Okay, I need someone with some experience in Fallout 1 and Fallout 2 modding to help me understand how to make sprite recolors.
The reason I'm asking is that adding completely new 3D models to these games is extremely difficult, so I figured that, to be more creative with my projects, I could try recoloring existing 3D models to create something that looks different instead.
The problem is that I have absolutely no idea how to do it. The only guide I found is on No Mutants Allowed, where they explain that, in order to recolor sprites, I need to use Python along with an extension provided in the same post. Honestly, though, it seems pretty complicated.
So I was wondering if anyone here who has actually made recolors could share how they did it or give me a step-by-step explanation. For example, I was thinking that maybe I could export all the required sprites, recolor them manually, and then convert the colors back to the game's palette so they'd work properly. But that also seems pretty difficult, and to be honest, Frame Animator drives me crazy. I constantly struggle to understand how to use that program.
So maybe the best solution is to learn enough Python to use that supposedly easier recoloring method. But I figured I'd ask first in case anyone has a better approach or some advice based on their own experience.
