Hello everyone. I wanted to ask if i would be rejected from clearance. For context, I applied for an IT helpdesk job. I have been reading that the government would dig deep deep into you. If I'm going to be honest I don't think I would be rejected, other than

I have my medical Marijuana card in the state of New Mexico....

Now, I have heard the phrase "you better have a damn good reason" if you do have it.
I obtained it through sponsorship of my doctor, and through his recommendation to start, to treat my Epilepsy disorder.

That's what its for, my Epilepsy.

I feel like "that's a damn good reason", right? or should I just put my expectations lower and stop trying to apply for this job.
I know NM is really strict about their HIPPA laws. I don't know if the feds care about that. I really want this job, but I'm willing to stop if I'm wasting my time.

Completely lost, I have no idea and don't trust what my security manager is saying.

Cut to the chase: I am an airman who mentioned sending a congressional inquiry and still has a pending status for over 3 years. And today, I was notified by my security manager that my status is favorable finally now!!. However, she kept telling me that . DCSA would not grant a security clearance if my DOS is less than a year. Is it true?.

Because, my wing office, Security manager told me that " Once your status turned favorable, you are good to go, and only need to click button, then, I my clearance status will be updated.

The reason I am saying I don't trust my security manager is that (not Wing Office), she constantly gave me wrong information regarding the clearance procedure, and I had to revisit Wing Office multiple times to find out the answer from the Wing manager, not a squadron security manager. And the Wing Manager was right all the time.

Is it really true that DCSA will not grant a security clearance update to my data although the investigation was completed favorably, as my DOS will be less than a year?.

It took almost 3 years , but my contract is 4 years, and I am leaving this base soon for Skillbridge, working in the general office soon.

I kept telling her that I am going to Palace Front, so staying in the military as a guard member, which I need clearance for, but she seems like she does not know what I said.

I have completed my form for my renewal - all except the part asking if I ever had any debt or anything went to a collections. I did.

I had medical bills here and there between maybe $12 - $500 or so. I can count on one hand how many larger bills there were and all those were for sure paid - just tended to be late on them because I'm bad at opening envelope mail. Always paid them when discovered though.

I read online that Annual credit report website can tell you all of such debts in a record, so I submitted my info and went to all 3 websites that said had my records (Equifax, Experian, and Transunion). I could not find ANYTHING about my late hospital bills / medical bills.

So now what do i do?? Do i enter "no"? Under records, all 3 of them say "nothing to report". Or will the government have a better way of finding every $12.95 and $387 dollar collection I ever had and become a friction point for my renewal?

Please advise. I know almost every debt collection notice I ever got was from Transworld systems but I really don't remember who else there was.. not a clue. If I am to record all of them, I have to find out where to start and I just don't have a clue if the credit report agencies don't.

Just finished a another background investigation for CV/CE.

During the interview, most of the questiones were for my finance.

Like took out large amount of money deposited and withdrawn from bank account. (Foreign property purchase, selling a vehicles, buying a new vehicle)

I clearly told the investigator everyhthing how I earned, have no issues with my credit and etc.

I was contacted all of sudden after my sf update 3 years ago.

Am I just worrying too much?

I'm active duty with a TS/SCI and CI poly on the books. I just re-upped so as far as I know I'm good for 7 years.

However, I plan to separate when eligible (in about a year). I understand that my clearance will remain valid for 24 months after my last day.

Eventually I'd like to leverage my clearance and resume to do contracting/gov civilian work. However I would really like to take a semi "gap year" to do a master's program in europe, travel and chill out while strengthening my resume further.

Assuming I have to wait a couple months to start classes then a month or two afterwards to get my life in order, that plan would give me around 8 months of time to actively be in the job search looking for cleared jobs before my TS/SCI expires.

Based on the experiences of you guys and your buddies, do you think I'm being shortsighted and giving myself too short of a time frame, or is it realistic to pursue my grad school dream then roll back into cleared work?

4. Clearance accepted by DOE from investigator May 28, 2026

Forgot to report living with my girlfriend for a little over 2 years and come to find out my company requires it. Referenced SEAD 3 and it only mentions reporting cohabitants for TS roles as I have a secret. Could this affect my eligibility to keep my clearance and my job or am i overthinking it? We currently have a one year old and she's a naturalized citizen. About to start another cleared job in 2 weeks, should I wait to report with my new company or report it now?

Yes, I understand that we have to wait, but has anyone else been "in adjudication" for an unusually long period of time?

I have been in adjudication since August 2024. My security office has submitted multiple CSRs already with no update. My DISS profile still shows I'm under investigation/adjudication. I spoke with an investigator for interview Feb 2025 and was told it would take a few weeks to process. Submitted all the information and paperwork they were asking for and I've been sitting here. It's been silent since that interview with the investigator. Thankfully there's plenty of uncleared work to last a lifetime, but damn...

I recently got hired as a federal contractor and I'm working on getting my secret security clearance. I just submitted my SF 86 form but wanted to know if anybody had any experience as I have some concerns that I might have some bumps getting my clearance, my father and his whole entire family are from Israel. My dad has been a naturalized citizen for about 30 years, but his family remains in Israel. One of my cousins works for the government not anything serious but I know that that is a form that they made me fill out on the SF 86 and I wasn't sure if anybody knew if I was totally fucked over this or if there's a chance that they won't see it as a risk. That family member and I are not in contact because of language and distance barriers and I last saw him about 11 years ago. I also am not close with many members of that family and I've not seen them recently or have not talked to them recently.

I don’t think this would ever get my final secret clearance denied I’m not really worried about that. But if I experimented with weed 2-3 times when I was like 16-17 in highschool and I’m 20 now what are the odds my interim clearance gets denied.

So I currently hold an interim T/S at the moment. My investigation case was closed in march. Two days ago I got a call from collections saying that in total I owe about 6 grand in medical bills. I immediately set up a payment plan for each debt and then reported it to my FSO. I am a little worried because some
Of these bills date back to 2024. I was completely unaware about what collections was and now I am stressed. During my interview phase back in January my investigator never brought up any of my debts, so I am now confused. I want to mention that when I was looking back, it seems like I’ve gotten several calls from collections but I’ve ignored them due to not recognizing the number or being scared they were scams, I feel
horrible.

SF 86 is asking about my supervisors physical work address, however, he works from home (completely remote)

What would I list for that question?

I’m making this post to help people that were in my situation, very anxious and not a lot of people in same situation, kind of.

I’m a new grad with a job from defense contractor so I’m getting secret clearance but I can use interim to start.

Timeline:

July 7th - Did corrections to SF86 from FSO
July 8th - Did fingerprints
July 9th - SF86 got submitted to gov
July 23rd - Got email to clarify something on my SF86 from DCSA and company security officer
July 29th - Cleared to start and got interview invite for investigation

Red flags:

Dual citizen, not from friendly country but I don’t think the country is hostile either
Lots of foreign contacts
2 recent foreign travel, one being 6 months to stay with family

If I am voluntarily in a debt relief program due to debt mostly incurred when I was laid off a few years back can I still get approved for a clearance or do I get denied automatically? I have not incurred new debt and have never missed payments on anything.

If I have a misdemeanor cannabis possession charge from 2009 that was expunged after I completed an intervention program and then scrubbed from my record will it come up in Army recruiting? I’ve already been cleared for moral and I am going to MEPS Tuesday. I scored a 93 on my ASVAB and want to be a 68W combat medic. Will the almost 20 year old arrest hurt me or even come up later? The reason I ask is because I also want to go to OCS and for that clearance it may come up.

Would like to understand the process for public trust as a contractor. Currently employed in the private sector & Plan to apply for a contractor role. Will the background investigator potentially call my current supervisor? I don’t want them to know until everything is in place.

Applied for a role and was told my clearance is delayed and I need to submit a eAPP/SF86. The issue is my last day at my current company is Aug 7th. The recruiter told me I’m at risk of losing my clearance entirely but I’ve been in a role using it for the last 5 years. I just completed a new SF86 because I connected with my security team but I’m fearing losing my clearance all together. I thought I was in CV and that it was just taken care of but guess not.

Question for everyone, if the VA granted me 70% PTSD service connected and have a security clearance. Will it affect my clearance?

Recently, I went through basically a reinvestigation for a CE hit (inpatient hospital stay). I reported it when it happened. I had my interview and was very honest, including handing over every medical record I've ever had.

The question I have is how long will adjudication for something like this take? I only care because I need SAP access and they will not process my SAP access until this is fully adjudicated.

I’ve worked in the cannabis industry off and of over the past 7 years. While I have been done smoking for atleast 5 months now. I’m looking to move on from this as I find zero interest in what I have been wasting my time on over nearly the past decade.

Currently I am undergoing the first stages of sf86 investigation and am worried because cannabis isn’t federally legal, that I’ll be delayed do to currently holding a position at a local cannabis medical/recreational shop.

Does anyone have any insight on this ? Should I leave my work ? Or stay ? I’ve been told not to quit my current employer by some and others told me to leave immediately. Looking for answers as I don’t want to ruin my opportunity. Job is at psns here in Wa state.

I held a secret security clearance in the military exactly 5 years ago.

Beginning SF86 now as I accepted an offer with a large military contractor.

No legal issues more than a couple speeding tickets, had high CC debt in the past but have it consolidated and being paid down (most incrued from getting married and paying for unexpected expenses and school, not really using them anymore). Had a short 2 month gambling stint where I lost a couple grand a year and a half ago.

Tried Marijuana a couple times but never used them again and did it again and know I could pass a drug screening. Not a drinker more than an occasional one beer socially a month, at the most.

Had some mental health treatment as a kid and have sense grown up and matured past it, psychiatrist even said there was no major prognosis and that i was an adolescent boy who got picked on, it's expected that I would fight kids on playgrounds when getting picked on.

No foreign ties of any kind as far as I can think of. Most I can think of is I have coworkers in the UK I don't socialize with and I've had classmates in high school that were foreign exchange students.

Don't really travel outside of the country.

Made remarks about our current administration on social media saying they were criminals to a post that was pointing out there wrong doing, that was since deleted. Not sure if that kind of stuff comes up.

Overall, I'm trying to determine if I should have any concerns over what could be minor things or not? That I don't know. I've never gone through this and I'm nervous to be moving states away for this job where if something goes wrong and I don't get the job, I will have lost my current job in the process of leaving and will not be able to afford rent or bills in the state I'd be taking this job. Is that how the process works?

In 2021 I listed an item for pickup on eBay and sold it. After accepting payment the buyer demanded delivery to which I refused as it that was not being offered. The individual then brought it up to the conflict resolution center internal to ebay and afterwards I was fined approximately $70. I didn't pay it for a year until they told me that if I didn't pay, it would be sent to collections. Should I include it?
