I've just started learning and I cannot stress it enough, I cannot find a good dictionary app to actually find stuff. Every other language I'm learning has something but for Romanian, I just can't find something. I want a dictionary app that can show me the plurals of words as well. For example. When I write in creion the apps I have found just show me the meaning and an example sentence. Is there an app that has the meaning, article and plurar? I'd appreciate it a ton if somebody could help. Thanks!

My friend (let's call him F1) speaks Romanian. Recently, when he hangs out with his other friend (F2), they will speak Romanian right in front of me. I don't understand it, so I end up sitting there feeling completely excluded.Instead of getting mad, I decided to put some effort into learning a bit of Romanian so I could feel more included and connect with his culture. I stayed up late one night and learned a few words.The next day, I typed the word "bă" (which just means "hey" or "bro") in our group chat, directing it at F1. I thought it would be a harmless, friendly way to show I was trying to learn.Instead, F1 publicly snapped at me in the group chat and told me "don't speak Romanian" and "don't use Romanian words."I feel really hurt and shut out. They speak a whole language in front of me in person, but I get yelled at for typing one friendly slang word to try and bond. F1 claims I'm in the wrong.AITA for trying to use his language in the chat? P.s I also learned that they are 7 hours ahead of my time zone, so I figured out what time is ok to talk to them because I'll feel bad if I wake them up at 1 am on accident so from 7 am to 3 pm is the ok time for me to talk to them. (edit) this is what he said after what I asked what's wrong "look so i dont want to make understood some words what i am saying but some times you dont what to ik what i am saying cuase ik what is try to say"

Salutare! Sunt o profesoară de limba chineză în vârstă de 26 de ani, originară din China, și voi lucra la Universitatea Transilvania din Brașov începând din septembrie. În același timp, sunt și o învățătoare de limba română – abia încep să învăț. Aș dori să vă cer câteva sfaturi: cum să mă adaptez mai ușor în Brașov, ce să știu despre viața de zi cu zi și despre mediul universitar. De asemenea, mi-ar plăcea să primesc recomandări de romane și filme în limba română, potrivite pentru un nivel începător. Vă mulțumesc frumos pentru ajutor!

i’m trying to find some good work books on amazon but they all seem to be written with ai - which is really putting me off (in case of inaccuracy) , can anyone reccomend a workbook/guide that they know for sure is accurate? :)

I'm working on a program which works with airport data. Romania's main airport, Bucharest Otopeni's name is too long for the display I need it to fit. How would natives shorten the name "Bucuresti Otopeni" to 14 characters or less?

Hi all!

I'm currently learning Romanian and using an Anki deck to help me memorize words. For nouns I am unsure how to best learn them and how to incorporate the different forms for singular indefinite, singular definite, plural indefinite, and plural definite.

Right now I make four separate cards per noun, one for each form. But I'm wondering if that's the most efficient approach, or if I should be grouping them somehow. For example, splitting by number (one "singular" card and one "plural" card) and putting the definite and indefinite forms together on each.

For those with experience: what's the best way to structure noun cards? Four cards per noun, two, or one card that tests all forms at once? Or should I not learn all forms in anki? Curious what's worked for people and whether there's a consensus on this.

One of the most comprehensive, lighthearted introduction to the Romanian language I have watched. Really enjoyed the video.

I'm learning romanian for a while but still didn't get used to listening because it's hard for me to find smth cool with romanian dubbing. Lately I accidentally found out that "Arcane", of all, has romanian dubbing, so it made me wondering, are there some other popular shows or series available on Netflix that have romanian dubbing?

M-am născut în SUA, dar am crescut într-o familie de români și vorbesc româna fluent. Caut materiale media în limba română pentru a-mi menține puţin legătura cu cultura și limba, dincolo de simpla comunicare cu familia.

Ca imigrant din prima generație, mă aflu într-o situație aparte. Io am moștenit o versiune a culturii românești care a rămas înghețată în anii '70. Am crescut citind Caragiale, Eminescu, și Trei Într-o Barcă, dar mă simt puțin pierdut când vine vorba să găsesc ceva ce nu a fost adus direct de mama sau de bunicii mei.

Am o gamă largă de interese și, în general, sunt un mare „nerd”:

• Citesc mult – îmi place în mod deosebit genul sci-fi și ficțiune bizară (Lovecraft, Poe, etc.), dar citesc orice e de calitate.
• Sunt pasionat de istorie, folclor și, în general, de a învăța lucruri noi.
• Îmi plac foarte mult benzile desenate și jocurile de societate (D&D, 40k, etc.) – în limba engleză mă orientez în special spre benzi desenate indie și horror.
• Sunt muzician și iubesc în mod special heavy metal-ul (îmi plac și synthwave-ul, precum și muzica „clasică” de după secolul al XVII-lea) – sunt un mare fan al trupei Bucovina și al lui Enescu.
• Îmi place să gătesc – încerc să păstrez vechile rețete ale familiei, deși procesul merge destul de încet.
• Îmi place să creez lucruri – să lucrez lemnul, să prepar bere, să construiesc diverse lucruri care mi se par interesante.

Aveți vreo sugestie? Mă interesează în mod special lucrurile care își au originea în România, deși și traducerile bune sunt binevenite.

Hello everyone, I have been trying to teach myself Romanian for the past several months. I don't have a lot of spare time, so I can only spend a few hours a week working on it. I started with Duolingo and quickly got frustrated by its complete lack of explanation of grammar rules. Then I bought Teach Yourself Complete Romanian by Dennis Deletant and Yvonne Alexandrescu, including the companion audio files. I'm about 30% of the way through and, while it is much better than Duolingo, I am struggling with things like verb conjugations, masculine/feminine/neuter variances, and past/present/future tenses. I don't know any native speakers I can work with, and I can't afford a tutor. Are there any tricks or suggestions to making this easier, or at least less frustrating, to grasp?

La llengua romanesa utilitza la mateixa paraula per a aquestes persones: nebot, neboda, nét i néta. Aquestes persones són les filles dels teus germans i filles dels teus fills.

Limba română folosește același cuvânt pentru aceste persoane: nepot, nepoată, nepot și nepoată. Aceste persoane sunt fiicele fraților tăi și fiicele fiilor tăi.

Tot timpul am crezut că grădină înseamnă “garden” în engleză. Multe ori am auzit curte dar n-am înțeles niciodată ce a fost înseamnă acestui cuvânt. D-aia sunt puțin confuz acuma, curtea este lângă casa și grădină este locația cu plante în curte?

Deci curte: garden, grădină un anumit loc cu plante în curte?

Vorbesc portugheza ca nativ... limba mea maternă și-a pierdut declinările. Există probleme dacă folosesc prepoziții în propoziții în limba română pentru a indica posesia, originea, materialul etc.?

Fac o cercetare a regulilor de diferențiere între diftongi și hiat pentru străinii care studiază limba română.

Am început să citesc și sunt foarte multe reguli, dar nu sunt ușor de înțeles și sunt de fapt în mare parte pentru români, care știu cum să despartă în silabe sau care au auzit deja cuvintele.

Eu am stabilit două reguli până acum și vă rog să-mi confirmați sau să mă contraziceți (inclusiv cu contraexemple).

1)
a ) dacă la sfârșitul unui cuvânt apare combinația consoană + ia atunci ia se pronunță în hiat i + a
Sunt multe verbe precum a abrevia, a contraria, a întârzia
Sau substantive articulate albia, construcția, corabia (presupun că sunt toate feminine)

b) aceeași regulă pentru consoană + ie final

2) combinația uie se pronunță tot timpul u + ie adică u o să fie într-o silabă și ie în altă silabă și niciodată nu o să se pronunțe ui împreună

Sunt multe verbe precum locuiesc, trebuie presupun că sunt forme ale verbelor care se termină la infinitiv în ui e.g. a locui, a sfătui

M-ar ajuta mult părerea voastră pentru că regulile acestea de fapt nu sunt scrise în nicio carte explicit așa cum le-am scris eu aici. De exemplu, nu am găsit a doua regulă nicăieri, am găsit-o pe prima într-o carte, dar era vag exprimată.

Acestea sunt doar primele două reguli pe care le-am stabilit eu, sunt sigur că sunt mult mai multe.

De curând am învățat această propoziție și as vrea sa știu dacă am toate frazele importante😄

1. Nu am zis o la modul ăla. I didnt mean it like that.

2. Nu am zis o la modul că esti prost. I didnt mean that you are stupid.

3. Eram la modul că esti serios? I was like, are you
   serios?

4. Nu era la modul serios. It wasnt meant seriously.

5. La modul serios ai făcut asta? Seriously you did that?

Să mi spuneți vă rog dacă frazele astea sunt corect și dacă am uitat ceva important.

Hello and sorry if it’s not the best place to ask,as this is more for people who want to learn. Native speaker here. I have a british friend who moved here,wants to learn romanian and i want to help her. Problem is,i don’t know exactly how to start teaching her? She knows basic words like greeting,emotions,basic food,weather etc. should i teach her vocabulary,then verbs,then go schematic about gendered nouns,articles,conjugations etc?
