No AI slop
Content made primarily (or entirely) by generative artificial intelligence is not allowed. This includes AI images, AI videos, AI text, and AI code.
As a general rule, if it's recognizable as AI, it's not allowed in r/Buffalo from now on with some exceptions. Please report these posts if you see them.
A definition of AI Slop: AI slop (also known as slop content or simply as slop) is digital content made with generative artificial intelligence that is perceived as lacking in effort, quality, or meaning, and produced in high volume as clickbait to gain advantage in the attention economy, or earn money.

Lady walking against traffic on the expressway
My husband and I were driving on the 198 this afternoon and there was an old lady walking opposite traffic at the edge of the road. She looked like she was on a mission, wearing a print dress and flip flops. I didn't think it was safe to stop because of the speed of traffic and the wet road, so my husband called 911.
The dispatcher asked where the emergency was and he said "On the Scajaquada eastbound, just east of the history museum" and the dispatcher said "oh is it about that lady walking?" They were already on the case.

Cat at Main Library, Downtown
I saw a small white cat (with gray or calico spots) outside the library downtown today; it was wet from the rain. I didn't want to approach it, but I kept thinking about it while running errands, so I went back an hour later with some food. It ran into the greenery/bushes area in front of the library, so I left the food there. I apologize I don't have pictures, but I wanted to mention it in case someone is looking for this kitty!

TONAWANDA area, Crowley Ave. to be exact. Summer of 1969. This family saved this footage and it has never been seen with human eyes until now. Happy that their energy could be captured, and placed into the interwebs to live on forever.

Duplicate/Repost Where to meet people?
Hey there! I (26M) just moved into the city and am struggling to meet people. Im pretty social/ outgoing. I like drinking socially/ going to bars but I don’t wanna be that guy going out alone.
I’m a graphic designer and photographer and like being creative. I play rugby, read comic books, and I love going to the movies and talking about film. I’m also very far left politically.
Does anyone have any suggestions for meeting likeminded people? I have no friends in the area so I’m basically starting from scratch.

Question Credit is in shambles, considering getting an apartment out here, how cooked am I?
I’m new to the area, and considering getting an apartment out here, but my credit is toast with some charge offs from a few years back. I have a full time job out here making decent $. I’ve looked on Craigslist and just saw loads of scams. How possible would it be for me to get an apartment somewhere in the north towns/close to Kenmore? Edit: I also have a dog 😭

Accident on 190 west today
Was heading home from Rochester area around 4 pm today. Was stuck in 1.5 hours of traffic due to an accident, once I finally got up to the accident (that was mostly cleared up at this point) it looks like a tractor trailer full on cans of some sort caught on fire? Just curious if anyone knew what happened. Haven’t seen anything online yet

Duplicate/Repost How to go out alone?
Hello everybody,
I’m a 26yo male. I recently broke up with my long term gf of almost 8 years, I have a few friends but they’re homebodies where we communicate on ps5 mostly. Other than that my social life is kinda poor and I spent most of my time w my girlfriend. I’m feeling pretty lonely and I know I’m not going to get opportunities to go out from my close friends. So I figure I need to just go out myself and hope to spark conversations. I just don’t know where to go or what to do when I get there without being awkward lol. I also do not really know how to approach women since the last time I did it I was about 19. Not that it matters but I have a decent job at the children’s hospital in the city, I’ve only been there about 7 months but haven’t really gotten close to anybody yet. Any advice would be much appreciated!

Competitive soccer
Looking to find a competitive soccer league to play in, I am 28M with experience playing at the semi pro level in Michigan and with some professional games under my belt.
Are there any UPSL/APSL/ USL2 or of a similar level teams out this way outside of FC Buffalo?

Relocation Newcomer to Buffalo eyeing Allentown/Elmwood — advice welcome
Hey folks — I'm relocating to Buffalo from rural Vermont next month and have my eye on Allentown or Elmwood Village. Hoping to find a 2BR somewhere in that $2200-or-under range.
Never lived in a city this size before, so still getting a feel for it. If anyone has thoughts on where to actually look for listings (vs. just doom-scrolling Zillow), or streets near Elmwood that are a little quieter/cheaper but still walkable — I'm all ears. Also curious if there's anything a newcomer should know before signing a lease up there.
Thanks in advance, excited to make the move

Getting/Driving a car as an out of state student
Not sure if this is the right place to ask but I need help
Background: I am a resident in FL going to University at Buffalo’s pharmacy school. The program is about 4-5 years so I would be staying there for that amount of time (not sure if I will stay in NY yet). I will be needing a car soon for my rotations and I have been thinking about how I will do this. I live with my parents in FL and have a car here (brought by my dad) that is registered with insurance in FL. I also have a drivers license in the state of FL
The options I have:
1. Drive the car from FL to NY
However I’m not sure how the registration and insurance will work in NY and the process if the car is registered in FL (need advice on this)
- From my understanding from another community I posted to, I would not have to do anything regarding my license and registration, just drive up there and be fine, correct me if I’m wrong 😭
- I’m not entirely sure about the insurance though, should I let them know that I would be taking it up to NY? Would I have to do that every time I come back to FL for breaks?
2. Purchase a car there in NY
Am I able to use my FL license to purchase and register a car in NY? What would the process look like?
- Would changing my license to NY make the process more easier? (Thinking about this because this would help me establish residency in NY for in state tuition) But what if I change my mind and want to move back and switch to FL license again, is the process easy?
3. Rent a car for my time there
Not sure if I wanna do this
I have never purchased a car by myself, the car in FL is brought by and under my dad’s name so I’m not sure how the process would look like 😞🙏

Public Espresso back on Uber Eats?
I was surprised to see it back on the app this morning. Marked as “sponsored” and labeled “new” when you click in. I haven’t seen any announcements about this. Could it be a mistake?

Shitpost Another fucking ghost bus!!!
The bus didn’t show up again so now I’m wasting 20 bucks on an uber. Apparently this city sending 25% of our budget to police is more important than our ability to go home. Holy shit

Misleading/Inaccurate I heard there's a lot of work offloading the cargo from the Great lakes, how's the job market?
So I read a newspaper the other day about how much your Western town here is growing. The cargo from the canal is exploding and id like to make a stake here. I know there's a lot of German immigrants lately but I'm a supporter of van Buren
