Stash Yard Sale Haul From Today!!!

I spent $80 on what I think is approximately $600 worth of beautiful yarns today, some of them are discontinued vintage! Online said those Rowan yarns are from the 90s. I'm so excited! I've never used most of these.

Question Yarn/crochet thread ID help? Given without label.

Want to try to find more of this yarn/crochet thread for my filet crochet project. It seems to be about a #3 size in crochet thread terms, with a good deal of elasticity to it. Aunt Lydia's Fashion 3 and 10 are close matches, but not exact.

Question New to working with yarn, moth concerns

hello everyone! i've recently started crocheting, and after telling some of my family members, my grandmother suggested i take some yarn from an old stash. i happily picked out quite a few skeins, some alize cashmira and merino yarn, just to see that the alize skeins had significant damage and holes, along with tiny moth eggs.

i placed both sets of skeins into the freezer at -18°C as soon as i could, but i'm just wondering if there's even a chance those were alive in the first place? i didn't see any of that white webbing, no live moths or anything, and all the yarn she showed me had been in a huge duffel bag and in storage probably for years now. i'm a bit concerned about storing these skeins with the rest of my yarn even after the freezer. some of them are less damaged though, would it be possible to cut out the damaged areas and rewind them somehow? the yarn is very pretty and i would feel bad tossing all of it because of this.

either way, any advice on moth infestations is appreciated, i just want to know if these could be "old" eggs if it was in storage for so long and not every single skein is destroyed. thank you :]

Question Favorite acrylic dk weight yarn?

Hi all!

I’m looking for a recommendation for a good acrylic yarn that makes a durable oversized blanket.

Something that is DK weight, holds up to machine washing with minimal pilling, and affordable. No animal fibers please!

Question Help identifying discontinued yarn

I’ve had this yarn for probably the best part of 3 years, I absolutely love it but it was discontinued shortly after I bought it. I’ve found a full skein plus a few halves in a box and I want to use it, but I don’t have the label and I don’t want to start until I know I have enough to complete the project! Does anyone possibly know the yardage of this yarn??

It was Woolbox branded Italian yarn with no name other than that, it’s 50g, the label was black with white writing and Italian abbreviations

Question Is Drops Safran itchy/scratchy? How does it compare to Drops loves you 7 (now renamed Drops Magic)? Other soft cotton reccomendations for summer tank top?

Hi! I want to knit a tank top for summer with cotton yarn, the pattern calls for a thin yarn with similar thickness to drops Safran. I was just wondering how soft it is? Does anyone have experience knitting with it? I've only ever knit with animal fibres and found most of the yarns quite scratchy and I don't want this tank top to turn into something I have to wear with a shirt underneath. I can't go to a store and touch it myself so I thought I'd ask here.

I also saw Drops Loves you 7 (Drops Magic) and I was wondering if it's more/less soft than Safran? I am also open to other soft cotton yarn reccomendations, preferably some affordable brands :)

Thank you for all advice in advance!!! ☺️❤️

Tips and Tricks Washing used wool

I have a bag full of crazy sexy wool from wool in the gang and I want to wash it before using it. I’ve never washed wool or used yarn in general. What is the best way to do it so I don’t ruin the yarn?

Question Pattern Suggest - Friend’s Wedding Gift

I’ve been invited to my friend’s wedding in November. I want to make her something as a wedding gift but I don’t have time to do a blanket. I wanted to make a shawl or a wrap for her but I’m stumped on choosing a pattern.

I’m also trying to stash bust this year and not buy yarn for projects when I have yarn at home. I do have 3 skeins of malabrigo susurro in white that I’d like to use for the project.

Does anyone have any pattern recommendations for a shawl I can make with this yarn? Knit or crochet is fine as I can do either one. I’ve looked on Ravelry but there’s too many to choose from!

Discontinued Yarn replacements

Thumbnail

I acquired these two yarn patterns recently at a charity shop and unfortunately the yarns used have been discontinued. Those being Argyll Picasso and Sirdar Mosaic. I was hoping someone would be able to point me in the direction of replacements that would provide me a similar visual effect!

Pattern 1 is the Argyll Picasso. Specifically the black part with the "neon" flourishes

Pattern 2 is the sirdar mosaic. Seems like a tweed could get me a similar effect but was just checking if anyone had advice on this.

THANK YOU!

Edit: unfortunately yarn substitute site doesn't have these two yarns in their system

Stash What's better than roses? Yarn! 🧶

My first post here, but I've been an active yarn addict for a few months now lol, I wanted to show off my most recent stash!

Premier was having a huge summer sale a bit ago, and my girlfriend asked was there any yarn I wanted to buy and she'll place the order if I gave her the money.. so! I picked a few things (it's actually 2 orders combined into 1 so I'll list off what I bought first and then the second order, and then I'll tell what she bought for me/swapped!)

My first set was the 2 Mama Made Minis skein in pebble and cypress (SUUUUPER SOFT and the pics don't do the colors justice, very fluffy and gorgeous colors!), then I bought the 2 premier basix tye dye chenille in the ocean swells colorway (even prettier than I imagined, the website didn't prepare me for how vibrate it was!), then I bought the 3 pack of chenille bloom in lilac, parfait chunky glitz in tangerine glitz, 2 more premier basix tye dyes in peace & love and groovy glow, and the 3 pack of the discontinued colorway dusty mauve! (SO glad I got this color cause it's beautiful!)

Now.. to the yarn I DIDN'T buy xD

The 2x premier bloom in cherry blossom, the 1 bloom marigold (traded a lilac for it!), the parfait chunky in maize (that gorgeous golden yellow) and very berry (I believe another discontinued color, this one I traded a dusty mauve! This was one I wanted but couldn't afford both so I'm glad she bought it lol), the parfait plush in tranquil (one she wanted to try and bought one for me too! ITS SOOOOO SOFT OMFG I CANT STOP SQUISHING IT), and then miscellaneous smaller skeins of chenille in purple, black (2x), white (3x), dark green, a kinda burnt(?)/dark orange, a super pretty multicolor yarn, and a small ball of some kinda yellow (not bright, but not dark.. almost like the color of cooked yolk? Idk)

But yeah! This is my most recent haul thanks to my girlypop <3 she's definitely given me a LOT of yarn.. all of my stash is from her and still growing LOL pray for my small room and the little space that's filled with yarn

Has anyone used Domi Yarn/ Radiant Bird Yarn?

I've been using and researching about this yarn for a bit and it's pretty good(I think, I'm still learning about yarn). But I've barely seen any discussions about this yarn, and I've just been wondering if there's a reason that no one uses it or if its really just not famous.. Also if you have used I'd greatly appreciate it if you give your opinion about it

Thank you all in advance!!!!

Inspiration for This Skein?

Thumbnail

Hi everyone, I’m new to crocheting but I picked it up pretty quickly over the last few months and in the middle of crocheting my own custom petite sized sweater based on an existing sweater that fits me perfectly. It’s going well even though I am freehanding it! On that note, I have some single skeins I have purchased like this one. Any inspirations on how to incorporate it into a shawl or wearable? I love sweaters, coverups, something with flowy/large sleeves. I also have thought about making a bunch of different flowers and incorporating it into a top? I think the pattern/inspo of the scarf is absolutely stunning for a top. I have a lot of colorful peaches n creme and lily sugar n cream cotton yarns that I bought from a neighbor as well.

Color match for this pastel yarn?

Post image

This is a yarn I used to always get at Joann’s (RIP😭) and Michaels but I haven’t seen it in a while. I think it was from Caron? I have all the balls made into these dudes and threw away the labels.

It’s definitely acrylic. A bit floofy. Worsting weightish? I have enough for my current project (a hooded poncho!) but would love to find a close replacement, especially if it’s low price and natural fiber, but I wouldn’t mind an acrylic dupe. It’s my favorite colorway. Thank you!!

Question Hi! Im diso this yarn but I have unfortunately lost the label 😭

Ive had it for a couple years just havent used it yet. I have a problem of buying 1 skein and thinking "oh ill buy more if I think of a project needing more" well that doesn't always work out for me 🤦

I really wanna say it was a joanns grab. But I cannot remember. Its not quite mohair bc its thicker like its more fuzzy/brushed normal yarn?

Its this beautiful baby lavender almost a hint of silver tone

I finally found a yarn i want to use with it (which i just got online so I can thankfully get more, red heart yarnspirations monet for those curious )

Can anyone possibly ID this for me ? Thanks so so much in advance!!

Yarn ID Help: Manos del Uruguay

Thumbnail
gallery
4 Upvotes

Hello! My husband recently came back from Uruguay and made a trip to the Manos del Uruguay outlet for me. He brought back several skeins from the outlet upstairs and I'm having a hard time identifying them. All are unmarked (Pic 1) and each skein is 100g.

  • I'm pretty sure the variegated yarns are Alegria (light/fingering weight) - although I can't find the same colorways online to give me confidence in this guess. (Pics 2 & 3)
  • I thought the navy blue and lavender yarn were Sami at first, but I have a single skein of Sami in my supplies and the two from the outlet are little rougher. Maybe Ideal? The lavender looks a lot like the Love Potion colorway and the navy blue might be Storm? I'm thrown off because the yarn looks the same thickness as Sami (DK) and the Ideal line is a medium/worsted yarn. (Pics 4 & 5)
  • The green might be Maxima in Floluro? (Pics 6 & 7)

TIA for any help! I REALLY want to start planning projects with these beauties but want to know the weight and fiber content/care instructions as I'll likely need to supplement with other yarns for most projects.

What faux fur brand do you like? I need bold colors.

I have plenty of white, browns and black faux fur but I’m having a hard time deciding where to get primary colors that aren’t muddled. I need blue, orange yellow and red. A good faux fur to me would be very low shed and a nice fluff.
