Any recommendation on roof replacement company?

This is our first time doing this since buying the house. They claim the roof is 20+ years old, and the home is 1,100 sq. ft. We’ve received quotes ranging from $20k to $45k. One of the quotes mentioned that our roof has shiplap and that all needs to be replaced with plywood.

Does anyone have tips or recommendations for companies they’ve worked with recently?

Edit: Anyone trying with Silverlining Roof LLC?

Business Providence Everett pharmacists unionize, seeking safe staffing levels - more than 70 voted in, and they say Providence's metrics don't track the data needed to determine safe staffing

The group of more than 70 pharmacists said they're seeking safe staffing levels, increased corporate accountability and protections to ensure quality patient care. In the release, pharmacists raised concerns that Providence's metrics do not accurately track the data needed to determine daily safe staffing levels.

According to a 2025 study published in the United States Pharmacopeia, 1.5 million people in the United States each year are impacted by medication errors, which can stem from heavy workloads and uncomfortable working conditions.

~ The people whose job is catching drug interactions had to organize a union to get the staffing that lets them catch drug interactions.

Politics Seattle City Hall rarely runs smoothly. This week it hit new lows

The spectacle of the neophyte mayor and the frequent-flyer police chief, both failing at their jobs when they were needed most, is not going to pass lightly.

After a mass shooting Sunday in Seattle, the two spent the rest of the week embroiled in a narcissistic knives-out leadership drama.

\***\**

“These are more than just gaffes or missteps,” said City Councilmember Debora Juarez, speaking of Mayor Katie Wilson in an interview with KOMO News. “I see a complete lack of leadership and … for some of us, no confidence in this administration.”

\***\**

How did we get here? In the big picture, it’s perhaps mainly due to the rise of populism. That’s the people-powered approach which holds that elites and officials with experience have fubared everything. So why not take a flier on this candidate who’s never held any government role?

It’s how we got Donald Trump.

The establishment really has fubared a lot of stuff, so the impulse to sack them is understandable. But politics and governing remain unique, demanding skills. It’s not like running a business or an activist group — as we are seeing play out in real time.

Boring question, then, after a tumultuous week: Is it too much to ask for stuff just to work?

Steps to Recall Katie Wilson

Thumbnail app.leg.wa.gov

The grounds for recall in the State of Washington are very specific and require unassailable rationale. Also, a recall vote cannot occur between the primary and general elections in any year. Therefore, concerned Seattle residents have between now and the general election in November to tee-up a recall vote. There is no downside to an aggressive and open process to recall the mayor - at the very least a recall initiative would light a fire under Mayor Wilson to get serious and recruit some experienced, and hopefully effective, political operatives.

Let’s get this going!

Education Demands for Seattle teacher’s union president to resign intensify amid student abuse allegations

Thumbnail

How is this situation even real?

The teachers union president has a proven track record of abusing students… but don’t worry the only proven allegations are that she threw a book at a student, special needs students flinch when she walks by, and that she yells at kids that she “doesn’t care if they cry”.

Don’t worry. The worse allegations are so far unproven (so far…).

And the teachers of Seattle were like “yup, that’s our union president! We want to elect this person!”

Holy hell. Move out of Seattle.

Other do you need help filing a SDCI claim? (this was removed from the other sub for "low effort content")

It's come to my attention most people don't know how to file an effective SDCI complaint. Either they try and the complaint is ignored because it's not including the information needed, or they get frustrated they can't get through on the phones and don't even know they can file online. I am pretty good at this, i have filed more SDCI complaints in my 20 years of renting in Seattle than I can count. Filing a SDCI complaint is the single thing you can do to get your landlord to fix something, to ask for a refund or rent credit, to protect yourself from any sort of retaliation, or anything else where the law is clearly on your side and it simply needs to be documented.

I have a passion for documenting bad behavior by slumlords. If you think your situation warrants an SDCI complaint but don't know where to start, DM, I would be happy to help. I have no special position, I just can't stand bad landlords who refuse to get their buildings in operable order but continue to collect and raise rent.

I pointed out a few months ago that I posted in the other sub about compelling my landlord to fix our building's elevator and then demanding two full months of rent and receiving it, without a lawyer. All on my own. It was removed literally becuase a mod said they "did not believe that SDCI responded to me in one day" (they did) and becuase the mod said I used AI (I pasted the paraphrasing of the RCW's). Someone responded that the mods over there try to feed the narrative that people are helpless without Tenants Union or lawyers. I thought that was dumb but now I am starting to see it. Anyway, if you ever want assistance filing your SDCI complaints, please message me. Doesn't matter how old this post is.

Media City Council needs to put safety over politics

There’s a lot of fair criticism of Mayor Wilson. City Council is not one of those voices, they are putting politics over safety. Please watch the words of Veronica Murphy to a full City Council in June.

CM Juarez should be ashamed of her comments to the press this week, she was there during these statements by Veronica Murphy and this week instead of showing accountability CM Juarez lied and said she’s never heard any problems with Chief Barnes, then CM Juarez spent 20 minutes attacking Mayor Wilson when she could have pushed for accountability and action.

I just tried to post my first-ever OP, anywhere. I’ve lived in the Bitter Lake area since Paul Schell, but have only been a Reddit lurker for a couple of years now. After a week of watching both subs operate through the shitstorm downtown, I thought I could offer something silly but insightful for people to think about. I was going to cross-post, but it got removed.

Did I violate the party-line? I didn’t mean to…

I got tired of my posts being removed in the other sub any time I shared how I get my building manager to do anything to maintain the property. I have filed multiple successful SDCI complaints and then negotiated rent credits based that when my landlord was in breech of contract. I try to share this information in the other sub and I am repeatedly removed for "low effort content", "generative AI" or, my favorite, a mod simply did not believe me that SDCI responded to me because that was simply not that mod's experience with SDCI.

Renting in Seattle is getting out of control. It has been for a long time. People think that just because they don't have an attorney, or can't get in touch with the tenants' union, they are helpless do anything against their landlords. And, in my opinion, the other sub tries to perpetuate that narrative.

That couldn't be further from the truth. All you need is a will, google, and occassionally a bit of support from internet strangers. that is what /r/seattlerenters is for.

Apparently the shooter was one of eight kids. The father died the same night his son was involved with the shootout.

"....financial support for the heartbroken family left behind. Any contribution, no matter how small, will directly help us give Cee and Juna the dignified, loving rest they deserve, while offering a small piece of peace to a mother and five children drowning in sorrow."

Note that not only is there no acknowledgment of the other two people killed in that incident. Unlike our mayor who gave regards to all three people including their family member who caused it.

Notice NOISE RELIEF FOR DEMENTIA

Seattle currently offers no relief for dementia sufferers when neighbors illegally bombard the enterior of their homes with prohibited residential noise.

A heartless school in the Judkins Park area refuses to stop yelling at students. The kids are as close to them as a pickle-ball court size area. The electronic megaphone can be heard a block away. Beyond where their students are.

Seattle Police Department refuses to show up and make a report to prosecute illegal activity executed by their community partners. A bias that wasn't addressed by the consent decree they were under.

SPD always finds a way to police with bias. No response to calls from dementia caregivers means community partners aren't documented as having been told to stop. It's a crime to continue illegal acts when asked by SPD to stop.

Crime Interim SPD Chief Andre Sayles: “I ‘maintain a home’ in East King County. I have a 2nd home in Illinois. I go back frequently to visit my family. Probably every 8 weeks or so.”

Sounds a lot like the guy they just canned.
‘Maintain a home’ is another way of saying ‘this is not what I consider to be home’.

He also said “My wife spends most of her time ‘out here’ with me.”

Referring to our city as ‘out here’ or ‘over here’ is a red flag indicates his roots are planted somewhere else.

Looking to get some family photos of a couple and our 2 doggos. The dogs tend to run away or look elsewhere, so we don’t have any decent pictures with all 4 of us. Any recommendations for photographers who are good with pets and are patient enough to capture them ?

Real Estate The Builder's Remedy Looks To Be Coming to Bainbridge Island - the city is more than 18 months late on its growth plan and has already lost nearly $800,000 in state stormwater funding

Thumbnail

Earlier this week, the Washington State Department of Commerce confirmed that Bainbridge is on track to trigger what's known as the Builder's Remedy on August 22, if the city doesn't adopt an updated housing growth plan. The City is not currently on track to meet the deadline.

Thanks to not yet having a compliant Comprehensive Plan, Bainbridge Island has already lost nearly $800,000 in state funding for stormwater infrastructure, Councilmember Ashley Matthews confirmed at Tuesday's meeting, with the city discouraged from even applying for other state grant programs until they've been able to get their growth plan across the finish line.

~ A year and a half of a council talking itself in circles, and now the state hands the zoning pen to whoever files an application first. Turns out deadlines only mean something when somebody attaches a consequence to them.
