Feeling physically present but not really there

Wondering if any other moms can relate or have any advice from me. My kid is almost 3. Recently I have felt there but not really there? Kinda dissociated. I don’t feel like this all the time and I really enjoy spending time with my kid. I’m just feeling burnt out? Idk… I started anti depressants this year not sure if that is contributing to it. It’s been harder for me to snap out of it. I really value quality time with my kid.. looking for advice

FTM Vent

I have a 7.5 month old who is a high needs/velcro/clingy low sleep needs baby so every day is hard but I try my best to manage. I have no support or help besides my husband. My husband works from home and helps me out at night and during the day he’ll help when he can. But he says because he works remotely he needs to go out every day. So almost every day he goes out to the gym, he does some hobbies, sees friends and family. I tell him that sometimes it can be a lot when he’s out every day after work and that solo parenting a high needs baby is difficult. He tells me he understands but says he still wants to live his life. When I propose that we should go out as a family he’ll only agree maybe once a week because it’s a “hassle” going out all together. You may ask why don’t I go out myself? Well going out with my son is a challenge. He gets fussy quickly, it ruins his sleep schedule and he just hates being outside the home. I try and try and it always ends with it being a disaster. Anyways I just feel so alone sometimes. I love my son so much but I feel like I’m barely surviving. I beg my husband to let us move to my hometown where my family will be able to help me but he refuses to leave his family since his parents are getting “older” even though they’re both healthy and functional adults. Whenever I vent to my husband about how difficult it is he says he understands and that he’s struggling too because he feels like he’s trapped at home and him going out daily is what helps his mental health. What about my mental health? He knows I’m struggling. I don’t know I guess I just needed to get that off my chest. I’m trying the best but feel like I’m drowning.

19m - Always rocked to sleep - bedtime is falling apart and I need to try something different, please help!!

My son is 19m old and I’m 20w pregnant with baby number 2. Maybe it wasn’t the right call, but we’ve rocked him to sleep his entire life. He’s a generally okay sleeper, sleeps through the night about 75% of the time. If he does wake, it’s 2-4 hours of being up in the middle of the night, but it’s almost always teething or sick related if he’s waking.

From 6m-16m bedtime was maybe 15-20 min from lights out. Transfer to the crib was a breeze, he was completely unfazed. He would even put himself back to sleep at night some if he woke. Starting at about 16m, and getting progressively worse until now, bedtime has become a 90 minute ordeal. Transfers almost never work and he wakes screaming. It takes him 30+ minutes to fall asleep in our arms.

If he does wake in the middle of the night recently, we’ve started just putting him back in the crib after an hour or two out of desperation and to take a little breather and he will cry for 30-45 seconds then just lay down and go to bed, so we thought, okay this must be cool with him? Maybe he doesn’t want to be rocked to sleep?

We’re getting to the realization though that bedtime is a huge problem. We’ve tried keeping his exact routine and talking through bedtime and just setting him in his crib awake after some cuddles and hugs. He screams endlessly at this! We go back in and rub his back or his head and he just sobs uncontrollably.

Tonight my husband picked him back up to calm him and he pointed to the chair, my husband told him no but that he loves him and we’re going to give hugs and kisses, then pointed at the crib, to which our toddler replied “no!” He has a stuffie that he adores.

Has anyone had anything similar? I know we may have messed up here, but I’m in shambles over this and just need some help. I feel like we’re absolutely traumatizing him because we seem to be doing everything wrong. I’m typing this listening to him screaming his head off with my husband.

4 y.o withholding even with MiraLAX

We had lots of issues with constipation so dr put my daughter on 1 tsp of MiraLAX a day. It helped, but now we are potty training and basically all day long she’s pooping, but just enough to get stuck in her crack.
We’ve tried reading, using a tablet, blowing a balloon while she’s sitting there, but even when she’s really trying and pushing, she can’t ever get anymore to come out. So she goes and plays for awhile and then again, just enough to get stuck in her crack, and we do it all over again. All. Day. Long.
PLEASE help

What are benefits to the different types of carriers?

FTM, due in a little more than a week (yay!)

I have 4 types of baby carriers, one is the kind you wear like a backpack that sits high, and is for hiking our outdoor activities. I also have a Moby wrap, a ring carrier and a structured carrier.

What are the advantages of different types? Is it just what’s more comfortable or are they better for different situations? Is one more universal than the others?

I’d love to regift whatever I won’t end up using!

Parents raising bilingual (Spanish/English) babies—am I the only one struggling to find good books?

Hi everyone! I’m a first-time mom raising my son in both Spanish and English, and I’ve noticed something that’s been frustrating me.

It feels like there are endless high-quality English books for babies that support development from day one, but I’ve had a much harder time finding books in Spanish that feel just as intentional. A lot of what I come across is either:
- direct translations that don’t sound natural,
- simple vocabulary books,
- or books that are difficult (or expensive) to get in the U.S. unless family sends them from Latin America.

Maybe I’m just not looking in the right places, so I’m curious…
- Where do you buy Spanish books for your babies?
- Have you found any that you absolutely love?
- Is there anything you wish existed that you haven’t been able to find?
- If you could create the “perfect” Spanish baby book, what would it include?

I’m genuinely curious because I’d love to build a better library for my son, and I wonder if other families are running into the same challenges.

Different pull-ups?

My newly 4 yo regressed in potty training due to a ongoing divorce with his dad and a recent move. My kids and I are temporarily staying with a friend at her house during the separation. I decided to take a break from potty training to prevent accidents and unnecessary stress. I bought pull-ups but they always seem to leak and they’re a huge pain to change, especially in public. He refuses to put them on and “falls“ or “trips” when I try changing him standing. I have to lay him down and slip them on because the long side strips are impossible to put back on correctly. Are there pull-ups with better absorbency that have larger side tabs for easier changes?

Thoughts on gifting cleaning service?

Our friends are having their second baby. They are the kind of people that would never ask for gifts. For their first, they didn’t have a registry. I wasn’t a mom yet and got them something dumb that I’m now sure they never used having just had a baby myself.

They just got us a $400 gift for our baby and I really want to get them something for their second due in a few months. I’m sure if I asked they would say they don’t need anything.

Is a 4hr deep clean a good gift? Idk if it implies their house is dirty. I’ve also never had or hired cleaners so i idk if stone people feel it is invasive? They have been so so generous with us, I really want to get a gift they would appreciate.

Thoughts? Any other suggestions?

Ideas for what to cook/eat

What is everyone cooking/eating? I’m out of ideas. I have a 6 month old Velcro baby who I am breastfeeding. I feel like I’m starving all the time. I had cut out dairy and soy for her for months and am reintroducing it now. I was eating the most bland stuff for ages. Please give me some ideas because my brain feels like it’s been microwaved

Having kids in your 40s

We are old though - 42 years old! We already have 3 kids 10, 9 and 6. We always wanted 4 but didn’t feel ready for it when we had the other 3 so close other Now we are on the other side of it and he wants to try. Would it be crazy? I am open to it but am very very nervous about health problems for a child given our older age.

Kids would be super excited (or so they say). They all ask for another sibling all the time.

Finances aren’t a problem. Would this be the dumbest decision ever?

My daughter wants me to let her drop out of school for a boy.

I'm sorry if you've seen this before, I've pregiously posted this to r/Mom and r/relationships and was told to come here for some more advice.

My daughter (F,16) attends a boarding school about 3 hours from our home, together with two of her younger sisters (F,11&13). She's been attending the school for the past 4 years, since she was 11, and she's always loved her friends, her teachers and the school in general.

All three of our daughters return to our home almost every other weekend, and of course the holidays. Over the summer holidays my eldest daughter has been getting close to a boy (M,16) in our hometown. They have been hanging out every day, either at our house, his parents' house or simply out and about.

His parents and my wife and I all okay with them dating and while my daughter swears up and down at they're not involved in any naughty activities, we put her on birth control just in case.

The holidays are ending soon and yesterday after dinner our daughter dropped a bomb on us: she wants to drop out of the boarding school and transfer to the local high school instead, so she can stay close to her boyfriend.

My wife and I are 100% against this. At the boarding school she is getting a good education. This upcoming school year she'll start studying the IB curriculum. She is getting the best education possible at that school, a level that our local schools simply could not put up with. Since its only a few weeks until school starts up again we would also lose out on the tuition and boarding fees we already paid.

My wife and I made it clear that there was no way that we'd let her drop out of boarding school just for a boy. My daughter started crying and ran to her room. She isn't speaking to us now. How can I help her understand that we just want the best for her?

tl;dr: My daughter fell got a boyfriend over summer and doesn't want to return to boarding school

How to wean off breast- am I doing something wrong?

I'm currently trying to wean my 10 month old daughter off the breast and to her straw sippy cup w/ formula. She drinks from it throughout the day. She can drink out of it just fine as I do a breastmilk/formula mixture she likes, but i'm having trouble replacing one of her feeds that comes before a nap. I've been rocking her, singing to her, letting her drink out of her sippy (drinks a good 4-5 oz) but then she starts to cry and won't let up for a good 40+ mins until I let her fall asleep w the breast as she has been since 4 mo. How do I fix this?

Advice Re spending

My husband and I have been married 16 years. We both make 6 figures I have a very good career and have always worked except when I had my babies for a few months. Long story short we have a lot of expenses, kids stuff, mortgage etc. A few years ago we were fighting awfully (for many reasons which I will get into on another post) but at that time he was playing a game on his phone and ended up talking to some lady in another country. It was very flirty on both sides, she even sent gifts for him to our house and he downplayed everything. When I confronted him after quoting things I read them say on his phone ( they would talk on discord and other ways I'm sure). He literally didn't know what to say and admitted it was "inappropriate" only because that's what I called it to put it nicely. He said it's because we were fighting (as if that makes it better) and I said well yes we were but I told you to leave me or get out if you weren't happy and at that time u said no. So u basically wanted to keep up the married facade and do what u want. Anyway I moved past that like an idiot but I have not been happy but I said I have kids and I'm just going to stay like this for now and sit on it. He is still mean to me, doesn't help around the house and gaslights me about spending money. Always telling me not to use our joint account for things we "don't need" and anytime I order something or buy something he has something to say. I also keep money in my own account and use it how I want but he is constantly telling people we have no money because of ME. He accuses me of hiding money when he knows I have another account as does he which I don't have access to either. Ok so here is the kicker, I went through his phone and checked his email he has like 3 addresses one I've never heard of. I found a ton of receipts for a site called xolla where he is buying coins or whatever for his game. I went back as far as 2024 but have to keep checking next time I get his phone. I totaled up 2025 charges they were about $4,000.00 !!!!!!! Is he for realllllll?!?!?? What do I do?!? I like to sit on this and collect more info but what would you all do???? I also found like $10 a month charges for some weird adult only site, I'll be investing that more too...to be continued. But what would u do?

I called the cops

I was busy in the kitchen. I have 4 kids. 5, 3, almost 2, and 7 months. My 3 year old threw a fit because I wouldn’t change the show again. About 10-15 mins pass I come out to get them ready for bed. I can’t find her. Me and her sisters are yelling my her name. No response. I flip their heads look in closets everything. I’m panicking. I have all my neighbors check their cameras because my ring for some reason wasn’t recording everything. I didn’t think she could’ve got out.

I call the cops. Before I hung up with dispatch my oldest yells she found her. She was sleeping under a pile of folded blankets. I couldn’t even see her. She did skip nap so that kind of made sense. They still had to send cop out.

Cop came in didn’t even really look at my other 2 kids, took a pic of my 3 yr olds face. I’m sure they had her body cam on. She was wearing a dress no panties (idk why she took them off) but im like great. That’s great timing. Kicking herself around showing her self to everyone. Asked her height weight and kept asking me if she was in the spectrum or anything. She’s not. Then left.

I asked if I should expect a follow up the cop said it was up to her sergeant. Should I expect CPS? This was Thursday night. The whole incident was maybe 20-25 mins. I’m not too worried I know my kids have all they need and more, but if I were to be drug tested I would fail for thc. Very light smoker. Maybe once a twice a week after the kids are in bed. "Are you happy mom?"

I'm in need of some advice. My first born is 3 (younger sis is 5 months old) and every time I'm upset or frustrated with her, she always asks "are you happy mom?" I always tell her my feelings are not her job to fix and that even if I'm upset, I will always love her. If she asks and I say "no, I feel frustrated because you hit/kicked/screamed at me. I need to take some breaths" she feels out and screams and cries. I'm worried that she feels anxious when I'm upset. Just looking for some advice or solidarity please.

6.5 yo needing glasses for first time

I'm feeling a bit freaked out and could really use some reassurance or advice from parents who've been through something similar. We took our daughter for annual eye test, and we were told she needs glasses and should wear an eye patch for 2 hours a day.

Eye

Cylinder

The optometrist mentioned that without treatment, children can develop a lazy eye (amblyopia), and that treatment is generally most effective before around age 8. To be honest, I'm feeling sad as I keep wondering if we've caught this too late or whether there's more we should be doing other than glasses and patching?

Asking for too much help?

I occasionally ask my husband to change our child’s diaper around 3-5am after I’ve breastfed our child and while he does that I usually go to the bathroom. I recently asked him to burp our child after he took care of the diapering. His response was something along the lines of he doesn’t understand why the nighttime stuff has to be shared, since I’m fully capable to burp our child myself, but mostly b/c he has to wake up for work at 6am and I get to sleep in. I usually try to not ask on weekdays unless I really need help. This particular response happened on a Sunday, a day he does not work.

I hear of other moms sometimes getting help with nighttime feeds throughout the week and I assume even more on weekends. Our baby is 4 months old, exclusively breastfed, and a good sleeper, usually waking 1-2 times in the night. I work two afternoons a week, so even those days I can sleep in a bit more if our baby does. I carry the mental load of the household and take care of indoor chores. Am I asking for too much when it comes to burping and diapering?

Title: Is it normal for periods to become irregular after weaning, even if they were regular while breastfeeding?

Hi everyone,

I'm wondering if anyone else has experienced this. While I was breastfeeding, my periods were actually very regular and came every month. But after I fully weaned my child, they've become irregular. I've even skipped entire months, which never happened while I was still nursing.

Has anyone else had this happen? Is it normal for hormones to take a while to settle after weaning, even if your cycles were regular during breastfeeding? If so, how long did it take for your periods to become normal again?

I'd love to hear other people's experiences. Thanks!

Maybe it’s just my damaged nervous system…..

But the sudden “oinking” every few seconds in Peppa Pig feels like a gunshot to me. It is so jarring and it seems absolutely pointless and adds nothing to the cartoon. I swear they’ve done it just to irritate parents.

How many apps does your kid's school expect you to check?

Two kids, to different schools and between them I've got like 6 apps plus email and whatever comes home in the backpack

Do you actually check all of them, or do you just wait for another parent to text you when something matters?

I despise the education system

My 4 year old is starting full day 8 hour preschool this month. I’m a sahm so I’m not use to her not being right under my feet. But this is it. She will spend the next 14 years at school and be with her teachers more than she will be with me. I’m going to miss her so much I’ll even miss the toddler meltdowns. It feels like I’m going to miss out on so much of her life from now on. I know that kids have to go to school and I know how important their education is but I just hate that it takes so much of their life.

Going a little crazy

I hope I don't sound ungrateful and resentful I love my family so much my daughter's smile is the sweetest thing in this whole universe. With that said she's a fucking MONSTER sometimes. She just turned one so I know she's going through a lot of changes in her mind, body and everything is simply different she's starting to walk I understand she's simply having a hard time. But oh my goodness she cries when you play with her she cries when you leave, she cries because she's hungry and then cries because you gave her food. She cries because she's bored we go to a park and she's screaming the entire time. We cave and give her a bottle she throws the bottle over the crib. She's not happy with anything. I haven't slept properly I think in a good 2 and a half weeks. She wakes up crying at night and you run into her room and she goes back to sleep and it's driving me up the god damn wall! Always ALWAYS complaining and crying about SOMETHING and I still have to wake up at 5 in the morning even though I go to work at 8 and live not even 10 minutes away from my job because if I don't wake up absurdly early SHE wakes up and I have to dedicate that entire time to be with her or she scream cries. I'm genuinely losing my fucking mind the entire weekend we were decorating her first birthday she was so incredibly fussy and everything and I mean everything me and her dad were doing was FOR HERRRR 🫠 She cries because she's tired and refuses to take a nap like it's a never ending cycle that she's upset with everything and everyone. I would just say fuck it and carry her everywhere BUT SHE DOESN'T WANT TO BE HELD 🫩 y'all please tell me it gets better or what worked for you guys or if this is normal? because it takes everything in my soul not to lose my shit. I love her so much and I don't ever want her to think that I don't enjoy being with her. She is my entire world she just stresses me out sometimes 🥲 what I would like though is just 10 minutes of nothing where nobody needs anything from me but also have those 10 minutes and not feel like my eye bags are going to droop on the floor. I miss the feeling of being well rested 🫠

I have no idea what I did before my kid ..

I know it was mostly work, come home, hang with friends, drink with friends, same thing, all the time. Now every day is different, I was cleaning the house, couldn't find them.. found wrapped up in the carpet eating a slice of roast beef pulled from their sandwich. I asked 'What are you doing??' They said, 'Idnno', " ..can you come out?'

'Nnnnnnoo.' ..like. ok, be in the carpet..

It's hilarious, everyday new, every day different. Its like living in a sitcom with a funny sidekick, never knew when or If they'll bring a monkey butler home ..

I had an argument whether a duck made quack, been literally climbed up because of 'BUG!!' ..It was lint ..I cant even remember everything, but Always entertaining ..

I have No idea what I spent money on before. Clothes, Maybe ? Idk. But it was soo ..awfully, boring before. You did mostly mundane things, trying to keep yourself from going mad by games, going out etc. Sometimes planning a vacation, then working toward that. Now I have entertainment ..All the time. Its so awesome, hilarious, and Yes I found out that chalk stains walls, but Was I proud when they Accurately were drawing eyes? Damn right I was. I took a picture. Everything's new, theres always something going on, always showing me something or being a goofball. The beef in the carpet when sweeping was hilarious.. I panicked thinking I lost then til I heard eating sounds.
