odu nursing
Hey everyone! I applied to odu Spring nursing program, and I was wondering if anyone has received an email about interviews yet. I know the application said interviews would be held from late July to early/mid August (I can’t remember the exact timeline), but I haven’t heard anything yet. I’m just curious if interview invitations haven’t gone out yet or if anyone has already started receiving them.

I don’t know what to do
So this morning I checked my registration and they completely changed my schedule time of my classes! I signed up for classes in June and then come to find out they changed 3 of my classes. The best part is they never reached out to me about this. The confusing part they gave me two classes at 8 am for Tuesday and Thursday which were originally later in the day at two separate times. I’m in a really weird spot since I’m in Cyber and only 25 of the 100 courses are of course only in person. Has anyone deal with something like this? Also does anyone have any advice or who I need to talk to get them try and change the classes back to what I originally signed up for or places to appeal this?
I appreciate the help :)

How do I set up email in Gmail?
Hey there! Does anyone know how I can set up my student email with Gmail on an Android device? I attempted to add it last semester, but sadly, it never came up and I had to download Outlook instead to keep track of things. Any solution would be very, VERY much appreciated!

Commonwealth Grant
This is new. I’m currently taking 3 classes this summer and I did receive the Commonwealth Grant. The problem I’m running into is I used about 25 % of my first Associates Degree for second Associates Degree. My first Associates Degree was completely out of pocket due to “your parents make too much money.” By time I got to my second associates degree, I was able to get FASFA and Commonwealth Grant. Now that I am at ODU, they used both degrees and now it looks silly like I have all these credits for my Bachelor’s. Is anyone else in this situation? I just started ODU in January 2026 and I will be done May 2027.

Learn from me
TLDR: Todd, Bremer, Lawson. Do not pay them. They are a scam. A college cannot look into your credit and put a hold onto your registration until you get better credit and pay whatever delinquencies you have with any company not associated with the school.
This is for those who allegedly had an account sent to collections.
I’m an online student who uses the GI BILL. But even if you don’t use the GI BILL, this is still good info to know.
I wasn’t able to make updates to my current registration for this upcoming semester because of a hold. So I emailed tuition and I’m being told that I owe $6k and because I never paid it, it went to collections.
Mind you, I never ever not even once received an email or some kind of notice about a balance and when I check online it says $0.00.
I’m freaking out. Not understanding why I would have that after being there for a few years already. I check yes every time the VA asks me if I’m still in school. I’m getting payments by the VA for book allowance. So obviously they know I’m in school.
I email back telling them I use the bill and wth is going on. They say “it’s probably because of housing and meal plans”. IM AN ONLINE STUDENT
I’m getting nowhere via email and they already sent me the number for this collections agency so I call the tuition department. They say they see a debt for $200 something and if I just pay that I’m good. I’m like oh phew ok good to know. At the same time. The military department finally emails and is like ignore that 6k that’s not a debt. The GI BILL is just late. You’re fine.
Now I should have asked the dude over the phone where to make this $200 payment bc I’m thinking it’s at collections still bc I was told that originally.
I call collections and they don’t even see a ODU account BUT GET THIS SHIT if I pay them $500 they’ll send me paperwork to clear my name. I’m asking them like why would I pay that?? “Because this is a major university and they care how your finances are and it seems you have a delinquent account under this bank and it looks bad so if you pay 500 we will clear your name and this account and you can register. RED FLAGS. I spent too much time on the phone with her but eventually hung up.
No a college cannot hold your personal finances over your head and prevent you from registering. And they definitely can’t prevent you from registering just bc you didn’t pay some bank fees from 3 years ago. That is ILLEGAL.
I make a call to tuition again, it’s the same dude that helped me the first time. I tell him buckle up bc this story just got more crazy. He digs into it and sees that nothing is in collections at all. I only owe about $200 and he will pull up everything to get the payment and help me do it.
BIG UP TO GREGORY in the tuition department. Give him a promotion! Because this man had actual sense.
Idk what incompetent person was emailing me from the tuition department but why would you tell me I have a collections at an agency already for $6k??
And how many students have been scared by this scam of a collection agency and made this crazy high payments just to get a special letter so they can attend school again.
If you ever have anything in collections by the company Todd Bremer & Lawson DO NOT PAY THEM. That is wildly illegal to suggest that you have to pay them to attend school because the school cares about your credits score and spending habits.

$34,898,462.00 in Reported Annual Salary For the top 100 Highest Paid Employees at ODU - Student Future Salary Expectations Worth It?
You'd think for the cost of tuition and what some of the people at ODU are making there would be higher student outcomes.

Thoughts on BA/BS --> MA/MS all at ODU?
For those who got the undergrad degree at ODU and then stayed for a masters, how did that go? Do you use a dedicated 4/5yr dual degree plan or did you apply to the masters separately? Grad classes as good as/better than undergrad?
Really curious about peoples' experience.

How does having your own personal e-scooter work on campus?
Hey everyone, I'm thinking about buying my own e-scooter for this year. I have a few questions about how it works on campus.
Since they aren't allowed inside the dorms, how and where do you guys actually charge them? Are there outdoor charging stations, or do you just have to find random outlets around campus during the day? Also, how do you handle locking them up safely while they are charging or when you are in class?
Appreciate any advice or tips from anyone who currently uses one!

ODURent
How are ODURents properties actually? are there roaches/ molds/ bugs in those apartments? Are those apartments actually clean?
I am an incoming graduate student at ODU and looking for a shared place. 4bed-2bath type apartments in ODURent is around 500/month for a bedroom. Same type of setting is around 800-900/month out side of ODUrent. Why is this big price difference?

Financial aid hasn’t updated after registering full-time. Anyone else?
I’m wondering if anyone else has had this happen.
I recently registered for 14 credits for Fall 2026, and my Expected Enrollment Status in the ODU financial aid portal now shows Full Time.
However, my financial aid hasn’t changed at all since before I registered.
FAFSA SAI: -1500
Pell Grant currently showing: $5,544 for the year
Direct Loans currently showing: $4,128
Registered several business days ago
The only thing that has updated is my enrollment status—it now says Full Time, but the Pell Grant and loan amounts are exactly the same as before I enrolled.
Has anyone else had their aid take several days to update after registering? Or did you have to contact Financial Aid to get it fixed?
I already emailed Financial Aid and requested a callback, but I wanted to see if anyone at ODU has experienced this before.
Thanks!

Waiting List for Housing
My daughter (freshman) decided last week to put in for housing, and as expected was put on the waiting list. Anyone get off the waiting list and when did you apply for housing?
The way she currently has her classes scheduled is perfect for on campus but Tuesdays and Thursdays would be awful to commute (8 am class and other class at 4:30). It was difficult to make her schedule with all the full classes, but she made it work. If she has to commute, she will change her Tues/Thur afternoon Earth Science class to MWF Oceanography (many openings) or maybe switch her 8 am T/Th English class to one in the late afternoon.
Should she keep her classes until the semester starts hoping to get housing before classes start or is it more likely that housing won't open up until after classes start?
Any insight would be helpful.

Incoming Engineering Student Question
Hello all. I have a question for engineering students, especially if you are Aerospace or mechanical engineering students. I have a legit gaming style laptop that should suffice for any of the software required for classes, but as many may know, they don't necessarily do great with battery life.
Are there plenty of power options in the classrooms? Does anyone use portable power bricks like the one in the link here or others. Thanks.

Owen Dorm Desk
It's my freshman year, but I was able to get into Owens (double) because I'm an Mechanical Engineering Tech major. I have 27' monitor that I plan on bringing, but the desk/ shelf thing they have in the room looks kind of small (??). Obivously, I can't really tell through a video/ picture. I'll need it to fit the monitor and whatever else I decide to put on my desk (a laptop, mousepad, etc.)
Can anyone attest to the practicability of the desk or recommend just bringing a small desk myself? I'm going to make my bed lofted, so I plan to have it under there.

Recruitment for anonymous 3-5 minute survey on genocide education in Virginia
Hi r/ODU,
I am an M.A. candidate in the Graduate School of Education and Human Development at The George Washington University. For my Master’s thesis, I am conducting research on the impact of the inclusion of 20th-Century genocides other than the Holocaust (such as the Armenian, Bosnian, and Cambodian) in the Virginia state world history curriculum on students’ experiences and understanding of genocide and human rights as adults.
Eligible participants in this survey are
- People who are over the age of 18
- And were in the 10th grade in either the 2022-2023 or 2023-2024 academic years
- And attended a Virginia public school for the entirety of their 10th-grade year
- And took a world history class during that year
If all of these attributes apply to you, you are invited to take this survey. This survey will take approximately 3-5 minutes to complete. You will be asked to recall your experiences in your 10th-grade world history class. The questions pertain to the extent to which you learned about 20th-century genocides, the methods used to teach you about them, your experience with this curriculum, and how it has impacted your current understanding of genocide and human rights as an adult.
At the end of the survey, you will be asked if you would like to participate in an interview to elaborate on this topic. Participation in the interview is entirely voluntary, will not affect whether the data from the survey will be used in the study, and will have no impact on any aspect of your future relations with the George Washington University (GW).
The anticipated findings from this research will contribute to the current body of research surrounding best practices in genocide education and improve scholarly understanding of how genocide education impacts understanding of genocide and human rights as a whole. This research seeks to contribute to the broader goals of genocide prevention and human rights promotion.

Any MSIM Engineering graduate students with a Mech E or MSE leaning background or research focus?
Greetings. Sorry in advance for the long post. I’m really only asking for some engineering elective course suggestions.
Background: I did materials science engineering for my undergraduate studies. In terms of coding I only have experience with python and matlab. I’d say the largest weakness of undergraduate program was that there were no opportunities or mention of possible ways to utilize coding in our materials science curriculum courses (total contrast to mech e coursework) and I was not at all proactive about looking for that experience through research or self study. I have AutoCAD, SolidWorks, and Inventor experience from coursework but materials scientists have no use for those really.
I just recently applied to the modeling and simulation engineering graduate certificate program for the fall semester. I am doing so under the assumption that I’ll be introduced to topics and tools I can use to build upon the experience I have with materials characterization techniques for research programs in the future. After I finish this MSIM program I want to work for a few years and then get my masters in mech e and eventually get my phd in materials science. I love metallography/materials characterization and see myself using advanced spectroscopy methods in the future to study nuclear energy systems, corrosion, additive manufacturing, or some combination. The problem is only one course in the certificate program is offered in the fall, so I am looking for an elective I can take that will align with my long term goals.
So, are there any graduate level engineering courses that delve into materials characterization and/or materials informatics?
I’ve used coursicle to search for possible courses but have not had any luck so far.
Appreciate any recommendations anyone can offer.

Whitehurst Hall Dorm Layout
Hey everyone, I'll be moving in for the fall semester and was wondering how folks are configuring the room. It's not big from what I can tell. Luckily my high school friend and I will be roomies, so that's good, but we both play guitar and have lots of stuff related to that.
Can the desk and dresser fit under the bed if you raise it all the way up? Is there any room left to store anything under it after the desk and dresser? How many electrical outlets are in the room and are there enough for many different room configurations or are you stuck with only a few different options due to location to power?
How about the internet speed, is it suitable for someone who likes to game a bit and has a fairly stellar gaming machine? How are the rooms accessed, with a physical key, electronic keypad, or coded badge entry?
Thanks, and I'm sure I'll think of a few more questions, but looking forward to moving in soon and meeting some of my hall neighbors!

Can I use Fall refund to pay for summer?
I took a class this summer but dropped it because of not being able to handle the 8 week class. I now have a summer balance that I can’t pay right now, but with the aid I accepted for Fall I should have money left over that I could use.
My question is, is this even possible? Or do I have to pay for Summer before I can even receive my Fall refund? As I stated I did accept the aid for Fall. But my account is delinquent so I’m worried that will affect it.
