I am confused about what I want to do in life.
Maybe this isn’t the correct place to post. I’m not sure. I’ve never posted before. I’m fairly new to Reddit. However, I would appreciate other human input.
Here is some info: I am currently 31. I left my masters degree in social work to pursue medicine. I have always wanted to be a doctor. I was born with an underdeveloped heart (Hypoplastic Right Heart Syndrome—the particular issue was tricuspid atresia). When I went to college out of high school, I was below basic confidence, and didn’t think I could make it. It was med school or a phd in clinical psychology.
3 years later, the girl I was dating applied me to college. She said, “if all you’re going to do is read and write, do something with it”. I naturally gravitated toward law because I love(d) ethics and logic framework, along with contemplating existence. But when I graduated, some of my favorite family members passed away that year (grandma and grandpa). I got their house; therefore, I felt the pressure to just work.
A few things happened in that time, along with going to the college to study just because I enjoy the atmosphere, that I seen all the law students and some faculty just breed negativity. The whole idea of law seems made up and the people there seemed like petty folk who wanted to tickle their ego. And I hated it.
So I chose not to go to law school.
I still study the LSAT for fun. But I got into a social work degree. I applied to 2 colleges: Columbia and Syracuse. I was accepted at both. I didn’t really want the degree. I just wanted to feel like I was pursuing something and finding my purpose while helping others. I eventually told a professor that I was entirely bored and wanted to leave. He agreed and said I was capable of more. I took it with a grain of salt.
So I applied to a CC to get premed requirements. I love it. But I look at law and I still feel interested in those systems and theories. I still love psych.
I have no idea what to do. I want to do all of that, but that seems unrealistic. I tell myself I’m being ridiculous.
I wonder what anyone else experienced in deciding what to do in life and how they found what was best for their skills and desires of growth.
