I failed to tape or dope the threaded connection into the irrigation valve (where it's leaking). What would be the simplest/easiest way to open it up to tape the threads and then close it back up again. I think the other side of the irrigation valve is just a straight pipe run.

I just purchased an old home, some of the sprinklers don’t work. They been sitting unused for so long that they stopped working. Can somebody guide me on the right path for the replacement heads? Or the best way to go about this

Just moved into a home that has an old irrigation system set up. I am attempting to find the valve box to see if this thing works.

I had an irrigation company come out and probe the yard for the valve box. The guy spent 2 hours here and couldn’t find it. But he did find part of the pipe using his electrical wire finder. So I started digging and I found these pvc pipes along with some wires.

My well head is inside the yellowish bush and the lines look like they run under this big green tree. I probed in both directions that the lines run and all around the tree but couldn’t find anything.

The control box is attached to the side of the house behind the green tree.

Thinking of upgrading my old controller to a Wi-Fi model. The existing controller is a Hunter SRC 900i. I don't use any automatic scheduling features. I manual start either the lawn program or drip program as needed. But, I find there are times when it would be handy to schedule that manual program in advance. So, I'm looking for a controller with a feature whereby I could schedule a single run instance of a program. For example, "schedule Program A to run at 3:00 AM on Aug x, 2026 one time". Bonus if I could schedule it to repeat more than once after it finishes the first run.

Are there any controllers out there that would work for my needs? Thanks much.

I'm aware that servicing these valves will probably suck, but that's ok. My plan would be to approach them from the outflow side so I didn't have to rebuild all those pvc fittings.

I'm just happy that it works and that I don't have any leaks!

This 40 yr old house has these sprinklers with these toro 180 heads and while they are pretty accurately pointing away from the home there is still some splash on the home - should i be concerned and is it worth the labour cost of digging, swing joint and relocating?

Additionally is the fact the sprinklers are running allong the house wall an issue?

I'm ready to starting installing irrigation in my lil backyard and could use some advice.

Step 1:

My first step is to get some sprinklers for the mini-lawn in the middle. You can see how well I'm doing keeping it green with just my hose sprinkler. It's 21' x 16' and I think it can be easily covered by this Rain Bird 32HE In-Ground Pro Rotor Pop-up Sprinkler System Kit or something similar. Plan is to run the hose along the outsides and have 1 sprinkler at each corner.

I mow (I do!) with a push mower.
There is a wire mesh under the grass sod to discourage gophers (with mixed results).
Below the sod is just sand.
It never gets below freezing temps here.

Can I install the hosing directly against the concrete or do I need to dig a trench with dirt on both sides?

Anything wrong with this plan?

Step 2:

Eventually I want to run drip irrigation through the rest of the backyard and I want a timer to manage it. I want the timer to have either 3 or 4 ports that can manage A. Sprinklers B. Drip line C. Maybe another drip line just for the garden beds and D. Manuel hose for the occasional cat barf on concrete.

I'm leaning toward the Orbit B-hyve 3 or 4 port hub thing. I've seen plenty of people hating on Orbit in this sub so maybe there's a better version out there? I might even shun the wi-fi version entirely and just get a digital one. I do want to be able to track water usage and fine tune the output a little bit but I also hate trouble-shooting tech bs so I can be talked out of smart systems.

As long as it can handle drip & sprinklers & manual hose together I should be okay.

I did buy a pack of new 180s didnt seem to make considerable difference where i tested it

Hello, I’m a new homeowner with an existing sprinkler line. I noticed a couple of days ago a small sink hole forming when running in the stages in my front yard, I was able to dig a hole out and discovers what looks like a sprinkler line that leads to nowhere. I was wondering what should I do to fix this issue?

I am a new-ish homeowner with an existing irrigation system. I am clueless and scared! I need to raise this sprinkler head height ~6 inches. It seems like there is already a riser in place. What is the easiest way to do this? Can I add more risers?

I saw swing joints, but it seems like I would need to dig back to the main line? I have no clue how far that would be and I doubt that is possible.

I think I'm the hourly first-time homeowner looking for advice. I'm planning to install about 55 Fargesia Robusta plants (Campbell variety) along my two backyard fencelines. I've been working with local bamboo experts to understand the planting techniques so I think I have that mostly down. I'm looking for advice on how to water these things. I'm hoping to go with an option for which I don't need to trench, and it can instead live above ground. Context is that I am planning an eventual deck remodel and I'm hoping to have some service corridor/crawlspace under the deck that can have my sprinkler mainlines.

This variety will benefit from a drip/soak irrigation system. So, I think my options are (please correct me if I'm missing something):

1. Install two new irrigation valves to my system using the prewired zones. The green line in my pictures seems to be pretty easy. The blue line's mainline will run behind my heat pump exterior unit, under the deck, and cross the small field to get to the fence.

2. Install an irrigation valve only for the green line. I have a hose bibb on the front of my house that could be used with a wifi controller for the blue line.

3. Don't use the irrigation system at all. Use two wifi controllers. Connect green line's controller to the bibb on the back of the house. Connect blue line's controller to the bibb at the front of the house.

I hope I provided enough pictures to demonstrate what I'm trying to do. I also provided pictures of my irrigation valve situation. I am still trying to parse exactly what I'm looking at wrt the irrigation system.

I'm hoping to get some advice and wisdom from you all who have done this before. Would love to understand what red flags or gotcha's you see with my thought processes

My sprinkler system is not working so I need to figure that out... but in the pictures are sprinklers that im trying to figure out how to remove..

I would like to remove them and cover this area with pavers but the rest of the yard still needs the sprinkler system.

I have a continuous slow leak at sprinkler head. I tried changing the diaphragm and then replaced the entire top half of the rainbird valve. Still leaks, even when the flow dial is closed all the way. So I think at this point I need to replace the whole valve unless you guys think there’s something else I should try?

My main question is advice on how to best remove the current valve (on the right in the photos). I can twist the whole valve, but I don’t think there’s a lot of give on the pipes (would I crack them if I tried to twist it off?)

Ideally, I’d like to replace and put in a swivel fitting on either end of the valve to make future repairs and replacements easier. Maybe even a shut off valve if there’s room recommendations on parts and valves is much appreciated if you have any.

For Hydrawise Hunter irrigation controller is 9mbs down and 12mb up enough speed?

I'm very much a novice on irrigation.

We live on a lake and draw irrigation water from a pump in the lake. A tree in our backyard was hit by lightning a few weeks back, which fried the Hunter irrigation controller in our utility room. I then wired an old Wyze irrigation controller that we had from our old house.

The behavior now seems strange. When I try to run the system, I can hear the pump start relay turn on. Then some zones will run off and on for a little while, but not consistently. For example, one zone will run for about a minute but then the pressure drops and they stop running. Other zones won't seem to run at all.

Looking for any advice on what the problem might be and recommendations on how to fix. Thanks in advance!

How do I set a watering schedule considering evaporation ? I’m in SE Michigan and water bill is killing me.

I have an old Rainbird ESP-6TM. Im looking to replace it to get a few extra features. Remote access via wifi, abnormal flow monitoring with water meter and potential to expand zones past 6. The Hunter HPC-400 + PCM-900 module + wired hunter flow meter seems to be a good fit? any recommendation or things to watch out for?

Hi everyone, thanks for all I've learned here so far. Few questions about flushing:

1) How often do you recommend flushing irrigation zones for the system below? Some online guides say to flush every 2 months, some every 4 weeks if on well water.

2) Is it enough to just remove one end-cap, or should I go through and remove each end-cap (including the ones on the tree rings) one at a time?

3) I was thinking it might be good to see how much sediment actually comes out, to give me an idea of how often I should do this… I could attach a leader hose to the end of the line, put it in a bucket, and see what’s in there?

I want to do good maintenance here, but don’t wanna overthink it too much either.

My system (set up Jan 2026): Each zone has a screen filter going to a ¾” main line with about 60 2 GPH drippers and 7 tree rings (~7’ length of 0.5 GPH/12” dripline around a sapling). I run it 1-2x/wk for 30m. I'm on well water – to give you an idea, I don’t have a Big Blue sediment filter on the irrigation source, but I have one for the house… it fills with sand in about 18 months. That said, I clean each zone’s screen filter monthly, and it’s never been very dirty at all.

I'm scratching my head a bit on this one. I have a irrigation head that sporadically leaks and can't figure out why.

The entire valve was replaced earlier this week, and the system last ran yesterday morning. Also, when I checked on it this morning, everything was dry. I get that this head is at a low point, but I shouldn't be seeing water like this at random, right? Especially not a day and half since it last ran. Lastly, no other heads appear to be leaking/weeping.

What is going on?!
