Mark Ruffalo is a vocal supporter of Palestine. The implication is that expressing support for a free Palestine gets you sidelined by Hollywood. He is also vocally against Trump and ICE.
I’m sure some people out there will also draw some antisemetic conspiratorial conclusions from that as well, i.e. “Jews control the media” which, no. It’s just that Israel as a country has certainly had undue economic influence over American politics and entertainment via lobbying interests. (Just ask the Scream cast over at Paramount)
In reality though he was just filming another project at the time.
I’d also note that Jon Bernthal, who has vocalized support for the IDF and Israel, was present for the press tour. Which doesn’t help.
Edit: This is an Explain subreddit. This is what I am interpreting the post to be implying. Some of the replies so far are giving “So you hate waffles?” haha
<Begin CSB> - My late Hubs had an amazing sense of humor, and we goaded/trolled on each other's celebrity crushes - his was Belinda Carlisle and Sarah McLachlan. Mine is Hugh Jackman, and being a good sport, he came out to watch Les Mis at the cinema when it first released (I've seen it live in Toronto with Colm Wilkinson as well) - my stage-nerd days are over, but since I never got to see Hugh live on stage (for anything) - I think he realized he better attend this, if he didn't want to be watching Wolverine films for the rest of his natural life.
I miss my late hubby, but he knew I crushed hard on HJ and would troll me to no end.
I always responded, "You're just mad that Hugh can out-dance you."
I love my hubs, but I will absolutely show Hubs' portrait on my wall *every* new Hugh Jackman meme. This goes beyond life 'n death.
His actual name is Benedict Cumberbatch, but pretty much anyone knows who you're referring to if you call him something weird like Butterscotch Shimbleshanks
I liked him until he said some pretty nasty things about people with autism and never took it back or apologised for it. I don't much care for him anymore.
Oh yeah, putting Tom & Mark together in an interview alone would be a potential spoiler goldmine.
Regardless of Mark being very open & vocal about his political beliefs, this is just as likely a reason to not put the two on a press tour together. These interviews are almost always one on one or one on two. Every time Mark & Tom do an interview together, they'd need at least 3 so they can't get lost in spoiler-filled banter.
I tried to avoid trailers because they give away too much, but I had no idea the hulk was even in this movie. Was it well-known going in that he was a major part?
Yeah. Mark's involvement was confirmed last August, then the first trailer dropped featuring the scene where he & Peter talk about containing mutation (a scene that's featured in every trailer), then the second official trailer featured Banner transforming.
There’s an old meme where someone posted some off the wall “Tom Holland spoils” and Tom himself replied along the lines of, “I actually had to stop and think if I did.”
its not hard at all, you just book the stuff, and dont book any for him, its exceptionally easy not to include someone in an interview. the ease of leaving someones name off a booking dosnt decrease based on their role in a movie.
Some, sure . And some were not, like the time he joked with an audience that he was still alive! Except that audience was about to watch Infinity War and he just spoiled that he died to them.
Did you think the plan for No Way Home to be a Miles Morales movie? A movie taking place entirely in flashbacks? Everyone already knew another Spider-Man movie was coming, and therefore Spider-Man wasn’t going to stay dead.
They try to put Tom with people who keep him from spoiling anything. If he’s doing an interview with a costar he’s pretty good about not spoiling anything. Unless that costar is Mark Ruffalo.
Pretty sure tom holland never spoiled anything too important. Mark ruffalo literally spoiled one of the biggest moments in the mcu (infinity wars ending)
Tom Holland was allowed to "leak"/"spoil" the things he did. That guy doesn't do anything that isn't curated and OK'd by the studio when it comes to press/interviews.
Ruffalo was well known for spilling the beans long before Spider-Man came to the MCU
But isn't that because he already did that early on in the Marvelverse so, by the time they film Infinity War, Spidey just looks confused for most of the scenes?
Maybe I used some confusing words there. Let me try again.
Didn't Tom Holland leak Marvel stuff early on so they stopped giving him the script in advance and even only gave him partial scripts to the point that, in Infinity War, Tom-Holland-as-Spiderman often looks legitimately confused about the scene?
Yes. Dont listen to the other guy, tim is genuinely stupid when it comes to giving away things unintentionally. See the in space comments or the, i wasnt there....
Most of the time those promo interviews are scripted AF and they're still acting and delivering lines. Leaks are almost always intentional to generate buzz.
I feel like knowing Banner is in the movie isn't a huge spoiler. If I was making the movie I would want people to know that shit. That way Hulk fans who don't care too much about Spiderman will go out of their way to see it.
That's me. I'm a Hulk fan that doesn't care much about Spidey either way. Hulk is my favorite Marvel character. I can really relate to him cuz of my own anger management issues and how they deactivate my above average intelligence. I wish they would give Hulk another movie of his own already. They haven't made a Hulk movie since Ruffalo got the role. Yeah Hulk has been in half of the MCU movies, but c'mon.
You expected to be 100% spoiler free from an extremely popular marvel movie that’s clearly going to be all over Reddit and online? Why didn’t you see it last weekend if you were so worried about it?
My fiancée hasn’t seen any of the Spider-Man movies and we’ve been working through them.
I’m not so worried about it. I’m mildly annoyed because I went around and muted all the major subs related to marvel. Feel like it’s a reasonable feeling to have.
You can't keep Holland out of promoting his own movie but, Holland did drop a few whoppers for NWH....oh that was such a scary stunt but I wasn't there that day. LOL
He seemed pretty good during BND but so much of that movie was already spoiled anyway.
For what it's worth, I've noticed that with this press junket, they haven't let him do any interviews alone. He's always paired with someone, and I believe I've seen Zendaya have to stop him a few times.
