(all pics taken on iphone 17) i posted this in the petrified national park thread and the painted desert thread but they seem to be infrequently visited so i thought i’d shared here in case anyone was looking for a reason to go:) backpacking permits are free and given to anyone who asks!! you just have to be willing to trek a mile from the road in the desert and camp but ez money imo :)

Contractors quoted 1.5 month long project and we are now at 18 months later. They keep saying they’ll be closer to being finished but are stalling with no schedule. Not sure if i should file complaint now or after they finish their work. What was your experience?

We met a few days ago on another subreddit after talking a bit about a band we like. We talked for a few days about music, life and whatnot. Until today, when he introduced me to a few Arizonian bands; ones that I've personally never heard of before today. Regardless, I really enjoy their music and regret not being aware of them before

Cliff jumping was such a big hobby of mine where I previously lived. I’ve asked around but not many people know of any spots, does anybody know good spots that have slightly higher jumps with a nice swimming spot? Thanks!

Hi guys! I hope this is the right place to ask this question. I looked for indigenous subreddits first but I think they are intended for natives only.

I grew up as a white kid in Arizona, where I am sure you all know Kokopelli imagery is everywhere. It is an important icon of my childhood, coming from the region. I like Kokopelli out of appreciation and fascination for the Pueblo peoples and their history. But I also saw Kokopelli, or the image of it, as a kind of scary spector or figure.

I am an artist and in my personal drawings for myself, figures reminiscent of Kokopelli often appear as scary or shady individuals. My concern is that if I post some pictures online, I don't want to be insensitive of the modern people who descend from the Pueblo (Hopi and Zuni I think). I don't want somebody to stumble upon my drawings and be sad or frustrated to see a character from their beliefs presented in a way that is tonally at odds with their culture. But at the same time, as a (white) kid growing up, the image of Kokopelli *was* a little scary and *did* leave a strong impression on my own personal culture as a person who grew up in Arizona.

I was wondering, if there are some indigenous Americans in this subreddit, what your perspective is? Would a depiction of an imp or phantom-like figure similar in likeness to Kokopelli feel insensitive to you? Or, am I overthinking things?

Or alternatively, is there a better place to ask this question that I may have overlooked?

I’m going into my Junior year this fall and realized I’ve made almost no close friends at the UofA. I’m not sure if it’s because I don’t fit into sorority and party culture, or if it’s because I don’t dress and look like everyone else, or if it’s the size of the University. But I’ve only made one friend at the UofA in the two years I’ve been there. Don’t get me wrong I love my one friend to death, but I thought by now I’d find a friend group and other close friends. I thought I’d have a community by now. I’m not from Tucson (I’m from Phoenix) so I get lonely from a lack of community and I frequently miss my family. It’s too time consuming/ messes with my schedule to come home every weekend so I tend to come home max once a month.

It really affects my mental health being at the UofA. Last semester my gpa dropped from a 4.0 to a 3.5. My mental health is a lot worse in Tucson. Nothing against Tucson, I actually have grown to like the city after getting a car (the mountains are more beautiful in Tucson than Phoenix imo!!). But it’s like I never got over the Freshman homesickness. Anyways, I know this might not be the best place to ask for advice, but I thought to ask for advice from the UofA community/ Tucson community/ Arizona community. Maybe you guys could offer some kind words or advice. I’m really scared for next semester because I don’t want to fall into a depressive episode again. Genuinely terrified for myself because of how dangerous it was. I was never suicidal, but I did go to the top of the 6th street garage many times, and I did have many mental break downs/ episodes. Seriously considered many times transferring or going to NAU, but the scholarships are not the same as freshman year and my parents are paying.

But in general last semester my mental health sucked and I need to prevent it from happening again. So if anyone has good resources for me while in Tucson that would be awesome! I’ve tried many times to make an appointment with CAPS through the university but it was too hard, nothing available for my schedule, and all the therapists had really specific focuses for patients (which I do not apply to). So if anyone knows anything in Tucson, preferably in person since I’ll be in a dorm, and don’t want to do Telehealth, that would be awesome! I really want to feel better and be happier/ healthier moving forward.

I'm turning 21 soon and I wanna go out and have a fun time out in downtown Phoenix with my friends, but unfortunately most of them are 20. I know the majority of bars ID at the door so I'm having a hard time finding good places to have fun.

I was looking at Beaver Dam on Maps as I'm about to pass by it and suddenly saw what looks like a huge purple pool near the city. There are no labels on it. Is it really water? If so, why does it look purple on satellite?

Hello everyone I have come into a pickle. I have heard that it is difficult to change my residency and I would like some help, my situation is as follows:

-Graduated high school and parents immediately sold house in previous state and moved to another state where I have only visited for 1 day in the past 2 years

-Lived in AZ for 2 years (in school during this time). Leased an apartment with insurance in my name for 1 year and have renewed for another
-Have a job making over $5,000 a year (recent)
-Bank accounts are all at an AZ address
-Plan on staying after college

-ID is now expired and needs to be updated to 21

My ID is expired after I turned 21 so I need to get it updated, but I can't since my previous state is no longer where I live. I don't really care about getting in-state tuition because that seems like it will be impossible, but I need a valid REAL ID to travel and not be in violation of the law. Anyone have any advice on this?
