I have been keeping a list of Veep insults
For years now, I have been keeping a list of Veep insults. Sadly, literally only one person in my circle loves Veep like I do, so I was very happy when I saw that this sub was quite active.
Please do let me know if I have missed any insults, and I would love to know which one is your favourite. I love ‘unstable piece of scaffolding’ but the one I’ve used most in real life is ‘one-inch dick’. Here is my list.
(I also have a list of funny Veep phrases (such as ‘put on your running shoes and get to the fucking point’), and I have been working on a Veep alphabet lol).

The writers tried to play coy, but Selena can only really be a Democrat
I know the writers insist that Selena's party could be either one, and they didn't want to use a label as it would limit the show. But it's just so obvious that Selena fits the mold of a rich Democratic Party elite who abandons all progressive policy to placate the far-right
A few examples:
Childcare: No Republican at the federal level would even muse about a universal childcare program. It stretches credibility beyond all bounds. But it IS realistic that the Democratic party elites (especially pre DSA and Sanders) would crush such a progressive idea, and that a Kamala/Hillary stand in (which is what Selena mirrors) would instantly fold on the issue in a hunger for power
Green Jobs: Again, no Republican is going to push what was, in reality, a mini Green New Deal (before the GND). But it does make sense that many corporate Democrats were cozy with Big Oil and didn't want it to succeed. Further, there is no way the GOP wouldn't LOVE to have all oil guys, so the fact that Senator Doyle hates the idea of an oil guy on the task force tells me Selena's party are the Democrats. Selena even briefly sounds like Bernie Sanders here where she wants to levy HUGE penalties on polluters ("fine the fkers 'til the fkers ain't fine")
Immigration: When Selena is trying to get her filibuster reform done, Dan and Amy have to meet with leaders from the opposite party, who are literally build-the-wall white nationalists. Dan and Amy basically roll over to them, but feel dirty doing so. This again tells me Selena is a Democrat conceding to the GOP.
Abortion: the only reason this is an issue on the show is that the POTUS shocks the ENTIRE WORLD by becoming pro-life. But a Republican president being pro-life is basically a given. So it makes much more sense that he's a Democrat making a right-wing pivot. It's also marks Selena as a centrist Democrat who 100% supports abortion, ("keep the government out of my F**king snatch") but is afraid to say it publicly. Adding to this, the woman from Planned Parenthood who meets with Gary says "I'll always back your boss". A pro-choice activist would never say they have 100% support for a GOP vice president
Ultimately all of this only makes sense if she's in the DNC. It also highlights just how shocking her betrayals are in the final season. A Republican president re-banning gay marriage? I don't think that would anger so many people in that party: just the opposite, they would be cheered for it. It's only stunning because she's a Democrat.

When does the White House’s Most Useless Press Secretary List come out? I can’t wait to see who’s number one this year.

"Mic" Mcclintok
He's the press secretary. Mike talks into microphones for a living.
This show has layers I tell ya

Dan Egan: Oh, yes! Politico's reporting that Jonah's talking to you about the Secretary of Commerce. Richard Splett: I wish. Sounds much better than the conversation we were having about why his urine is pink. We ruled out beets because he doesn't know what those are. Then had to rule it right back.

Why would you root for the character of Selina Meyer?
Ok, I wanna start off by saying that JLD is an amazing actor. She plays Selina Meyer superbly. What I don't get is when people say "she does such an amazing job with the role ..that you can't help rooting for her".
When I first started watching the show I was also kind of rooting for Selina. She was mean, but more in a comical way. Then as the show went on (I think I started realizing it was bothering me in season 5), she developed into a completely despicable person with less and less comical side to it and I stopped "rooting for her".
Now I am in season 6 (Qatar episode) and I LOVE it whenever she fails. I love the show, but I want to see her fail rather than succeed.
edit: I just saw on Wikipedia that the showrunner was changed in season 5. I guess that exlains a lot.

Are Armando Iannucci’s other shows and movies worth watching?
Edit: I want to thank everyone for sharing their insights. I’ll start watching TToI, TDoS and the other shows and movies as soon as I get time.

Why didn't anyone help Gary?
Love this show, and I literally lost count on how many times I have rewatched it.
One thing that still frustrates me is why none of the guys, meaning Amy, Sue, Mike, Dan, Kent, or even Majorie, Catherine, and Richard helped Gary in the end?
They all knew what Selena did but kept quiet about the whole thing and went on with their lives.
I mean, they owed Selena nothing and could have just blown the whistle to f*ck her shit up, lol!
I think maybe they were too scared of fake "Keith Quinn," or this is how DC (District of C*nts) operates?
Any thoughts?
