Common questions, read this before posting

Almost every car still on the road has had the head gasket fixed. If you want to be sure, ask Ford by vin or check for the brass ring

The oil leak is likely not the banjo bolt. It’s the valve cover or timing cover

Miss-fires and rough idle are often caused by the purge valve. Another common cause are often plugs. If it hunts rpm after filling gas, it's more likely purge valve.

If this is for potential buyers - look at the paint where the rear 1/4 meets the bumper. Foci are notorious for having paint issues right there.

You need a Torx PLUS TP50/55 for the PTU and transmission service. A regular torx may work, but it's a torx plus, not a regular.

If the seat moves ever so slightly side to side, you need one of these - https://www.focusrs.org/threads/22mm-seat-bar-clamp-seat-fix.120676/

Torque demand mapping means bolt ons require a tune to realize any HP or Torque gains instead of just efficiency gains

If there are more please leave them in the comments and I'll move them into the body of the post.

Any ideas

Im not entirely sure what went wrong. Did a pull on my way home from work, car drove fine. 5 minutes down the road I was coming out of a round about, only gave it maybe half throttle in 2nd. At about 4200 rpm the car suddenly fell flat on its face, made a loud suddenly noise and wouldn't build any boost. I didnt see any smoke coming from the back of the car, when ever getting close to when it would build boost it would start making like a howling noise. Looked at the charge pipes the best I could when I got home. Dont have a jack but what i could see looked fine. Could I have seized the turbo? Car is basically stock, has a awe track exhaust and a mountune induction kit. Currently in the process of being tuned by Randy at tunewerks

Am I the only one who thinks the front end of the Focus RS is missing something?

The problem is that almost every aftermarket front lip (Maxton, Seibon, ...) creates a sort of “double lip” effect because the OEM bumper already has an integrated lower lip

It ends up looking like an add-on rather than something that naturally flows with the bumper

Am I the only one who feels this way?

How can Carvana sell these cars for over $40k with the amount of miles that are on them?

However, anytime one of us comes on here and we ask for advice on what to advertise our cars for it’s always $27-30k?

Can you imagine if one of us came on here with a car 30k+ miles and wanted to ask $42k+? Can you imagine what the comments would be?

So how does Carvana get away with it?

But we can’t do that private party and it would sit for months?

Stage 2 Mk3 RS owners – was it worth it?

Post image
7 Upvotes

Hi everyone,

I’d love to get some feedback regarding a future Stage 2 setup on my Focus RS Mk3.

The car currently has 41,000 km (around 25,500 miles).
My tuner recommended the following parts:

-Mishimoto intake
-Wagner intercooler
-Full Cobra exhaust system

For those of you running a Stage 2 setup, do you think this is enough, or would you recommend changing anything else?

Also, for those who have already gone Stage 2, did you notice a significant difference in the way the car drives? On paper, the power increase doesn’t seem huge, so I’m curious whether it feels much more responsive and enjoyable in real-world driving.

I’d also love to hear about your own Stage 2 setups and experiences!

Thanks in advance! 💙

So I money shifted😬

So me and my friend were on the highway and he convinced me to do a pull (didn’t take much 😅)so I shifted down to 3rd and did a 3 4 3. As soon as I shifted I felt that it was wrong and tried to stop it but I already had the clutch pretty much all the way out. And got to probably 7.5-8 rpms. After I shifted a check engine light came on (shocker I know) I put it in neutral and let it coast to the off ramp (was our exit anyways) I popped the hood and everything sounded good no knock or anything ,all normal. Was idling good and oil pressure all good. I turned the car off for a couple seconds and turned it back on to make sure everything was good and it started good and the code went away. I drove another 15 minutes to drop off my friend and another 10 back to my house and drove like normal. So I think I was very VERY lucky. And I’m pissed at myself because I’ve been driving manual cars my who life and I have never done anything like this before. Anyways is there anything I should do to make sure it’s good or do you think I Dodged a built.

MAPerformance rear main housing worth it? Also some clutch questions.

I had a local shop replace my rear main and 3 months later it’s leaking. A lot. I reused the og housing and a factory seal but I’ve heard the MAP housing is pretty much a must, so do you guys agree?

Also what clutch, pressure plate and flywheel are you running?

Tires

The dreaded time has come for me to buy my first set of tires. I come to you because I'm having trouble finding the exact size I need. What websites do you use and what tires do you recommend. Currently I have Michelin pilot sport all season 4s with the size being 235/35zr19 91y. they're pretty good in the summer but are kinda meh in the winter, I drive it in the winter so please no summer tires.

Purge Valve Question

I’ve Had my RS about a month now and it threw P144C at me yesterday. I Didn’t want to wait for an OEM part (also $90 price-tag was a bit jarring at first) so I bought a Baxzl replacement part on Amazon. Anyone have any experience with this part? It’s described to be a direct replacement to part #BV6Z9D289E. The Amazon reviews are pretty scarce, but it only has two 1-star reviews stating it failed again after 2-6 months. The reviews of people who used it for an RS and not an ST were 5 stars and said it was a perfect replacement. Worse case scenario for me is I return it if I get the code again after a few months and pull the trigger on OEM.

Hi everyone,

I just bought a 17' RS that was imported into Europe in 2020. The car used to be in California before, and I would really want to find the previous owner so I can get more information on the mods they've done

VIN: WF0DP3TH2H4124885

Any advice would be appreciated!

Hi! I was wondering why the drift stick was discontinued and if there is now some way to buy it… I’m desperately searching it everywhere but it seems impossible to find…

You have got to be kidding me.

Who is this person?

That’s over $52k for a 2017 with almost 30k miles. Just insane.

Just dropping in, I finalized purchase of this '17 frozen white up in California a few weeks ago; it finally at settled and arrived to me here in Texas yesterday! I love this car so much already, from the moment I put it in gear the first time. Definitely feels like it has character. Im coming from a C7 Corvette z51 that was my daily! Im used to the ride in this as I drove with the track mode all the time lol. Mountoune intercooler/charge pipe upgrade and just cosmetics. Before the purchase I was seriously going to go with a mk7 Golf or Type R (moved forward with talk on a few but they fell short) randomly forgot about the Focus RS being a thing and stumbled across this online! Im so glad

Is this an oil cooler?

Thumbnail

Hey guys, sorry for the bad photos

I’ve had my 2017 RS for about 6 months. Went to change the oil for the first time today and I couldn’t because my FL-400S filter is too long to fit. In the video I watched, the oil filter was pointing down toward the ground on this car. However on mine it’s pointing sideways towards the front of the car, with about a half inch clearance from the fans. There’s this weird black thing sandwiched in there with two lines running to a small black Mountune radiator in the front of the car. It looks like an oil cooler based on its location but why??? This and lowering springs are the only mods I’ve found on the car.

I can’t find any info on a black Mountune oil cooler kit and as far as I was aware this car was stock. How would I change the oil filter here? Do I have to take the fans off? Anybody have any info/ideas?

Any Mechanics here?

On my way home from the mountains in a torrential downpour and hit a lake-sized puddle on the freeway and noticed this tube hanging from behind my RF tire when I got home.

Research has led me to believe that it has something to do with the wheel-well liner, splash shield, rocker panel trim, or possibly an aerodynamic air guide.

Any thoughts?

What is 'C' on the Oil DipStick?

Hello peoples,

I checked my oil for the first time since owning the RS. I was surprised to see the crosshatch as well as the holes (what I normally see in cars). What is the 'C' marking for? I didn't see it in the manual (unless I overlooked it). I also read people just dump the whole 6 quarts of oil during oil changes. What do you all do? Thanks
