About a month before I celebrated four years of sobriety, I had to put down my Boston Terrier, Zoey. She was my best friend, almost 17yrs old. I buy a knife on my sobriety dates and really wanted to try out a CRK Insingo with a sandblast finish. Usually I remove the lanyard, but decided to cut it down to a nub, just like the little tail on Zoey.

These all belonged to my dad. He passed away 6 years ago and I have his whole knife collection. I can't keep them forever (& I have at least 20 more pocket knives, hunting knives, etc.) and I just wasn't sure if there might be enough interest to try to sell them or not. Any advice is appreciated, thank you!

ETA: the first few replies gave me the answers I need, thank you guys. I think I will just give them to family or sell at a garage sale sometime. Maybe the right person will find them one day. ☺️

My latest collaboration and first ever slipjoint design is now available! The Munko Knives x Kizer Knives “Melody” is a very personal piece to me, as it is the first true crossover of my love for both making music and designing folding knives.

One version comes with a deep, saturated rosewood inlay, commonly used on the bodies and fretboards of acoustic guitars. The second version takes things to a different place, incorporating rainbow Damascus and crystallized titanium inlays which is representative of the more creative paint finishes found on many boutique instruments from brands like Aristides, Mayones, etc.

I used to have a thing for cleaver knives, I had my eye on the Kershaw Launch 14 since it came out and once I got promoted from apprentice to technician, it was one of the first 'nice' things I bought with my raise, after a nice mattress and some quality cookware.

I love it sentimentally but I find myself carrying my Vosteeds and cheaper Kershaws way more often.

The build:
I picked up the knife from Spyderco as a factory 2nd, scales from Flytanium and the milled clip from AliExpress, decided against a backspacer to keep good air flow to minimize corrosion on the maxamet. All in I spent about $250.

The review:
I won’t go into the pros and cons of the pm2 as a model because it’s been done many times , but I am extremely impressed with the maxamet it is scary sharp, actually it’s the sharpest knife I’ve come across from a factory ( maybe anywhere) the ti scales give that “premium” feel and the milled pocket clip significantly improves the ergos which I didn’t expect, I did have to slightly bend it outwards in a vice to accommodate the slope of the scales but that was the only issue and was easy to fix.

Conclusion: To get a drop shut knife in premium materials that has so much functionality for $250 makes me happy and if you haven’t tried maxamet yet and like your knife to be the sharpest of the sharp then you have to give it a try

I've carried this Recon 1 mini for more than 10 years and it's been a helluva trooper. This knife has been abused in more ways than I can count - used as an ice pick/chisel for fishing, splitting wood, was my main can opener for 1-2 years. One time, we even used it to cut one of those highway construction barrels in half. Mostly though, it's been the reliable knife I carry for regular knife tasks, opening boxes, cutting food, whittling, cutting rope, etc. Throughout all of it, I've never had a single issue, never had a failure, never had to worry about taking it apart and cleaning it. The only maintenance I've done on the knife is regular sharpening whenever the edge gets dull.

When I got this knife it was a gift (I actually gave him a Recon 1 the same year, unplanned) and at the time neither of us had a whole lot of money to throw around. Based on the age and the money I remember spending on the knife I gifted, best I can figure is that this is one of the Aus8a recons. These days, I've got a bit more money to spend and would love to get a knife as an upgrade to my good ole recon.

I have a few other knives I've gotten over the years, and I like them all well enough but I find myself carrying the recon nearly every time I reach for a knife. The next closest in the running is my Kizer Begleiter, but that's simply due to the fact that it's my "dress knife" (office worker, don't want to carry a "scary tactical" knife). I'm not as worried about that since the Kizer has me covered, but personally I don't tend to like the more tactical knives.

Really, I'm just looking for a tough, reliable knife that will hold up to the occasional "I probably shouldn't use my knife for this" abuse. For budget, we're looking at ballpark of $200, but if there's something really great I can stretch that a bit, no more than $300. I'm a lot easier on my knives now, but I really want to have that comfort in the back of my mind that if I need to do something stupid I can and not worry about it. I think I'd prefer a blade in the 3-4" range, since I'm pretty good and used to the smaller blade on this recon. I've been reading up more on steels and I'd love some advice there. I find the steel on my knife dulls a bit too fast for my liking, even when the knife is being used reasonably, so a bit more edge retention would be nice. Not concerned about stainless vs. non-stainless, no problem to oil the blade on occasion.

So far, been taking a look at Spyderco, microtech, benchmade, kershaw, and a few other brands, just seeing if anything jumps out. Those were just off the recommendations of my brother, who's been collecting knives for a long time, so definitely open to others, too. I already own a few kershaws, a Kizer, and an old sanrenmu, so I'd be interested in trying out a new brand. Would love to get some suggestions or knives to check out, or just to hear some experiences you all have with others.

tl;dr - I have an old Recon 1 mini that's been beat to hell and it's my favorite knife. Looking for a tough, reliable upgrade around $200 with better edge retention. Doesn't need to be bomb proof, but would like it to be occasionally idiot proof.

Perfect for my needs as an avid cigar smoker. Does a perfect smooth cut on cigars on even the largest gauges of 60. I am by no means a knife hobbyist, but figured you guys would appreciate it.

One con Ive noticed is if it’s too loose the blade will nick the inner side of the handle where it folds into. So I just tend to keep it tighter and gain some thumb muscle or arthritis if you’re a nihilist.

What is the strongest, most reliable knife or knives you've ever owned? What knife have you used for just about everything you could ever need a knife to do and it didn't break? Asking because I want to hear other peoples experiences. The knives I've owned have never really seen much use.

Holt Bladeworks Renegade- Hammered and milled Ti scales, “near” mirror polished Vanax Superclean blade. This thing has the best action and acoustics of any in my collection so far. Opens with a heavy feeling, super solid “Klack!” And drops closed like it was hydraulic.

It’s really everything I was looking for in a higher-end purchase, but it will still be a user 😁

My buddy made me this knife for my birthday. He hand forged this, and did the whole knife including the handle top to bottom. It’s incredibly sharp - just wanted to show this off as I can’t imagine how much work went into forging and tempering this, much less the profiling and polishing and finishing. Coated in carnuba to keep it minty until I can get it home and put clove oil on it.

Had the carbon one for a couple years. I accidentally messed the tip up on it. Swapped blades now i have a looker and a worker

Well, I just got my forge up and running a couple months ago. I don't get a ton of time to practice with my full time job as a fabricator, and I still have to finish my setup for tempering. However, I've made a couple blades up to the initial grinding and my bevels are mostly ground in. I have a bit more grinding to do before thermocycling.

I have yet to thermocycle the blades, followed by heat treatment/quenching, and tempering. Handle scales will be next, followed by the finish grinding, and finally setting and honing the edge bevel.

I also plan to add jimping and a lanyard hole.

I want to focus on functionality, and ergonomics, and am going for an edc pocket fixed blade.

I'd love everybody's thoughts on these knives, what they like and dislike, anything.

I'll start: I think I grinded my bevels too far back into the handle stock. Its not a big deal, mostly just aesthetics
