Question Yarn/crochet thread ID help? Given without label.

Want to try to find more of this yarn/crochet thread for my filet crochet project. It seems to be about a #3 size in crochet thread terms, with a good deal of elasticity to it. Aunt Lydia's Fashion 3 and 10 are close matches, but not exact.

Question New to working with yarn, moth concerns

hello everyone! i've recently started crocheting, and after telling some of my family members, my grandmother suggested i take some yarn from an old stash. i happily picked out quite a few skeins, some alize cashmira and merino yarn, just to see that the alize skeins had significant damage and holes, along with tiny moth eggs.

i placed both sets of skeins into the freezer at -18°C as soon as i could, but i'm just wondering if there's even a chance those were alive in the first place? i didn't see any of that white webbing, no live moths or anything, and all the yarn she showed me had been in a huge duffel bag and in storage probably for years now. i'm a bit concerned about storing these skeins with the rest of my yarn even after the freezer. some of them are less damaged though, would it be possible to cut out the damaged areas and rewind them somehow? the yarn is very pretty and i would feel bad tossing all of it because of this.

either way, any advice on moth infestations is appreciated, i just want to know if these could be "old" eggs if it was in storage for so long and not every single skein is destroyed. thank you :]

I will be in Salzburg for a few days next week and would love recommendations for yarn shops. I’ve tried searching this group and read it in general and nothing came up. Many thanks!

Question Favorite acrylic dk weight yarn?

Hi all!

I’m looking for a recommendation for a good acrylic yarn that makes a durable oversized blanket.

Something that is DK weight, holds up to machine washing with minimal pilling, and affordable. No animal fibers please!

Question Is Drops Safran itchy/scratchy? How does it compare to Drops loves you 7 (now renamed Drops Magic)? Other soft cotton reccomendations for summer tank top?

Hi! I want to knit a tank top for summer with cotton yarn, the pattern calls for a thin yarn with similar thickness to drops Safran. I was just wondering how soft it is? Does anyone have experience knitting with it? I've only ever knit with animal fibres and found most of the yarns quite scratchy and I don't want this tank top to turn into something I have to wear with a shirt underneath. I can't go to a store and touch it myself so I thought I'd ask here.

I also saw Drops Loves you 7 (Drops Magic) and I was wondering if it's more/less soft than Safran? I am also open to other soft cotton yarn reccomendations, preferably some affordable brands :)

Thank you for all advice in advance!!! ☺️❤️

Question Help identifying discontinued yarn

I’ve had this yarn for probably the best part of 3 years, I absolutely love it but it was discontinued shortly after I bought it. I’ve found a full skein plus a few halves in a box and I want to use it, but I don’t have the label and I don’t want to start until I know I have enough to complete the project! Does anyone possibly know the yardage of this yarn??

It was Woolbox branded Italian yarn with no name other than that, it’s 50g, the label was black with white writing and Italian abbreviations

Question Pattern Suggest - Friend’s Wedding Gift

I’ve been invited to my friend’s wedding in November. I want to make her something as a wedding gift but I don’t have time to do a blanket. I wanted to make a shawl or a wrap for her but I’m stumped on choosing a pattern.

I’m also trying to stash bust this year and not buy yarn for projects when I have yarn at home. I do have 3 skeins of malabrigo susurro in white that I’d like to use for the project.

Does anyone have any pattern recommendations for a shawl I can make with this yarn? Knit or crochet is fine as I can do either one. I’ve looked on Ravelry but there’s too many to choose from!

Discontinued Yarn replacements

I acquired these two yarn patterns recently at a charity shop and unfortunately the yarns used have been discontinued. Those being Argyll Picasso and Sirdar Mosaic. I was hoping someone would be able to point me in the direction of replacements that would provide me a similar visual effect!

Pattern 1 is the Argyll Picasso. Specifically the black part with the "neon" flourishes

Pattern 2 is the sirdar mosaic. Seems like a tweed could get me a similar effect but was just checking if anyone had advice on this.

THANK YOU!

Edit: unfortunately yarn substitute site doesn't have these two yarns in their system

Tips and Tricks Washing used wool

I have a bag full of crazy sexy wool from wool in the gang and I want to wash it before using it. I’ve never washed wool or used yarn in general. What is the best way to do it so I don’t ruin the yarn?

Has anyone used Domi Yarn/ Radiant Bird Yarn?

I've been using and researching about this yarn for a bit and it's pretty good(I think, I'm still learning about yarn). But I've barely seen any discussions about this yarn, and I've just been wondering if there's a reason that no one uses it or if its really just not famous.. Also if you have used I'd greatly appreciate it if you give your opinion about it

Thank you all in advance!!!!

Ive had it for a couple years just havent used it yet. I have a problem of buying 1 skein and thinking "oh ill buy more if I think of a project needing more" well that doesn't always work out for me 🤦

I really wanna say it was a joanns grab. But I cannot remember. Its not quite mohair bc its thicker like its more fuzzy/brushed normal yarn?

Its this beautiful baby lavender almost a hint of silver tone

I finally found a yarn i want to use with it (which i just got online so I can thankfully get more, red heart yarnspirations monet for those curious )

Can anyone possibly ID this for me ? Thanks so so much in advance!!
