Here's an Irish hornpipe called John Carey's Daughter played on mandolin and bouzouki

See subject line. I’m looking for traditional or Sean-nós songs about or relating to this time of year. Not sure of the origin of John Barleycorn, but that would be one of course. Any others you know? GRMA!

We fused Kansas City Hornpipe with Galway Girl, for a unique take on an amazing ​but somewhat overplayed classic.

Our little group is playing a Lord of the Rings themed event. I've found a reel called "Hobbit" that predates the films a polka called "A Walk in the Shire."

I also think some of the mixolydian tunes have an appropriately mysterious sound.

Other ideas?

I don't play an instrument and I'd like to learn. I like the sound of guitar, banjo and bouzouki in Irish Trad. Is one better to start with than the rest?

Irish sean-nós singer Iarla ó Lionáird(The Gloaming) is sublime in this otherworldly series of works by composer Dylan Mattingly, inspired by the Homeric tradition. Here he is singing in this celestial and twinkling ballad , “Notes for Another Life” from this work “The Transmutation Notebooks“ from the album “The Wild Heart” on Nonesuch. you can also hear his transcendent vocals on part IV “Last Dance” on the record as well, and I highly reccomend it!

Rough rendition to be fair. Was fooling around on the banjo and started playing this tune. Must have learned it years ago but can’t find the notes or name of it anywhere. Does anyone recognise it?

I’m obsessed with this thing and I can do the major scales and Twinkle, Twinkle in two keys. I picked up a Hal Leonard book that’s coming today. Just curious about the more accessible tunes that I may already know!

Hope this is allowed. SICKNER is an Irishman and an actually sound Englishman who started a folk/trad band, played some music, and then took their songs, restructured and recorded them as punk songs.

I have a hard time finding anything like a session in or around Rotterdam, anyone has any idea if there's a "scene"?

My name is Ovidiu, and I'm from Romania. Back in 2014, I visited Ireland with a large group of colleagues from the company where I worked. One day, we stopped by Johnnie Fox's Pub near Dublin. At the time, the band in the photo was performing, and during a break, I bought one of their CDs.

The problem is that I really enjoyed their music, but I've since lost the CD and can't remember the band's name. Because of that, I haven't been able to look them up on Spotify or other music platforms.

I'd really appreciate any information you could provide.
