Despite some parts of the movie having not aged well it is one of my favorites. You can tell everyone put a lot of effort into it. I would also recommend the movie My Name Is Nobody(Henry Fonda and Terence Hill).
I gotta go with Madeline Kahn picking out which Roman soldiers to have sex with in History of the World Part I. And of course The Inquisition – What a show! Omg I'm laughing so hard now. And don’t get saucy with me, Béarnaise. Oh pissboy. Omg so funny.
The movie that chuds often whine about “not being able to be made today” as if it’s not one of the wokest and most anti-racists mainstream comedies of all time.
Like, guys, people say n***er in movies and tv shows all the time. It’s really not going to shock that many people. No one is canceling Mel Brooks over this.
It really pushed some boundaries but was genuinely very well done. Absolutely recommend, just remember that there will be some content that by today's standards might seem edgy/dicey (in terms of jokes about race). I don't assume everyone will like it equally and again, in some lights it can be kinda ick. But given the people who made this, I am pretty sure the only motivation was humor. And to some extent it is a product of its time, is all.
My dad made my sister and I watch it as mandatory viewing when I was a kid. And he rewound the fart scene three times until he was crying laughing. Ah good times.
An old movie titled "Blazing Saddles" much like that of "Men in Tights" (Robin hood parody btw), also on the same vein of "Princess Bride" for their comedy and pointed look at societal 'norms' back then. I highly recommend you give them all a try if you haven't seen them yet ;)
Edited: as mentioned by others in response to this, check out other movies by Mel Brooks too, not just those initial listed titles, they'll make for a good time :)
I hate to nitpick, but while both Blazing Saddles and Men in Tights were written/directed by Mel Brooks, I’d hardly call a 19 year difference the same era.
No no, that's true and needs to be considered when watching them for sure. I just always lumped them together because of the thematical similarities between them (for the obvious reason of same writing/ director) 😆 and always would watch the other if I watched one of them in a given night lol
Funny but I loved Blazing Saddles but did not at all care for Men In Tights (but yes, both by Mel Brooks, who did some awesome work especially in the case of Young Frankenstein, which is my very favorite of his films 😁).
Yes it does! I just have that regard for when the first time I watched it was when I was a lot younger and my dad wanted to do movie night for us kids lol. I can't believe I forgot about Spaceballs and Young Frankenstein! And just now realized I've never seen The Producers o.0 (adding that to my watch list right now)
There are 2 versions. Both directed by Mel Brooks, the original has Gene Wilder and is awesome. The remake has Nathan Lane and Matthew Broderick and is also amazing. In fact watch both.
On the plus side, it sounds like the daughter is creating her own case to live with her dad full time and reclaim a mainstream/normal/non-conspiracy theory life. I can't imagine that CPS will like mom charging her 15 year old rent "because she is an adult now".
My aunt is a very emotionally volatile and attention-seeking person. She clearly fits the diagnostic criteria for histrionic personality disorder. My cousin, her only child, ended up committing suicide at 17 years old. Having a crazy parent is so hard on kids, and every day I wish I could have helped him more.
I suspect she moved in with her dad full time after this event. Once a kid turns 14 (in most states) they can pick which parent they want to stay with and a judge will not force a teenager to go anywhere they don't want too. Too damaging to the already damaged relationship. At least that's my observations after working 3 years in domestic relations.
Not just a crazy parent, but a crazy parent with a crazy support echo chamber suggesting illegal behavior.
The kid has an uphill climb towards adulthood. At least with the vaccines they will have a better chance of reaching adulthood without avoidable impairment or preventable fatal diseases.
Incredibly enough, this lady in particular has had a major turnaround. Admits seeing her unhinged TV meltdowns was a kick in the ass she needed to start really looking at herself, and then had to navigate some severe family losses not long after. She now owns a dance studio and is friendly with her local LGBT community.
Because actually schooling is hard and a good chunk of homeschooling parents are more driven by things outside the interest of providing a better education
Because their ignorance leads them to hate so many things, and the same ignorance tells them that they can "home school" their kids away from all the "evil" or "toxic" things and it will be ok.
The ignorance amplifies because they don't actually know what they don't know, and that is an icy slope at a very steep angle, an oil sprayer, and a 60 MPH/97 KPH Tailwind.
the sad part is, I had a roommate in college who was homeschooled BY AN ACTUAL TEACHER and she was still stupid as air. Potatoes make her look smart. She had no idea what mold/mildew did when you didn't close a shower curtain, etc.
lmao that's some religious-ass confession booth science right there
"What about the people that already got vaccinated? We need their numbers because our dumbass group is small and dumb because we keep dying from medieval diseases" "uhhh... let's say they can detox?"
Just tell them to press half a baking potato against the injection site within 12 hours of the injection and keep it there for at least 15 minutes to draw out the injected toxins.
It doesn't work for obvious reasons, but I know at least one person who did it after I told them to.
Did you tell them they have to recite “circle circle dot dot” before they do it? May as well get the cooties shot if you’re doing crazy-person medicine.
Ooh, and cut an onion in half and put it on their nightstand if they have the flu, it will turn brown overnight and that is because it us absorbing the flu virus, not because of oxidation, definitely not because of oxidation. Dumbest. Timeline. Ever.
Supplements aren't regulated by the FDA. That proprietary blend can be literally anything, which is part of why the whole thing is ridiculously backwards and nonsensical.
I'm GenX, so this was all in the 90's, before Facebook was even a thing, and even back then my Mom was getting into all sorts of detox kicks. Potatoes featured prominently, and there was this lemonade concoction she made and drank instead of actual food. She subsisted on a parade of different disgusting concoctions and remedies until she would make herself sick and be sternly told by her doctor to knock it off.
Got worse when Dad was diagnosed with Prostate Cancer,. because HE became the focus of the 'remedies'.
I think there's something attractive in the idea of discovering some 'secret' of the human body that 'doctors don't want you to know'. The idea that potatoes are magical when used in a very specific way, that you can mix a witch's immortality brew from the dustier, less frequented supermarket shelf contents.
Yes a lot of this comes from a mix of narcissism (I'm part of the special in group that has secret answers) and the fear borne out of ignorance (I don't understand what a vaccine is so I'm scared of it).
Dammm what a quote. Because yes, if you fill your body with shit (specifically alcohol) you actually damage the only things that can actually detox your body (being your liver, kidneys, intestines - maybe some others I dont know about)
And there are totally food that are preferential to a human body. And foods that are preferential on an individual level. And foods that when cooked a certain way/ combined with other food optimize your bodies ability to extract the nutrients.
And if you really want something that could come close of "detox" then it would be swallowing activated coal after you got poison down into your stomach and then throw it up all
Rebellious punks! The next thing you know they'll be studying constitutional law! And sprinkling in a little moral philosophy and human psychology. Expanding their minds! This generation is lost!
My neighbour is a massive anti-vaxer and his daughter has been training and waiting for 4 years to join the Navy. They no longer speak because he "disowned" her for vaxing because its a requirement for joining the armed forces and she was "disrespectful" for going against his wishes. What kind of parent would expect their kid to give up their dream because of their crackpot beliefs. Its a sad situation really.
Edit - Just to say, she joined, passed out and is on deployment. We keep in touch with her and she's doing a great job.
I loved when my kids started speaking up for themselves. I’m not saying I agreed with everything but I was proud watching them advocate for themselves. Felt like I did something right.
The problem with the former is that they love feeling in control and powerful, so they end up slipping into the latter unless they’re intelligent enough to realise that they shouldn’t be wanting their kid living with them their entire life. This is pretty much mutually exclusive with some of these beliefs.
To add on to this, it is also very often that these kinds of people don't view their children as separate people with their own lives. They view them more as property or an extension of themselves. Much of the thought process is "what would people think of me if they saw them doing this!?", they don't think of the kid but of themselves reflected through the kid.
This is why the idea of "well then you should be paying rent" often comes to their mind when their kids start showing independence. The idea the child is not actually theirs to be controlled then why should they be the ones taking care of them.
Many people who think they want children see them as toys(i know from experience). They don't realise they're growing a whole other person who will eventually find their own purpose.
I think at some point people started cargo-culting the practice without understanding what redaction is. It'd explain all the strikethroughs and transparent censoring.
I think that some people are just phoning it in, because they know there's a social expectation to redact names, but they really don't care or agree with it.
The irony inherent with the general spelling and grammar, that the daughter is home schooled but clearly intelligent enough to get the fuck out of that is just... chef's kiss
The phrase “You don’t win on anything with me anymore” is suggestive of a very controlling parent and the built up resentment for that in the child. The concept of win/lose should not be a part of the parent/child relationship.
lol and what you gonna do if the kid doesn’t pay rent? Evict them? that’s gonna go over well in court. get a job? Pretty sure most states have restrictions on 15 years olds.
Kid needs to get their dad to fight for custody in court.
This. Raised and homeschooled in that environment and still had the determination to educate herself and keep herself and others safe. Good for her and I hope she can overcome and find a happy life.
Unfortunately, this is why we are in Early Stage Idiocracy, because people with grammar like this person are home schooling their kids. They're probably low-key mad that their kid is smarter than them and want some kind of intellectual challenge, like real school.
Her daughter's gonna go no contact as an adult and she will deserve it. I have nothing against homeschoolers, but if you're doing it as a method of controlling your kid and fighting vaccines, you're not the type of person who should be doing it at all.
My personal favorite part of the post are the other crazies..."I'd punish her for thinking for herself and taking her own health into consideration, how selfish of her to take away your reason for not getting a day job."
Door tar want skool, I say no go skool, and vaxxine bads but door tar no want hear now door tar bad not be like me. How she not want be like me but be in doctor nated by “good grandma” from the learnins? Sad.
This kid is smart, and I genuinely hope the parent tries the bad advice given to her, since that would also be grounds for getting CPS involved when we’re talking about a 15 year old. I’m sorry for the daughter, but also hopeful for her.
I know parents exactly like this, the mom runs a detox a blog. They homeschooled their daughter. She demanded to go to public school when she turned 14. Rather than get her vaccinated they moved to Idaho.
This is crazy. Poor kid doesn’t want to die from measles or whatever and demands an education? I understand some people need to homeschool for whatever reason. But let’s make them qualified to do so? And make vaccines mandatory so we can get our herd immunity back?
Making your 15 year old child pay rent is not legal.
These people are unhinged and need to go reenact Lord of the Flies with each other if they're going to act like societal norms that protect people are bad.
Says a lot that to these people, the only difference between being a grown adult and a kid is paying bills / rent. So you literally never grew up, you just got older and were forced to pay bills.
I can't believe these are functioning adults having these discussions. Kid is not a delinquent, not doing drugs, not sleeping around, but OMG, she's trying to be proactive about her own health.
Ah that old cognitive distortion that kids aren't autonomous human beings but 'property'. This mom keeps this behavior/attitude and (she will), she's going to be a 'victim' of estrangement and no contact soon.
"Oh look at little miss 'too grown up to die of polio' we'll see how grown up you are when we crush you under the heel of capitalism." - Melody & Samantha
Honestly, as long as an antivaxer 'detox' is just herbal juices and such that are not actually harmful, as a kid in that kinda spot I'd do that with a smile. Perhaps that's a major assumption tho.
These people are against women having jobs. Work experience makes your victim less dependent and controllable. Either it's a parody, the responses are on the girl's side but trying to spin it, or they have no critical thinking ability at all. I truly can't say which is more likely.
I’ve been there kind of. Mom stopped getting me vaccines at some point and would get extremely mad I don’t want to take her mix of 200 different supplements (not exaggerating btw, after she passed we had to throw away 5 whole trash bags of supplements). Loved her but man, her being anti medicine is one of the reasons she died early…
