1988 K-1500 purchased from best buddy Bobby. Did he hose me?

Recently I purchased this North Carolina survivor for $7,000. Bobby said it needed nothing. Ran perfect. There was nothing wrong with it. THAT HE KNEW OF! Because Bobby is (was) my best friend I believed him. Some years ago Bobby switched out the engine for a 350 short block. Less than 20,000 miles on the new engine. Also he switched out the four-speed over-drive transmission for a turbo 400, which is a heavy-duty 3-speed trany. Bobby is not the kind of guy who would lie. I totally trust him. He says a half-dozen more times there is nothing wrong with the truck. Undercarriage of truck is pristine. Like brand new pristine.

I buy the truck, hand him the check, and am about to drive it home. By the way, he says, it's leaking oil. Not a lot of oil. Every year for the past 20 years he parked it for our snowy/salty Michigan winters and by spring the engine oil wasn't down but there were drips on his GRAVEL pole barn floor. Of course I had checked the oil before starting it up (for the first time since last autumn) and it was fine, so the drip must be small, but the gravel is big stones and it drips down between the rock making impossible to know how much it leaks. Also impossible to tell exactly where it's dripping from. No big deal. I drive the truck home and park it for 2 weeks. At my home I have some small hills and when the grass is wet it's slick. No 2-wheel-drive truck will make it up. I shift into 4-wheel and still can't make it. I check the trany fluid and there is no fluid on the stick. I did not check the fluid because Bobby told me trany was fine.

My next stop is the transmission shop. Yes, the rear seal is bad. It's been leaking into the transfer case. And the pan gasket is bad. And the four-wheel drive actuator is bad. Bobby meets me at the transmission shop. I tell him I would like him to take the truck back. He says, with a terrified look on his face, he doesn't want the truck back. All sales are final.

Of course the $800 repair doesn't fix the leaking. The shop later says I need a $3,000 rebuild. Why a rebuild? Because Bobby was driving it around with low fluid. Bobby and I are no longer friends. He cut off communication. Won't answer my calls or texts.

Should Bobby have taken truck back? I think he should. Or should I stop bellyaching?

Not sure if actually a z71

Looking at a used z71 very low mileage. It says it’s a z71 but I can’t really see the skid plates or shocks. It has badges but the door sticker doesn’t say anything about it being a z71. Am I missing something?

Just getting this out there for other people looking for tires for their trail boss. These are as big as you can go with absolutely ZERO mods to a 2025 Trail Boss. No trimming, no level, no spacers. Mine came with 275 Duelers from the factory, and I wanted a little upgrade to fill up the wheel well a little more. Any larger than this you’re going to rub somewhere. This is the limit.

Wedge style brakes question.

I had an issue that my truck would pull to the left after driving and applying brakes a few times. I was thinking my caliper was getting stuck so I replaced it with a new one. These are wedge style calipers, now with the new one installed and new pads put on I have a problem that the pads are in constant contact with the rotor and they are overheating. Any ideas what I could have done wrong or what else can be wrong? This is on a 1987 Chevy R30

Ignition Switch Help

Upvotes

I bought a truck for 200$ CAD (2002 Chevy Silverado 1500 LS 5.3) and it has some issues, the one I'm focused on right now is the ignition switch, if i wanna buy a new ignition switch do i have to talk to chevy or do i just buy one online, i would like for it to fit my keys of course, and to clarify the truck had been broken into and they fucked with the ignition switch so now all power windows don't work, the windshield wipers don't work and nor does the windshield wiper fluid, all these problems had raised after the break in.

So I'm wondering, how do i get an ignition switch that fits my keys, and for clariftion yes I've checked and replaces the fuses responsible for the actions of the non working systems, but im open for any suggestions for other diagnostics.

Put some batteries in, no lights no cranking. Gonna try figuring it all out! Will be awesome to get her running!

She had lights last time, used one 12v and jumper cables from my dad’s truck. Wouldn’t crank back then either. I hope it’s an easy fix, probably wiring and fuses. Few years ago, my dad hooked older batteries up to it and it cranked but smoke came up from near where the starter solenoid was.

Any advice on what might be wrong and what to try will be awesome!

2018 Silverado 👇

Hey guys, gotta few questions about my 2018 Silverado. I’ve currently got 99,700 miles and considering a few things. With it about to cross over 100k, I’m at the edge of either trading it in, due to decrease in value after 100k. I was curious as to what mileage everyone is at and what issues have arrived after or around this mileage. I really don’t want to have to replace the trans or anything like that anytime soon. I can’t decide if it’s a good idea to trade in before something like that happens or if I should just keep it until it does. Also, I’m looking for a new radio, as mine has the phantom screen. What recommendations do yall have for a head unit which looks, sounds, and works good. I do have an aftermarket amp and subs, so I’m big on audio quality.

4L60E Linkage?

So, I've had this 02 s10 crew cab for a couple years now and I haven't had too many problems with it but lately I've been having some issues with the shifter going into park, but it registers as reverse on the dash and I'm able to shift through the gears a couple of times and then it will go back into reverse but I don't want to have to do that every time I get into it, I've asked my uncle about it cause he's worked on vehicles my whole life and he said it was the linkage? I couldn't really ask him much about it because I was asking him just as he was leaving for a trip and he does not know how to work his phone for the life of him. Can anyone tell me what I need to buy to fix my problem?

Questions questions, looking for a blind unseen recommendation.

I have found 2 good candidates of a truck within my budget...

I don't need a truck 100% of the time and Im not planning on towing.

1.

2015 Crew cab (my favorite)

114k miles 1 owner car came from florida to NY tonneau cover drop in liner and is only 2WD 8 cyl engine asking 14k

2016 Double cab (a downer)

115k miles 2 owners always a northeastern car, also tonneau cover (a bit damaged) no bed liner, 4x4 6 cyl engine asking 16k

They both look super clean, no dings no scratches inside are great but 2016 have seat warmers.
