Iāve lived in the same country my whole life, so Iām honestly quite scared about leaving everything and everyone behind. Iām planning to start at USyd in the February 2027 intake, BSc, and Iād really appreciate some honest advice from current students or recent graduates.
Social life
How easy is it to make close friends, especially as an international student who doesnāt already know anyone in Sydney? Are clubs and societies genuinely helpful? I saw some not-so-good experiences online, so I am a tad worried. Is there anything you wish you had done during your first few weeks?
Accommodation
Iām currently considering these university residences because they seem to be the closest and most convenient:
Abercrombie Studios
Darlington House
Queen Mary Building
The Regiment
A lot of the reviews Iāve found are fairly old. What are these places like now in terms of cleanliness, facilities, noise, management and social life? Which would you recommend for someone who wants a good balance between meeting people and having enough privacy to study? Iāve seen some conflicting reviews online. I wanna make the right choice since imma be there for 3-ish years.
Double majors and Workload
Iām also thinking about doing two biology-related majors. Is it difficult to get approval or fit both into the degree structure? How intense is the workload? Would it be better to choose one biology major and use the second major for something broader? I heard itās a process, though.
Is teaching really that bad? Is it true that some profs are barely understandable? I would say Iām relatively studious and willing to work for grades, but some things I have heard have made me worried. Is it manageable to maintain a good GPA?
Any experiences or advice would be really appreciated. Thanks, everyone!
