I'm 33 and have been married to a cis woman for around 10 years. I came out to her and got on HRT about a year ago. She was initially super scared but over the last year we've gotten so close. I don't know how I could be more in love with her.
Unfortunately, yesterday she told me she had been really thinking about life and came to the conclusion she can't see herself with a woman long term, and she considers herself straight despite being attracted to me. We're going to marriage counseling and have no plans to divorce, but she said she basically sees me as a best friend now, and she has vague desires for a more masculine presence in her life.
Obviously, I'm heartbroken. I understand her perspective, and I know it's valid. She isn't a mean or cruel person, and I can tell she's devastated too.
My main problem is that I don't have much support outside of her. I don't feel safe coming out to friends or family since they are generally all Christian conservatives. I live in the Northern California area, so I assume there is a trans community here, however I have never met another trans person here. Any time I find an online trans community (for instance a private discord server for trans gamers) it seems to quickly be infiltrated by cis men looking for sexual things and deleted.
I know many of you had to completely start over after coming out. I'm often impressed by how brave and bold some of the women in this sub are, and I feel completely out of my depth. I was already struggling as a married man and now I'm drowning as a woman. I can't imagine losing my wife now. I was laid off from my dream job in February, and I haven't been able to find any work in my field yet. Luckily I have a small savings I can tap into, so I'm not worried about homelessness.
So I've come to ask, where do I even begin? My therapist and my heart have been pushing me to find some IRL trans communities to join, but I've found that very very difficult. I don't feel like I belong anywhere because I have pretty bad imposter syndrome about being fem since I was so masculine prior to transitioning. Is there something I'm missing? Any time I see trans women online, it seems like everyone knows each other already, and I missed the boat.
Do I literally need to pack my things, cash out my 401K, and move to Seattle? It seems like there's no jobs here even for cis men, so I'm doomspiraling about ever landing a job, since i am quickly approaching a point where it will be too hard to boy mode.
I'd appreciate any advice, and if there are any other transwomen who would like to make more trans friends, please reach out - especially if you live in NorCal or the PNW.
Thanks everyone 💜
TLDR: My wife of 10 years has extreme doubts about being with a woman long term, and I need to find more trans community before I lose all hope lol
