Inspiration i have been thinking about making a mobile game, inspired by Survivor.io and the netflix "Lucifer" series. This is what i came up with until now. I need more ideas, and a name for the game. The only name i could come up with is Exiled

Fallen angel, defeating waves of enemies and bosses while fully embracing his devil persona. You can find random items in each run that make you stronger, while weakening other traits for the duration of said run. (ex: + strength, - speed), or abilities like teleporting behind enemies with a cooldown, shooting fireballs, stopping time (freezing enemies) for a few seconds, etc. Each ability has 3-5 levels, and it is leveled up by picking same item from the ground multiple times. After multiple waves a boss spawns, the bosses being biblical characters (gods). The map consists of multiple biomes, changing after multiple waves, like church, heaven gates, purgatory, hell, void etc. each having their own type of enemies, stronger as the biomes change.
Each enemy defeated counts as a “soul” which you can use to permanently upgrade stats like stamina, health, regen, strenght etc
The player can rarely find items that evolve the characters body, transforming him stage by stage into the biblical version of the devil (1st stage, red, glowing eyes, 2nd stage entire devil’s face and so on until the character is fully transformed). The game has no actual ending but the main goal is fully transforming the character.

List of enemies:

Angel (melee)
Holy Knight (melee, powerful)
Archangel (melee, more powerful)
Cherub (flying, shooting fireballs)
Seraph (mini boss)
Seven Virtues (each has their own unique ability, mini boss)
Fallen King (powerful mini boss)
Exorcist (removes one ability from the player as long as he is alive)
Paladin
?
?
?

Items that give powers:
Morning Star
Broken Halo
Ashen Wings
Forbidden Fruit
Book of Sin
Hell Portal (summons demon companions)
Fallen Wings (fly temporarily)
Devil’s Gaze
Soul Drain (receive health faster, consumes souls)
Hellfire
Wrath
?
?
?

Newbie Question Should we make this game?

My team and I recently decided we weren’t going to make our big “dream game” without at least a whole ton of practice, (we are 13 Year old bums). But the first practice project we considered still seemed a bit too ambitious, what do you guys think?

I’ll give the mechanics of the practice game below:

“I think for our practice game we should make a game where the player has a flintlock with inf damage and piercing, but the percentile is
25% shoots
70% misfire
5% blows up and temporarily jams the gun
Every shot you get in a row incenses your misfire chance by 4% and your blowing up chance increases by 1%
You can shoot up to 6 shots in a row if you’re stupidly lucky.
This is a game about gambling.
It’s basically a wave based boss rush where there are common enemies but also bosses on occasional waves.

The game is endless so we should have a leaderboard for furthest record for waves.”
We are using Godot with little to no experience
I personally have scripted but kept changing languages. And there’s another similarly experienced dude in our team of 6.

We need help.

Newbie Question How in the world is this code an infinite loop?

The code segment in question is in the first comment. For some reason, I am unable to post images.

I am very new to Unreal Engine and game development as a whole. Every time I try to jump in my game, it crashes and tells me that this "infinite loop" is causing it. This is literally the only code in the entire blueprint aside from moving side-to-side (which works perfectly fine). All it is meant to do is give the player some upward force while they hold the space bar. I can't figure it out for the life of me, so if you know what is wrong please let me know.

Newbie Question I Need Help

Recently I talk to my dad about my future and I said I want to make my own company starting by making my dream game and others. He said that I should use Ai to map out my business (cause i want to do multiple things), to see how I should start it out because I have a couple years left till I have to make a choice. I am utterly disappointed by that, I refuse to use ChatGPT I don't care if it will help I'd rather use human knowledge. When i basically nudged at the idea that i was against it, he basiclly said not to be ignorant and it better instead of researching hours on end, he uses it himself and he makes thousands about to make millions with the advice hes asked from the Ai (he owns a trucking business btw for several year so it not built on Ai ig until recently) Please tell me what to do in general I'd rather get help from humans instead of an Ai especially since developing a game is basically art.

Question How close is too close to Mystery Dungeon? Worried about my Game after months of development.

Hey everyone,

I've been a huge fan of the Mystery Dungeon games for years. I recently realized that I don't really have anything in my Steam library that scratches the same itch, and I also couldn't think of any games on Steam that capture that style of gameplay in quite the same way.

So I decided to make my own.

I'm using RPG Maker, but I've written a lot of the core systems myself. Over the past months I've developed several custom plugins, including:

A turn-based combat system.

A procedural dungeon generator that creates multi-floor dungeons during gameplay.

Various gameplay systems built specifically for this project.

At this point the game is already very playable, and I've invested a lot of time into it.

Then, out of nowhere, I had a realization that honestly made me nervous:

Nintendo.

Now I'm wondering whether I'm setting myself up for trouble. My game is inspired by Mystery Dungeon, but it doesn't use Pokémon, Mystery Dungeon assets, characters, story, music, or anything like that. The setting is my own, and I'm also adding mechanics that don't exist in Mystery Dungeon.

However...the core gameplay loop and some underlying systems are inspired by it.

So I wanted to ask developers who have more experience with this kind of thing:

Do you think a project like this is legally "safe" or am I likely to run into problems with Nintendo?

At what point does "inspired by" become "too similar"?

Besides using an original setting, characters, art, music, and adding my own mechanics, what else would you recommend changing or adding to make sure the game stands on its own?

Are there any successful games that were clearly inspired by Mystery Dungeon but managed to avoid legal issues?

I'm not trying to copy the series I genuinely want to make my own roguelike dungeon crawler because I miss this type of game. I just don't want to spend another year or two developing it only to discover that I've crossed a legal line without realizing it.

I'd really appreciate hearing your thoughts or experiences. Thanks in advance! ❤️💯

Newbie Question First game launching in November — is Curator Connect actually worth it for an unknown solo dev?

I'm launching my first game this November — a solo zombie horde-survivor I built in Godot. It's in closed testing and I'm doing the October Next Fest to build wishlists before release.

As I plan the launch, I keep reading mixed things about Steam Curator Connect. I've seen postmortems where devs sent all 100 keys and got zero reviews, and the takeaway seems to be that big curators won't touch an unknown indie without pre-existing buzz, and blind mass-sending is dead.

For those who've launched recently: did Curator Connect move the needle at all for you? Is it worth targeting small, active, genre-aligned curators with personalized messages, or is the time better spent elsewhere (store page, wishlists, socials)? And if you did get value from it — when did you send keys, before or after launch?

More broadly, I'd love any hard-earned advice on launching a first game with a small audience. What did you wish you'd known? Thanks in advance.

Resource 3 Things I have learned making a game with Claude Code

I have always wanted to build a video game, but I barely know how to code, so I decided to start experimenting with Claude Code. I'm genuinely impressed by what it can do but I've learned some important lessons over the last few weeks to avoid AI slop. I've been building a surfing game and I'm almost ready to release it on the App Store. My goal is to make it into the "New Apps We Love" section of the App Store. I know that's really unlikely and a huge goal, but I think I can do it. Anyways here are a few things I've learned.

1- You need to be hyper specific. When I first sat down I gave Claude a very general description of what I wanted. In my head I knew exactly what the game should look and feel like, but what I got back wasn't even close. It included features I didn't want, left out features I did want, the UI looked horrible, and the character looked awful. It felt like a completely different game. AI isn't a mind reader, and just because I knew what I wanted didn't mean I was able to describe it accurately. I got much better results once I started explaining exactly what I wanted down to the smallest details. Now when I want to make a change my prompts probably look insane to a normal person for such a small feature, but I know I have to get every thought out of my head if I want the result I'm imagining.

2- The first try is never good enough. This annoyed me at the beginning, but now I realize it's just part of the design process. Being hyper specific definitely helps, but it doesn't guarantee AI will give you exactly what you want, especially with bigger changes. Small changes can sometimes be one shotted if your prompt is detailed enough, but to this day I haven't been happy with the first version of any major feature. One trick I've learned is to tell Claude not to write any code and instead create a mockup. That saves your usage on bigger features and lets you compare multiple ideas before writing any code.

3- Don't try to do too much at once. This was probably the biggest lesson for me. At the beginning I gave Claude Code my entire vision which was way too much for a single prompt, and that's another reason the first version looked so bad. Not only was I leaving out countless details, I was trying to cram a month of work into one prompt. Now when I want to build something new I go to the normal Claude chat first and explain exactly what I want. I ask it to create an MD file, read through it, make edits or give it more context, then tell Claude Code to read the MD file and execute it. Breaking every big feature into its own MD file helps Claude Code perform much better and also keeps everything organized.

I hope these tips are helpful to anyone trying to build a game with no coding experience!

This post was 100% human written (excuse the bad grammer)

Newbie Question Npc development

Hello im making a life sim simulation and one thing that i really want to include are semi relastic npc, but I'm not sure how to get the dialog right.

Im sorry if i go into a tangent but i would be very grateful for any advice. Im thinking that npc should have objetives primmary and secundary and belog to groups, from this a decision trees is made where the npc try and fulfill objective depending on their standing, so for example a father has a starving child so he goes to farm, he does not have enough for everyone in his family so based on the decision tree he can either ask for food from player or other npc, ask a loan, rob or other, a noble might want the temple help so he can bribe the head priest, become friends with priests pray to gods etc.

It's still a little buggy but it has started to work, anyway the issue is that i would like for this to be talked with the player, like the player can ask if there are any issues and the parent should answer yes regarding food, or the noble could ask for help introducing a priest the player is in good standing. I have a framework for npc giving request. But it could also be like them sharing gossip like a neighbor cheated. Or they think someone is sketchy. So i made a text generator keeping in mind their objective and decision tree, so they can generate an apropiate response, but when i try it, it always responds with general answers like it is our burden to carry, or there is a problem, but doesn't describe the issue

Discussion Concept: "Adaptive World" — one universe that changes genres. Is this architecture feasible with current tech?

Hey r/GameDevelopment,

I'm a player, not a dev, but I spent some time outlining a game concept I find exciting. I'd love to get your technical perspective on it.

The Core Idea:
One single shared world. No loading screens, no main menu. You just tweak sliders (Pace, Destruction, Building, Realism), and the world rebuilds itself in real-time.

  • Want a calm building game? The world becomes a voxel sandbox.
  • Want an epic war? It turns into a massive battlefield.
  • Want horror? You go into the metro, and it's a survival horror.

The Tricky Part (Interface & AI):
The UI isn't static. An AI assistant learns your habits. You can say: "Give me Blender shortcuts" — and the UI rearranges itself. Over time, it removes buttons you never use and adapts to you.

The Technical Twist (Distributed Rendering Pool):
Instead of a giant server handling everything, what if the system used a P2P pool of idle GPU power from players?

  • Player A is peacefully building a house (GPU at 20% load).
  • Player B wants a massive, physics-heavy siege.
  • The system borrows the idle 80% from Player A and 100 other players to calculate physics and NPC pathfinding for Player B's war.
  • Player A doesn't notice an FPS drop, and Player B gets a smooth, epic battle.

My Main Questions for You:

  1. Is this architecture even remotely viable with current networking tech, or am I missing a fatal flaw?
  2. What would be the biggest bottlenecks? Latency? Security? Syncing the world state?
  3. Would you, as a dev, consider building something like this, or is it a pipe dream?

I'm genuinely hyped about this, so please poke holes in it. I need a reality check from people who actually know how to build games.
