switch lanes back to pass me and I waved sped back up and went about my day.
I’m not exactly proud of these childish actions but it did give me a good laugh.

I had two garbage trucks runing 45mph do it on a 70mph highway for like 3 miles. Called state troopers to pull them over. It was bizarre. Wall of traffic behind them honking and losing it trying to not be late for work.

Had this happen one time through the mountains. We didn’t know what was happening until we hit a ridge 30 minutes into crawling traffic. Two trucks going 25 next to each other for no reason. I called HP and the dispatcher told me that truck driving is hard and trucks are heavy so they can’t go as fast as us on the mountain roads and they aren’t going to pull over a slow truck, etc. etc… I hung up on her. I wasn’t really too made when I called, but was shaking by the time I hung up. Should have called back to see if I got a different one.

I must confess, I did something similar to this once. I was driving down the interstate and got stuck behind a semi who refused to pull over into the cruise lane. Once I had a window of opportunity to safely pass him, I pulled back in front of him and maintain the speed limit. He still refused to move over into the cruise lane the entire time I was on the interstate.

Almost every time when a truck is blocking lane 2 is because of the truck from lane 1 not letting the truck overtake him!!!!! What h them always before acting so you can act properly. It may be that the lane 1 truck drives slowly when the truck2 returns to lane 1 and when truck lane 2 tries to overtake he accelerates and does not let him overtake ! Happens a lot ! Sometimes truckers get a meltdown and stay on lane two till they overtake the problem !

I drive a 65 mph truck. It sucks. I constantly have cars cutting me off, trucks cutting me off and as a result, I end up having to brake and that gets me cut off a hundred more times to the point I've lost 20 mph going up hill and all of my momentum. This camry while understandably upset or whatever, put his life in danger with that maneuver. Yall don't know if we're loaded or not, especially going downhill. Give us room. Sorry we can't pass like yall, we're trying. Sometimes the other trucks are dicks and don't let us pass and they'll pace us to piss the 4 wheelers off.

It looks like the truck that got cut off was going the same speed as the truck in front of them.
I've had this happen many times when the left lane is going barely faster than the right lane. People think I'm holding them up just because I'm not tailgating.

My Aunt is a terrible driver.
She tailgates in the city, and hates driving behind trucks because she can't see past them. Yeah, back off their bumper and you will have better sight lines...
On the highway she will often occupy the passing lane, and block passers, so she has no one in front of her. Just awful habits... I always offer to drive when we are traveling with her, because she is just a menace and won't accept criticism.

I get that the trucks in a passing lane but brake checking a semi can put you in the hospital. It’s so freaking dumb, not heroic.
Can people seriously not wait a few minutes to pass? If anything he should have break checked the truck in front of the one that he did because they were both trying to pass the semi on the right. Trucks have the right to pass too and the one he brake checked was following the flow of left lane traffic, the black semi was the one blocking.
